I Live in Florida…

by Meghann on December 12, 2008

…. and now matter how cold it is I will continue to wear Flip Flops… 🙂

That is one of my favorite groups on Facebook. I got some slack today for wearing flip flops to work. Not a slap on the wrist or anything, just some musings from a few co-workers who found it amusing my feet were uncovered in this chilling weather we’re having.

To be honest I’m used to it. You’re talking to the girl who has worn flip flops hiking in the woods in New York, to the Guinness Factory in Dublin in the middle of March, in the snow of the Colorado mountains and basically anywhere and everywhere my feet will take me. What can I say? My feet are Does anyone else live solely for their flip flops? Where are my fellow Floridian and California girls to back me up? 🙂

Now that’s you’ve seen my feet. (Sorry about that by the way!) I guess you’re ready to see my food.

I have plans tonight to meet up with my Dad in Amelia Island to keep him company on his work retreat so I ate lunch at work in order to leave an hour earlier.

Packed lunches may not be always fun, but they are so easy to keep healthy. Mine was simple and delish.

I had a Hummus, Cheese, Tomato, Alfalfa Sprout, & Banana Pepper Sandwich on twp pieces of Whole Wheat Toast.

I toasted the bread while I was making lunch this morning. Though the bread is usually soft by lunch time, I swear that toasted taste is still there to be enjoyed.

I also had some green beans I steamed in the office microwave.

I just added some water to the plastic container and microwaved them for a minute.

And lastly this yummy Apple.

I broke into my lunch box around midmorning for a Pistachio-Pear-Ginger Blondie.

Now I just have until 2:30 until I can hit the road. My Dad’s company is actually a family business so any work outings really feel more like family get togethers. I’ll only be there for the night and the first part of tomorrow, but it should be a good time. :)

I live in the cold northeast and my cousin ALWAYS wears flip flops! She went to school in NH and wore them all the time. Her rainbow sandals were glued to her feet.

Love the lunch box!

Haha..I’m a Florida girl and LOVE my flip-flops too. It’s the opposite around here…we get laughed at for wearing warm, whole, WINTER shoes!!!

3 Lindsey (Mrs. LC) December 12, 2008 at 12:50 pm

backing you up on the flip flops. 🙂 plus I think I’m lazy too…it’s SO much easier to just slip on a pair of flip flops as you’re heading out the door instead of taking the time to put on socks, sneakers, lace them up, etc.

Have fun at Amelia Island!

You have cute feet. 🙂
So you like hummus and cheese together? It sounds weird but it seems like lotsa people love it!
I forgive you for not freaking out over Seinfeld. I never got into Friends, so I guess we’re equal!

Oh I love Amelia Island! My family and I took a vacation there once years and years ago. Have fun!

6 Amy December 12, 2008 at 12:55 pm

I like wearing sandals year round, but unfortunately, the cold weather up here doesn’t really permit! Glad you do though!!

Love the simple packed lunch, its always fun to bring along stuff & feel like you’re back in school 😀

Have fun with your papa!!

7 Ryan December 12, 2008 at 12:59 pm

YES…flip-flops all year long for me too! Have fun at Amelia Island!

When I was in HS I wore flip flops once when there was snow on the ground (I think it was in March maybe?)!

That sammy looks delish!! Have fun with your dad!

11 Rachel Ann December 12, 2008 at 1:49 pm

We have the same lunchbox! If you love Vera, is having a huge sale right now.

Also, your sandwich looks delicious! I love simple lunches.

12 caitlin December 12, 2008 at 1:50 pm

hahahah you know, its funny. when i moved to PA, it was so hard for me to transition to closed-toed shoes, and everytime i look at my feet in winter (sandles are NOT an option in winter in pittsburgh) i would think my feet looked so caged in.

13 Kaye December 12, 2008 at 1:54 pm

Meghann, I have TOTALLY got your back on this!

I’m from the LA area, and I barely own shoes!
We had a surprise cold front after the fires died off this year, and my bf is dying that I don’t have real shoes.

I have:
-TONS of sandals and flip flops
-TONS, and TONS of cute high heels
-2 pairs of boots.

That’s it for me!!!

You are so cute! I found you through seebriderun, and I love your musings!

