Halloween 2016

Happy Halloween!

FSU Family Halloween Costume

This was technically Annalynn’s second Halloween, but in a lot of ways it felt like her first. Last year she was a teeny, tiny newborn and we didn’t even have a costume for her. We stayed in and kept all the lights off to keep any trick-or-treaters away. This year she’s walking, babbling, and we couldn’t wait to take her out trick or treating for the first time. Derek had ordered an FSU cheerleading uniform online  and it just so happened we all had FSU jerseys to fit the theme (yes, even Maddie joined in on the fun!).

Our fun actually started at our local Publix, where I had received a flyer the day before advertising in-store trick or treating for Halloween. The set-up was well done. Each department had candy/ coloring activities  and we went around the store collecting treats.

It was Annalynn’s first taste of what trick or treating was, and though she was a little confused in the beginning, by the end she had no problem reaching her hand in the bags and grabbing a treat. She’s really into putting things into buckets (and taking things out of buckets) so it was just one big fun game to her.  All of the Publix associates were super kind and friendly. They were even dressed up in costumes, which added to the fun.

After Publix we headed to Jeremiah’s for a free ice. Every year they have a really great promotion where you receive a free ice if you show up in costume. I used to take advantage of this offer all the time when I lived in Orlando, and now that there’s one in Tampa I couldn’t wait to re-start the tradition with my daughter.

Annalynn really likes the mango ice, but she’s not picky. 😉

Finally, it was time to trick-or-treat! We grabbed the wagon and did a small loop of our neighborhood.

Annalynn might not fully understand the concept of eating sweets and candy yet, but she loved playing with them. She kept flipping the bucket over in the wagon and then refilling it. It was hours of fun in her mind.

Annalynn had her first bite of Reeses (which she loved – smart girl) and managed to sneak a lollipop in (which she also loved and cried hysterically when I took it away). Otherwise the candy was just for playing, which was a-okay in her mind.

Overall is was a great Halloween. It was so much fun introducing Annalynn to the holiday, and I’m sure it will only get better and better as the years go on. It also makes me REALLY excited for the upcoming holiday season and how much fun Thanksgiving and Christmas will be this year!
