Ready for a Racecation

The countdown is on! Tomorrow I’m leaving on a jet plane for Seattle and for the first time in forever I’m actually packed and ready to go a full day in advance. What? What? Planning to blog about what I’m packing was a key motivator – maybe I should remember this approach for the future?

I’m heading to Seattle to join the Brooks Running crew for a weekend filled with shoes, food, and running. On Saturday I’m running my first (and probably only) pregnancy race – the Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle 8K. I ran the half marathon last year and LOVED it so I’m really psyched I’m still able to participate in a portion of the event this year.

So what’s in the bag? More than I was expecting to bring. Considering how picky I’ve been with my outfits lately, I’ve basically got back-ups for my back-ups.

Yes, three days of travel requires six outfit changes thankyouverymuch.

And apparently four pairs of shoes?

I have my Brooks Vanguards for travel, Brooks Glycerin 13s for race day, sandals for my skirts/dresses, and Toms because, well, Toms.

I splurged on a pair of highly reviewed overpriced maternity leggings for the trip (I wanted a decent capri style that didn’t show my granny panties), but unfortunately I opted for Amazon’s “free shipping” option and the system failed me. Generally I have good luck with items shipping immediately, but this seller decided to take their sweet time. Now it looks like they won’t be at my door until Friday evening. Fail. By the way, I upgraded to Amazon Prime this week. I know I’m probably the last person on the planet to take the plunge, but this order finally put me over the edge. I see the light and the light is worth an annual fee!

I’m going to stop at Target on the way home after work and check out their maternity leggings. Unfortunately none of my leggings fit comfortably anymore (I can roll the top band down, but it’s not very comfortable and it’s a really long flight to not be 100% comfortable for) and it’s not easy to find high-quality decent capri maternity leggings in the usual stores. Most places carry the majority of their maternity line online and I don’t have time to check out the local maternity consignment shops. Oh, well.

So with all that being said, I still have no idea what I’m wearing on the flight. However, I do know what I’m wearing for race day on Saturday:

I have all the race day essentials covered:

  • Jacket for walk to the starting line
  • Headband
  • Hair tie
  • Sunglasses
  • iPod holder
  • iPod
  • Garmin
  • Sports Bra (The Moving Comfort Juno – Holy crap is this bra amazing!)
  • Running top (potential to change)
  • Shorts
  • Socks
  • Shoes

I haven’t run with my Garmin since January. I’m packing/ bringing it out of habit, but I’m not sure I’ll wear it on race day. I’m planning on running a slow, casual race and am nervous the Garmin could add some unnessecary pressure. On the other side, it would be nice to set some time intervals for my run/walk so my 50/50 split of run/walk doesn’t accidentally turn into 20/80 split of run/walk. Decisions. Decisions.

Yes, plastic sandwich bags really do make the best organizers for things like chargers, jewelry, and make-up.

(p.s. When the trip is over I generally keep the sandwich baggies in my suitcase so they’re ready to be reused for the next trip. I’m fancy like that.)

I’ll have my smaller carry-on filled with laptop, iPad, more chargers (because every trip requires at least 6 different chargers, right?), and snacks. That reminds me, I need to buy snacks.

Now I just need Friday to get here so I can fly. Are you ready Seattle, I’m coming for ya!
