Favorite Toys: One-Year Old

by Meghann on December 5, 2016

This is part of a series of Holiday Gift Guides I’m doing for the month of December. Since I’ve received a handful of inquiries on gift ideas for a one-year old I thought this would be a fun one to start with.

Annalynn is 14-months now (I know, I can’t believe it either) and is quickly transforming into a full-blown toddler. I love it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s incredibly exhausting chasing her around and keeping up with her ever-changing mood (laughing one second, crying the next), but it’s also really amazing. I love hearing her babble. I love watching her face light up as she figures something out. And I love her hugs and affection. She’s becoming her own person and it’s truly incredible.

One of the things I love the most is how interactive she is, especially when it comes to toys. Instead of the old days when we would hold something in front of her face hoping for a smile, she’s now fully independent and interactive when it comes to toys. Below are some of her current top picks:

Little People Disney Figures

Annalynn received a set of Little People Disney Princesses for her birthday and they quickly became her go-to toy. She’s not really into stuffed animals, or soft toys, but she loves these hard-plastic little figurines. They’re really the perfect size for her little grip. She’s always carrying one around the house, and they’ve started traveling with us when we’re out-and-about. Plus, they’re just so cute. Little People has a pretty extensive line of Disney-themed figurines and it would be easy for me to go a little crazy growing her collection.

So far I’ve managed to control my urge to buy up all the Little People and, as of right now, we only have the Little People Mickey and Minnie’s House Playset waiting for her under the Christmas tree. She’s pretty obsessed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (and most things related to Mickey), so I know this will be a big hit.

Fisher-Price Little People Music Parade Ride-on

Another first birthday gift that became a big hit. Annalynn loves to ride around the playroom while honking the horn or turning the fake ignition key. There’s a storage under the seat, which is perfect for storing her Little People figures for safe keeping during her rides. I don’t know what it is with lids are containers, but if the toy has a lid, or a way to put something into the toy, then her interest in the toy rise ten times over.

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Corn Popper

A simple, yet brilliant toy that gets dragged all over the house. Never underestimate the power of a classic!

The Peas Series

I’ve mentioned this book series before, but it remains one of our absolute favorites. Annalynn prefers catchy, sing-song books with memorable rhymes and colorful photos. She loves the Pea Series and will instantly sit and listen intently when I read the story. Her attention span doesn’t last half as long for other books, it really is quite amazing. These books are my new go-to for baby shower and first birthday gifts.

Disney Mickey Mouse My First Piano

As I mentioned above, Annalynn is a huge Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fan so anything Mickey related tends to be a hit. This little piano plays the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme song, which earns it extra points. She also enjoys hitting the keys and making her own music on the little piano.

Oball Go Grippers Vehicles

Annalynn has always been impressed with her cousin Owen’s cars, so I wanted to get her a set of her own. These little grippers are the perfect starter cars for any growing car enthusiast. Now she can race Owen in style.

So that’s what Annalynn is loving now. What are your one-year old’s favorite toys?

My son is 14 months and he’s really into his play vacuum, stacker and books with flaps right now. That at anything that’s not a toy- like q-tips, anything in the kitchen, etc. 😉

My 20-month-old daughter is obsessed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse too! And her very favorite song is the old school Mickey Mouse March from the original Mickey Mouse Club show. She walks around the house singing, “M-I-C…see you real soon! K-E-Y….Why? Because we like you!” constantly and it kills me.

One toy that my mom bought her randomly and she has been SO into is the Leap Frog Shapes and Sharing Picnic Basket. It’s a picnic set that comes with different types of food, plates, cups, etc. and the food is all in different shapes, so the plates work kind of like a shape sorter where certain foods will only fit in the correctly shaped spot on the plate. The picnic basket also sings songs and all that jazz. I would NEVER have thought to buy this for her myself, but she asks me to get it out first thing every. single. morning. Sometimes it seems so random which toys end up being a hit!

You gotta get her a plasma car soon!!! They are the best toys and last soooo long (as in years they get played with).

Were you at any point worked that she would eat something small, like a small toy?

My little one loves to build things out of anything he can find blocks, cans, boxes. He always has fun.
