#WDWMarathonTraining Week 14

Hello, Week 14!

Between our mini-vacation, the Thanksgiving holiday, and recovering from last week’s cold; my training schedule was definitely a little off this week. Somehow I managed to still get my miles in (eh… for the most part) and was incredibly excited to run my longest distance since I completed IRONMAN Florida in 2013. I’ll take it!

Monday

  • Distance: 3 mi
  • Time: 31:55
  • Pace: 10:38

 

This was my first run after taking the whole weekend off to let my body recover. I felt great as soon as I hit the road. It was a dramatic improvement from last week’s struggles. It’s amazing how much your running improves when you have a clear head and can breathe comfortably through your nose.

I also ran in my Brooks Greenlight Running Capris for the first time this season. It’s Florida, I can probably count on two hands how many times a year I’m able to run with capris or tights!

Tuesday

  • Distance: 4 mi
  • Time: 41:23
  • Pace: 10:22/mi

I had the semi-rare opportunity to run Annalynn to daycare in her jogging stroller. Running with her to daycare has turned into one of my favorite activities. The weather was amazing with a slight chill to the air. I know I say it every time, but I really wish this could be a part of our regular drop-off routine.

Wednesday

  • Distance: 15 mi
  • Time: 2:35:30
  • Pace: 10:22/mi

A new post-IRONMAN PDR! WOO HOO!

This run was absolutely amazing! I’ve locked myself into a pretty decent long-run routine this training cycle. I’ve been enjoying a coffee and toast before heading out and stashing a bottle of water/Gatorade and fruit snacks by the neighborhood sign for a quick mid-run pick me up. Derek had an early morning doctor appointment on Wednesday, so my goal was to be back at the house before 8:00 to get Annalynn. He had her up early (the girl loves to sleep-in), fed, and prepped for a quick exchange.  I made it home with about 2 miles left on my run, placed Annalynn in the stroller, and then headed out for the last stretch. The first 13 miles were great – I even managed some negative splits! – but the last two miles with the stroller were pretty horrendous. Pushing the jogging stroller after running a half marathon was no joke! I almost gave up and walked the rest of the distance, but I pushed through (barely) and finished with a light jog.

It was worth it to get to hang out with this smiling beauty. I love sharing these moments with here.

Thursday

My siblings and I had a very informal turkey trot to kick-off Thanksgiving. We met downtown and did a quick loop of a nearby park. It was James’ first time riding in the jogging stroller. Hopefully the first of many!

Saturday

  • Distance: 3 mi
  • Time: 30:45
  • Pace: 10:16 /mi

I managed to sneak a gorgeous beach run in during our stay in St. Augustine. I LOVE running on the beach and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to dig my heals into the sand.

Brooks Mazama Trail-Running shoes

I wore my new Brooks Mazama Trail-Running shoes for the occasion. My friend Jesica (a fellow Brooks Ambassador) once told me how much she enjoys wearing her trail shoes when running on the beach, and I have to say it does make a difference. The shoes are designed for technical trails and muddy conditions, but the grippy outsoles are also great for balancing on uneven surfaces (like sand). They’re very light and fast. I found them to be pretty quick out there.

A new week is underway and I’m hoping to get back on my regular training schedule.

Every holiday from 2008-2013 is meticulously documented with dozens of photos from my “big” camera that had been swiftly uploaded, edited, and shared within hours of the event.
