Hello from 30,000 ft in the air!

I’m on my way to Brooks HQ for our annual Brooks Run Happy Ambassador trip! (#sponsoredtravel) This my 7th year working with Brooks and it’s been a honor from day 1. This year’s theme is extra special as we’ll be cheering on the athletes at the Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle. I will be sure to post a full-report on the flight back.

Since I have a 5+ hour flight ahead of me, I thought I would check-in on the ole blog here. I can promise you, I don’t mean to go so long between updates, but I promise you that might life is pretty boring right now and there hasn’t been too much to report back on.

We’ve settled comfortably into our new routines with our new house. The new house is about 15 minutes north of our old house and 15 minutes farther from each of our offices. I mean, technically it’s 15 minutes farther, but since we can now avoid a large road with heavy congestion – and just take the expressway directly home – it kind of evens out. However, when we moved I decided to keep Annalynn in the daycare right by our old house which makes our new commutes interesting.

We moved Annalynn to her current daycare back in October and it was instant love from the start. I actually didn’t realize how displeased I was with her old facility until she started the new one – the difference in personal attention was night and day. Annalynn blossomed in her short tenure at the new school and I didn’t want to risk moving her to any of the daycares by our new house for fear of another terrible fit. So we kept her there and the additional time it adds to our commute is worth every minute.

With that in mind, the time we have in the morning is now even shorter. My mornings usually start at 4:45am with a quick run or strength workout in the driveway. I have to be done with my workout by 5:45am so I can quickly wash-off in the shower and make breakfast before waking Annalynn up at 6. We’ll finish breakfast around 6:15 and Derek will get Annalynn dressed and ready for school while I quickly throw clothes on, attempt to do something with my hair, and make lunch. If all goes according to plan, we’re usually out the door by 6:30 and doing drop-off around 7:00. My goal is to be in the office around 7:30. It’s a pretty crazy morning.

Thankfully, Derek was able to change his schedule so now he’s leaving the office at 4pm and is in charge of picking Annalynn up in the afternoon. It’s tag-team parenting at its’ finest.

Work has been going amazingly well. I transitioned into a new position back in January and have learned so much since taking on the new role. My work days are long, busy, and exhausting; but I can honestly say that I love the work I do and the team I work with. If half of your work day is full of smiles and laughter, then you have to be doing something right.

Running continues to be my lifeline. I feel like recently I have developed a new appreciation for the sport that has held my heart for the last 10 years. I don’t run for speed, time, PRs, or any goals…. I just run for me and that feeling is incredible freeing. You haven’t seen me post about paces, distances, or speed workouts recently, because those metrics just aren’t a priority for me. Feeling good is a priority, that rush of hitting the pavement is my priority, and I’m 100% okay with that. I’m slower than I used to be and can’t just pull out double digit runs on any random day like I used to, but I’m still out there and I’m still moving and that’s what matters. Run Happy for life, yo!

Let’s see… what else?

We just spent an incredible week at my favorite island and Annalynn officially became a fish.

 

By the way, Little Mermaid is the current obsession in our house and I’m not mad about it all.

My Sister-in-Law and brother are due to give birth in August and Annalynn can’t wait to welcome another cousin to the clan – especially a girl cousin!

Oh, and my mom recently lost 25 pounds by just following her FitBit!

Her step game is strong! I tried to keep up with her on the island and I’m not afraid to admit that she kicked my butt each day. Her goal is 20K steps a day and she freaking kills it. Go Mom!

Man, it feels good to write in here. I didn’t realize how much my fingers missed this.

Welcome back! I was so excited to see your blog post pop up in my blog reader feed this evening. I would love to hear about your day to day life again. I remember you daily posts back in the day when it was just you and Maddie. Oh how things have changed. Can’t wait to hear about the Brooks running trip … I am sure that you will have a blast!

p.s. Little Mermaid, is there even a better Disney Princess?? 😉

I would like to vouch for Queen Elsa! 🙂 and whoa! I’m so glad that I checked back on the blog after a long. Because I didn’t actually think that you had a new post up but you did! Missed you!

Just have to say….I use to read your blog more often but then I just got away from it…seeing your new house and how you guys have changed it already looks wonderful. I am curious to see the rest of it now too….have fun on your BROOKS adventure.
