How would you like to wake up to this view every morning?
After a longer then expected drive up here, I finally made it to Amelia Island right before dinner last night. I was famished and ready for anything. My small snack of a serving of Pumpkin Spice Trail Mix at the start of my journey just did not hold me over at all.
I met up with my Dad, various Uncles, Aunts and Cousins first thing for a meal out on the town. We took a bus from the hotel to a little hole in the wall seafood place called Marina Seafood Restaurant (I know such an original name..lol) It was a cute place where our party of 14 took up half of the tables in the place. I have a very rowdy, amusing family so we like to think we ran everyone out of the place when we realized we were the only ones in there half way through our meal.
SInce I was on a mini vacation and I just drove a good 3 hours I decided it was the perfect occasion to enjoy a Sam Adams.
I started with a Tossed Salad that I topped with a little bit of Oil & Vinegar.
For my main course I ordered the Broiled FIsh Fillet with New Potatoes and Hushpuppies.
When I ordered the fillet it did not even occur to me to ask for no butter on the fish and after one bite I was regretting it. All I tasted was butter as it masked any fishy flavors I set out to enjoy. I was a little bummed at this fact so I only ate about half of the fish and everything else you see on the plate. Next time I ordered broiled fish i will need to remember to say not butter.
I stole a couple of my Dad’s french fries as well. Everyone made sure I took a pictures for the blog. 🙂
After dinner we headed back to the hotel lobby for some drinks and socializing. I ordered a Cabernet.
The glass was filled a little to high for me. I drank half of the glass before I began to fall asleep on the chair and decided to call it a night.
This morning I awoke to the beautiful sunrise pictured above and decided to take a run around the Island. On my way out I spoke with the guy at the valet stand who gave me a map with a 7 mile run highlighted on it. The map guided me for the first 1/2 of mile or so before I did not recognize any of my surroundings and the map began to look like a foreign language. I circled back between two separate paths before I gave up on the route the valet had laid out on me and decided to create my own. Apparently I am just really bad at reading trail maps… lol
I did end up running around a golf course that took me on the beach and back to the hotel. I ran for a good mile along the beach just enjoying all of the beauty that was surrounding me. It was amazing and so peaceful! I was the only one on the beach for miles and miles it felt like! The run in the sand was also a killer work out. My legs worked as they dug in and out of the crusty sand. I also could feel the run in my abs. Is it possible the beach run made my abs work that much harder?
After about an hour I guesstimate I completed a total of 5 miles this morning before heading back to the room. There was still plenty of time for breakfast, so my Dad and I decided to talk along the beach.
It was really too beautiful for words outside. Too bad it was freezing!
We met up for breakfast at the Hotel buffet. At this point I was STARVING! I immediately grabbed a piece of Rye Bread to gnaw on while I decided what else I wanted to eat.
I ended up utilizing the omelet station and got an egg white omelet with everything but the bacon bits.
In the omelet there was sausage, ham, spinach, green peppers (ewwww.. did not mean to get this), onion & Tomato. I asked for a small spoonful of cheddar cheese in the middle.
I was very happy with the selection of fruit the breakfast buffet had to offer. I piled a bowl up with some granola on top.
I had Watermelon, Pineapple, Blueberries, & Strawberries.
The fruit was so good I had to go back for a second bowl! I also had a piece of rye bread with Orange marmalade.
My Aunt offered me a piece of her French Toast.
I dipped the french toast in the mini berry smoothie she had along it.
It was just like blueberry french toast. Yum!
After breakfast I headed out with my Aunt and cousins to a local Fort that my Cousin’s son had a great time exploring. He is a typical 9 year old, full of energy and enthusiasm. He informed me of all the ways the ‘snipers’ could kill people walking around the fort..lol… as much as I tried to inform him he did not seem to understand that there were no snipers in the 1800s.. lol… oh well.
Now I’m off to eat lunch and head back to O-Town. Later Gators!
