Fashion blogger I am not. Someone who loves new clothes (especially new clothes that come in a cute tote) I most definitely am.
Golden Tote recently reached out to me to review one of their adorable tote bags. What is Golden Tote? It’s a monthly clothing flash-sale site. Their “Golden Totes” include 5-7 clothing items, 2 of which are chosen by you from the clothing gallery, and the additional items are chosen by stylists based on your style profile.
You pay a flat rate at the beginning and keep everything in your tote. They have an all-or-nothing return policy, so if you really hate it you can return the whole tote. If you’re not a fan of only one or two items, they suggest trading and swapping in their Golden Totes Trading Group on Facebook.
For my first tote, I selected the Tis the Season Dress and the Thankful Dress as my initial picks for my tote.
When the tote arrived, I was really impressed with the quantity and quality of its contents. The initial $149 price tag seemed a little high at first, but was completely justified when the tote arrived.
I was really happy when I tried the ‘Tis the Season dress on.
It was festive, it had pockets, and it was the perfect fit. I loved it instantly and couldn’t wait to wear it to Derek’s holiday work party the following weekend.
The dress was extremely comfortable and I received compliments on it all night. I’m already looking for another excuse to wear it. Don’t be surprise if you see it again on New Years!
I had my doubts when I first pulled the Thankful Dress out of the bag. I originally requested it because it looked comfortable and I was in the market for a comfortable dress that was also work appropriate. However, when I tried it on, I wasn’t super impressed with the fit or bottom.
Once I paired the dress with a loose vest and wore it to work, it suddenly became one of my favorite items from the bag. It was ridiculously comfortable and I felt fabulous in it. It’s amazing what a difference a little styling can make.
Here’s what the stylist selected:
I loved the blue and black tunic dress. It was cute, comfortable, and great for the office.
I also loved the black Hourglass Lilly dress. I have a similar Hourglass Lilly dress with the same shape, but more of a summer pattern.
I love that dress and was happy to see a winter version of it. The dress is really comfortable and fun to style.
Another favorite was the gray chunky sweater. I’ve really been into chunky sweaters this season.
This one earned bonus points for also having a fun back.
I paired the sweater with jeans and sneakers for a casual day in the office.
I was less inspired by the orange long sleeve top.
To be fair, I haven’t had the chance style the top for work, but so far I’m not loving the fit or color palette.
Ditto for the black top (and final piece of the bag).
I didn’t love the top with the black. Maybe I should try it was jeans? I’m not sure. How would you style the top?
Overall I ended up with five items that I really loved and can’t wait to wear again. I’d call that a win. It’s particularly impressive when you consider the fact that the style profile questionnaire only consisted of a couple of questions.
If you love trying new clothes, working with online stylists, and/or receiving boxes full of surprises, then I highly recommend giving Golden Tote a try. I really enjoyed
my experience and look forward to trying it again. At the very least, a Golden Tote would make a great Christmas gift for the clothes
lovers in your life.

I think the black top would look better with a fitted skirt, sometimes old navy has comfy ones. especially if you could get a raspberry color, or do a bright accessory or jacket, I agree the black on black is too much for this top.

I think these outfits are so cute! With the last top – I would actually tuck it into a skirt – either something flouncy and fun, or something with a high waist and slim-cut. Pair it with dressy flats or heels and you have another great outfit for work.
My purse isn’t going to cut it anhmore. These days I have way too much to carry.
That black & white holiday dress is adorable!!! So glad you kept it!

I agree with the Orange top…hard to be inspired by it…but that black top? Tuck it into a pencil skirt and some pointy high heels and you should have a nice work outfit.
Hmmmm I like the idea of this but I wasn’t thrilled with my StitchFix experience, so I’m not sure what to think!

LOVE the first dress! So cute!
The first dress is perfect on you! So cute!
I like the idea that you know the cost up front. You aren’t tempted to splurge on pieces if you don’t think the price is right like on Stitch Fix.

What brand is the ‘Tis the season dress? It is no longer available on the site and I really want it!
It’s Skies are Blue.
Thank you!
I love EVERY piece you pictured, and need to do this! Perfect as I revamp my wardrobe postpartum and can finally fit in things again. I like the price point options too.
I went to go sign up for this and try it out; I think they must replenish monthly for their two choices. There wasn’t much selection left for my two items to pick. I will try again in January. Thanks for sharing. This is a really cool concept!
They do! I’ll post something when the January stuff is released. I know you’re back and forth with StitchFix, so this will be a good one for you to try!
Why can’t I read any comments anymore?
There’s a glitch with the blog, I’m not sure how to fix it. You can still see comments in mobile view!
The black top would look really cute with skinny jeans and black heels… Or even a pair of colored skinnies!
