Day in The Life: May 13, 2015

by Meghann on May 13, 2015

5:40am: Alarm goes off. Maddie goes crazy and jumps off the bed in excitement, she thinks it’s time to get up. I press snooze and squeeze my snoogle tighter.

5:45am:  Second alarm goes off. Maddie starts licking my face. Noooo… is it really time to get up? I crawl my way out of the bed and let Maddie out.

5:50am: I get dressed, throw my hair in a ponytail, and grab my shoes.

5:55am: I grab the doppler for my daily dose of baby heartbeat. I find the heartbeat pretty quickly and I swear I can faintly feel the baby pushing back as I push the doppler into her. Go away, Mom. I’m trying to sleep.

6:05am: Maddie and I head out for a 3-mile run. We watch the sunrise and take plenty of walking/ sniffing breaks. I finish listening to Outlander on the run – Holy crap, I’m obsessed! Can’t wait to download the next one!

(p.s. This is how happy Maddie is at the beginning of every run. She basically spins the first couple of minutes spinning in circles and looking back at me with the biggest smile on her face. It’s actually quite impressive.)

6:45am: Arrive back at home. Jump in the shower.

7:00am: Throw my robe on and head to the living room to turn the Today Show on. I start making breakfast with my wet hair still pulled back in a towel.

7:10am: Today’s breakfast: a bowl of vanilla Chobani with Cinnamon Chex, walnuts, peanut butter, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and a side of decaf vanilla coffee.

7: 15am: Sit on the couch and relax for a few minutes. I hate being go-go-go all morning and love having the extra time to just sit on the couch and watch tv.

7:30am: Feed Maddie

7:35am: I’m too lazy to blow dry my hair, instead I mousse it up and let it air dry – aka lazy hair.

7:40am: Make lunch for the day. (I literally just grab a container of left overs, a sparkling water, and an apple)

7:45am: Stand in front of my closet hating my wardrobe – ugh, it really sucks not knowing what will and will not fit. I opt for comfort and grab a loose black cotton skirt and a maternity tee shirt. At least my selection goes with my lazy hair?!

8:05am: Kiss the husband good-bye and hit the road.  I listen to the soundtrack from The Last Five Years on the way to work – another obsession.

8:45am: Arrive at work, find a parking spot, and head in the office.

10:00am: I’m starting to develop the habit of casually munching on snacks through the day, it helps with my crazy hunger if I have small snacks at my desk. This week I’ve been trading off between dried mango and cashews.

12:00pm: Lunch time! Today’s meal consist of  leftover chicken sausages on a toasted everything bagel with leftover potatoes and a sparkling water (I ended up eating the apple later).

4:00pm:  Eat the apple from lunch

6:20pm: Leave the office and head home. Continue to sing at the top of lungs The Last Five Years soundtrack.

6:45pm: Stop at Publix and pick up pizza supplies for dinner.

7:15pm: Arrive at home and let Maddie out.

7:30pm: Pizza time!

Before: (topped with prosciutto, mozzarella, and olives)

After:

Finish with arugula

7:45pm: Re-watch the first episode of Starz in celebration of finishing the book.

8:00pm: Ice cream. Obviously.

8:40pm: Derek’s home! He puts on and I break out the computer.

Bedtime isn’t too far off. Good night.

Hi Meghann! My midwives had cautioned against using the doppler more than occasionally. We don’t really know the affect it can have on a developing baby. Wanted to pass that along!

Seconding this – we bought one last fall and my doc said not to use it more than once a week, but she would prefer less than that, for the reasons Jessica gave above.

My dog looks the same way when we take him for walks, except he’s a 60 lb yellow lab, hahah. Also that pizza is life. I need it in my life now please.

I admire that you head to bed so early. I wish I could hit the sack as early as you!

Hi meghann,

I have been reading your blog for the longest. I’m a mom to 2 boys (9 & 7). Congrats on your pregnancy, so happy u r now expecting. I too had a missed miscarriage at 17wks. It knocked my confidence in so many ways and i am only now startibg to recover. Anyways, i wanted some running advice. I am 35 i just took up running regularly i am running 2 miles in 24mins. I feel exhausted and exhilerated when finished, but am i kidding myself? am i so slow as to be laughable? Or should i forget about time and just enjoy the accomplishment?? Love 2 u and ur family xxx

Great job staying active. That lunch looks perfect! I’ve been snacking on dried apricots and unsalted, roasted almonds lately and LOVE THEM!

I have GOT to remember to make a pizza with Publix dough! I keep threatening to do it, but always wind up with a Freshetta instead. Yours looks so much better!

Have to say I miss your daily meal posts so this was walk down nostalgia lane. I love Outlander! I’ve been listening to the audio book too after getting obsessed with the Starz show. I still have 16 hours to go before finishing so I wont be prepared for the episode tomorrow that I keep seeing everyone already freaking out about.

I concur with both Jessica & Amy. They work by sending sound waves in a concentrated spot. Which means they heat up that spot with sound waves. They are still doing studies on how that could affect a growing fetus’ organs. In my Bradley class I researched ultrasounds & found that early on they could do harm, even Dopplers. I’m upset that I was given so many ultrasounds in my pregnancy, 6w, 7w, 10w, 12w, 19w, 28w, 32w, 36w. That was the schedule. I left my OB after the 19w ultrasound & started seeing a midwife who only did the 32 week growth ultrasound after 20 weeks. Please look into using a Doppler daily!

This is weird, but when pizza makes those crust bubbles it freaks me out. If we buy pizza from somewhere it doesn’t. Only if we make it at home. Is that weird?