Woooo shout out to the Rainbows!! I live for my flippity floppitys. Seriously about a week ago I came into work wit earmuffs, gloves, a winter jackey and… my rainbows! Hah my boss thinks I’m off my rocker…

15 Marissa December 12, 2008 at 2:11 pm

I am ALWAYS wearing flip flops too

16 Megan December 12, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Be safe and enjoy your time with dad! For some reason, I have never been a flip flop girl.

17 carolinebee December 12, 2008 at 2:30 pm

YEAA baby 😀 I have 3 purrs of rainbows- one is so worn through there is a HOLE in the SOLE on the heel part- my mom says they’re ghetto and dirty and gross, and i heart them! Rock those flip flops hah

18 VeggieGirl December 12, 2008 at 2:45 pm

No flip flops EVER for me – I’m always freezing, haha 🙂

Have a safe trip home!!

19 Sharon December 12, 2008 at 2:56 pm

Mmmm, that blondie looks yummy! Hope you have a great trip!

20 Mel December 12, 2008 at 3:18 pm

I used to wear flip flops all the time, even in the middle of a blizzard. Nowadays, I can’t do that anymore, as my feet are always like icicles! I wish I could, I hate wearing shoes!

21 Katlyn December 12, 2008 at 4:31 pm

I LOVE flip flops!!! I go to Arizona State and I basically live in shorts and flip flops and I love it! But I had a friend back in my hometown of Green Bay, WI who ALWAYS wore flip flops even when there was 10 inches of snow on the ground!! Oh and I love the sun tattoo! so funny because I’m getting a sun tattoo on my foot too! my friend drew it for me and I can’t wait to get it!!!

22 strongandhealthy December 12, 2008 at 4:35 pm

You’re so lucky you can wear flip flops now!

When you pack hummus in your sandwich, does it get the bread soggy? I would love to pack a veggie and hummus sammie, but I’m afraid it will be gross by lunch time. Do you have a secret for keeping it fresh?

23 Meghann December 13, 2008 at 9:58 am

S&H – I didn’t find it made my sammie sooggy at all. I toast the bread in the morning while I’m making my lunch and then wrap the sammie in a paper towel before putting it in the plastic baggie

24 Liz December 12, 2008 at 6:45 pm

Canadian girl here, just got in from -15 C weather and I am SO jealous of your flip flops!

25 Meghann December 12, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Am I seeing things, or is that a snowflake tattoo on your foot?? I love feet tattoos even though I don’t have one!

26 Meghann December 13, 2008 at 9:57 am

Its actually a snowflake. I may be a FLorida girl but I still love the snow 🙂

27 adrianna December 12, 2008 at 9:24 pm

not from FL or CALI, but i’m always in flip flops. basically if there isnt snow on the ground, my toesies are out for the world to see. so happy to see someone else shares my enthusiasm for the best footwear, ever!

28 Julz December 12, 2008 at 11:44 pm

Nice Rainbows, chickeedee 😉

29 Biz December 13, 2008 at 9:56 am

30 bobbi December 13, 2008 at 11:20 am

I HAVE THOSE too!!! Us SO CAL Girls love our rainbows! Oh and I am so with you on the tredmill, how do people do it!!! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

31 Bridget December 13, 2008 at 11:32 am

I am SO SO jealous of your wearing flip flops right now!!! I push my flip flop season as far as I can go, but I HATE being cold so yeah it doesnt last too too long. I have the same Rainbow flops though! 🙂

Also on your previous post, I really don’t know how I deal with the treadmill…I think it helps that my gym has personal TV’s at each cardio machine…I need to keep my mind occupied. ALthough as I was driving to the gym this morning and saw 2 people running outside (it’s 25 degrees mind you) in SHORTS I was greatful for the treadmill…I just could not run in this weather

32 Lindsay December 13, 2008 at 12:51 pm

i SO wish i could wear flip flops but in 30 degree weather its just not possible here in PA 🙁

love your vera bag!

33 eatingbender December 13, 2008 at 1:33 pm

I hope you had fun with your dad! Love the flip flops 🙂 I definitely wear them as long as possible but, being a Midwesterner, find they have the tendency to turn my feet blue once it’s starting snowing 😉

Also, I was catching up on your blog and wanted to say that I am totally with you on the treadmill. I seriously admire anyone who uses it on a regular basis!
