Aww! As a Tennessean, I love that you picked the Smokies for Annalynn’s first plane trip. I appreciate your down-to-earth yet charming depiction of parenting. Realistic and enticing, which is a tall order for this childless 30-something.

Gatlinburg is a fun town and lucky to still be standing after the devastating wildfires. I’m sorry it’s not for you.

Future siblings?! Is there an exciting announcement coming soon?!

Not anytime soon. We’ve never been shy about wanting more kids, but there will probably be at least a 3 year age gap there. 🙂

We live in Knoxville and have done the Laurel Falls hike many times. It’s supposed to be “easy”, but it definitely is challenging. I felt ridiculous having trouble with it when I saw all of the people with strollers on the path. Now I feel a little bit better. 😀

Hello Meghann. It sounds like a wonderful trip. And Annalynn is such a cutie 🙂
What ist the pink thing you are wearing at the airplane? Is it something to make the flight more comfortable for a baby?

It’s the Tula (baby carrier) I wore her on and off the plane in.

As a mom of 5, I always say if we go away with the kids, it is a trip. Without kids is a vacation!

What a fun trip! I’m already a little nervous about traveling with our little one this summer but this gave me hope!

This looks amazing! Where did you stay? I’ve been looking for cabins like that to take the family up to and hike nearby. Did you have far drives overall (from airport to cabin, cabin to hiking trail)? I’ve checked out places in North GA from Orlando, but afraid that my 4 and 8 year old wouldn’t be able to handle both the flight to Atlanta and then the 2 hour drive to the cabin. Something more direct or less travel time for them is ideal.

We found the cabin off of VRBO. It was located in Sevierville, TN – about an hour from the Knxoville airport and 45 minutes from a lot of the hiking trails and other activities on the outskirts of the park. It really wasn’t a bad location – all of the driving was doable.

Your trip looks so fun and inspiring! Funny aside about mashed potatoes… my son was the same way. I love mashed potatoes and never understood him. He is now 4 and last month tried them again and said he loves mashed potatoes, though in reality I think he only had 1 bite. Maybe it’s the texture? But he likes mashed sweet potato, so who knows. Kids are crazy.

Just wondering, if Derek was sleeping, how did you get a picture of you sleeping on the plane? Did someone else take it?

Ah sorry I meant if Derek was rows back, how did you get a picture?

Yes! I was wondering this too! Did the guy sitting next to you take the pic of you guys asleep?

Also – this trip looks amazing. Definitely now on my list of places to visit!

While I did fall asleep on the plane, I asked the man next to us to take a quick photo after I woke up and pretended to be asleep. 🙂

    Meghann,
I’m glad you all had a nice and safe trip. I used to fly Allegiant out of St. Pete a lot until I read this article in the Tampa Bay Times- http://www.tampabay.com/projects/2016/investigations/allegiant-air/mechanical-breakdowns/ . While all airlines have had safety issues at one point or another and I’m sure Allegiant has fixed some of their problems as a result of this, I just wanted to share because I think it is important.
