A Mini Reunion Weekend

by Meghann on November 17, 2013

It was a good weekend for football!

Derek and I road tripped it up to Tallahassee this weekend for some FSU football. We hadn’t been to a game together in 4 years (WHAT?!?) and my college girlfriends and I decided to make a mini-reuninion weekend out of it. The fact that we’re currently ranked No. 2 in the country in the country was just icing on the cake. Go Noles!

The gang in 2006. Oh, how we’ve all changed since then!

We arrived late Friday night and headed straight to our old Friday night stomping grounds – Bullwinkles.

Man, nothing had changed. The bar was still PACKED and I swear the same bartenders were still there turning the same drinks. I forgot how cheap college bars are. $10 cover for all you can drink (and they don’t go lightly on the pours either). Derek got tired of waiting in line to refill the tiny cup so he paid an extra $6 for a “big gulp” cup. He swore that cup was all Jack, with just a splash of coke. Even better, the “big gulp” had free refills! I miss college.

We were all so proud that we made it to 1:30 before calling it a night. I’m sure the “pre-gaming” cups of Starbucks helped. πŸ˜‰

And in true college tradition we stopped at What-a-Burger on the way home and killed two large fries in the car. I have no idea why I carried around an extra twenty pounds in college… do you?

Saturday was game day and we kicked the tailgating party off right with mimosas.

We’re classy tailgaters now.

The best part about game days is you never know who you’re going to run into. We had to drive 4 hours north to see our good friend Nate and Callie… who live an hour south of us.

Is the Mini Athlete not the cutest little FSU fan you’ve ever seen?! He was here to see Jameis and he made sure to let everyone know that.

It was an amazing day for football – not too hot, not too cold, and just the right amount of Florida humidity. I miss Tallahassee falls!

I posted a photo to my Instagram account and not even 2 minutes later I got a text from my friend Jackie telling me to look right. Sure enough, there she was standing a couple of sections down, waving her arms like a crazy woman.

The bright orange shirt was a also a giveaway. I’m sorry Jackie, but this wasn’t Syracuse’s game. Can we still be friends?

IMG_2266.JPG

I attended FSU towards the end of the Bobby Bowden era. We always had a winning season, but we definitely weren’t scoring the points we are now. This may have been the highest scoring FSU game I’d ever been too. I’d never sang the FSU fight song so many times in one game. It was admittedly really fun to watch my beloved Noles kick so much booty in one game.

We left with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter so we missed the field goal Syracuse made to get some points on the board. Still, I’ll take the 59-3 score any day of the week.

There was talk about going out after the game, but even a Venti coffee couldn’t keep my eyes open. We were all in bed at 9:00pm and totally okay with that.

Sunday morning we had one final breakfast with our friend Jordan who unfortunately wasn’t able to attend the game yesterday.

Jordan was the first of the group to get married and now she’s expecting the first baby! It’s crazy that our next reunion we’ll have little babies roaming around.

It was sad to say good bye, but we’re already promising not to let another 5 years go by before we’re all together again. It was such a fun weekend and I can’t wait to do it again!

When’s the last time you visited your old college stomping grounds?

Ha. Yeah, good luck with Alabama if you really want them. Usually I am a GA fan, but since my husband is an Alabama fan AND they are #1, I’ll root for them right now, Roll tide! Sorry, but they will wipe the floor with Florida. Bahahahaha πŸ™‚

What a fun weekend! I wish I loved closer to my college friends — we haven’t seen each other in a long time because we live so far apart!

Yes we can still be friends, as long as we never speak of Saturday again. πŸ™‚ I obviously knew we were going to lose, I just wasn’t expecting us to not even show up. I stayed until the bitter end for the field goal. I needed the teeny tiny moral victory.

So great bumping in to you. Social media and its ability to stalk, er, find friends is a beautiful thing.

Next time, how about we meet on neutral territory, like Disney!

Cynthia, the GA commenter above, is just bitter about the way GA lost to Auburn yesterday and is jumping on the Bama bandwagon! HA I have faith FSU will beat Bama in the championship! Go Noles!!! πŸ™‚

This looks like SUCH a great time! I love going to college football games – I am starting to feel old but there is something about going back that just makes you feel like a college student again! Glad you had such an awesome weekend!

I haven’t been back to my college in ages! I watched the ACC women’s soccer championship in person last weekend and we saw the FSU women claim the championship, they are a great team!

I am so bummed you were in Tally and I didnt know! I have lived here since graduating in ’08 and still love tailgating every game. We do a giant tailgate in the IM field and it is always such a great time. FSU football season really is the most wonderful time of the year πŸ™‚

I really haven’t been back since my first homecoming after graduation. Now that I live in Texas and my school’s in Boston, it doesn’t look like I’ll be back there any time soon. Luckily I’ve seen college friends since then, I just haven’t been on campus.

Great photos! Looks like a fun weekend to catch up and relax! I actually haven’t visited my college since graduating, though I live only 15-20 mins away and have passed by several times, I haven’t been on the actual campus since graduating in 2010.

Too funny I visited my old stomping grounds this weekend as well. I get chills thinking about it — sometimes it’s good to be home. For a weekend ;). My liver is tired!

College reunions are the best. My husband and I have made the 5-hour drive to our alma mater twice this year (once for a game and once just to walk the campus.) He had been wanting to go to a game for years, and being there for homecoming with our best friends was worth every penny!

I never left my college stomping grounds! My husband and I graduated from Bama a few years ago and both found jobs we love right here in Tuscaloosa. We love it! It’s definitely not the same as it was when we were in school, but it’s so fun to live in a college town and always be surrounded by people who love your team as much as you do!! And yeah, be careful what you wish for wanting Bama πŸ˜‰ Teams that have gotten us in the championship game haven’t been faring too well the past few years! Roll Tide!!

I went local to USF, and make my way over there at least once a year for a teacher training of some sort. Its always fun to be back and to be the one who knows my way around out of my teacher friends. I love revisiting Starbucks in the library and remembering the hours I spent on campus. πŸ™‚
