Our New Backyard

by Meghann on August 14, 2013

Have I showed your our new backyard yet?

IMG_1374.JPG

Derek, his brother, and his dad have slowly been redoing the backyard over the last couple of months. They started with a new fence, then painted the back wall, added a deck, planted sod, and added some plants.

IMG_1372.JPG

Maddie LOVES it. I wish I had better before photos, but the fence was falling down and it was just a mess of weeds and dirt. Maddie would put her nose up to the dirt – apparently she’s too good for it.

IMG_8772.JPG

Now she has no problem doing her business in the backyard, which is great when it’s late and taking her out would mean putting pants on. Now I can let her out back and no pants are required!

IMG_1378.JPG

Our hot tub is also gone (finally!) and has been replaced with a new deck.

IMG_1371.JPG

(wet from the rain)

We’re waiting for the after-summer sales to hit and invest in some nice patio furniture for our new space back here.

Our next big house project is moving the washer and dryer from the kitchen to the garage. This is something I’ve been looking forward to since we moved in. I’m not sure who thought it would be a good idea to put a washer and dryer in the kitchen, but I am OVER it.

Let’s see… what else is new?

I finally finished the second season of Dance Academy on Netflix (and the first 5 episodes of season 3 via YouTube) AWESOME show! If you have access to NetFlix, watch it!

Now I’m looking for a new show to watch while I’m on the bike trainer. I heard “Orange is the New Black” is good. has anyone seen it?

orangeisthenewblack.jpeg

Oh, and I had a WaWa Hoagie for the first time for lunch today.

Not bad. It was oddly fun to order it through a computer screen and I enjoyed the variety of toppings/sauces available. I also liked that it came toasted (I <3 toasted subs).

20130814_152405.jpg

I think I would get it again. Still doesn’t triumph Publix, but definitely better than Subway.

Where’s your favorite place to get a sub/ hoagie?

I fly out to Seattle early tomorrow morning. I’m really excited about this trip. I love Seattle and plan to explore as much as I can (ha! I say that now, but I’m usually a zombie when I travel for work). Does anyone have any recommendations for running paths or places to eat near Pike’s Market?

Yeahhhh Publix hands down for the best subs! In Miami/Kendall there is (was?) a place called Hungry Bear that kicked ass. Nothing like that around here in my little part of central FL though so Publix wins. :/ Cute little set up now! My backyard is up to my hips because my husband would rather be running than mowing. Darn us for living so close to trails! LMAO

I have to say I am a Subway fan as well. We also have a local grocery store called Wegmans that we go to all the time for subs – it is pretty delicious as well!

also your backyard is ADORABLE! I am a big advocate of letting my dogs do their business without pants on by letting them out into my backyard!

I liked orange is the new black, also liked a show called Hit or Miss if you are looking for Netflix suggestions. Both a have slightly weird overall concepts i guess but both easy to watch.

I was just in Seattle two weeks ago and we stayed on top of the hill in Queen Anne– it is a neighborhood about 1.5 miles from pike place with amazing houses and gorgeous views of the Seattle skyline and mountains. There is a loop that is specifically called “queen Anne loop” that you can find on mapmyrun.com that is 3.7 miles and incredibly scenic and not too hilly. (The hills in Queen Anne are crazy!) I highly recommend this route– it would be worth it to take a cab to Kerry park and start from there.. The walk from pile place wokld be a little long and then you would have to go up a very steep hill to reach the start. Kerry park is a famous scenic overlook at the top of Queen Anne. Otherwise the downtown has some pretty dicey areas but there is a path along the waterfront– just be careful running alone. Enjoy Seattle we had such gorgeous weather!!

That’s awesome you can have grass with a female dog! My female golden totally destroyed our grass within the first few months of living in our house and we ended up spending a fortune on fake stuff. Good luck on the patio furniture- I never realized how expensive it is!

Run along Alaskan Way. It is the street along the water, it’s a beautiful fun run!! The market is on that street. You can run by all the piers, including ( I forgot which number) but the hotel that has a famous picture of the Beatles fishing out their hotel window. Edgewater Hotel. (Google the image). There are also a ton of steps leading down to the street level, right around pike’s maker if you are looking for some stair challenges!! Or ask at your hotel, it’s such a running friendly city that they usually have route maps. You will love the lack of humidity!!! Such a nice change from FL.

Which wich is my all time favorite sub place but I’ve never tried Publix. I love Netflix. I recently finished watching Raising Hope. Great show but you can only watch a few episodes at a time. It is not one that you could sit and watch all day.
Have you seen House of Cards? I haven’t but that looks good too.

TV shows…
I’ve become obsessed (like rewatching episodes 3 times, buying themed items on Etsy obsessed) with Doctor Who over the past few months. I suggest giving it a try…it can take a few episodes to get past the silliness and understand the story. It especially gets good when David Tennant comes on in the 2nd season (and he’s so pretty!).

Speaking of pretty…you should definitely watch Sherlock. Two words: Benedict Cumberbatch. And incredibly well-written, well-acted, suspenseful, dark humor.

I’d like to watch Scandal. My parents love it.

I also started watching Merlin and that looks like a good series. Being Human and Torchwood as well (shows featuring handsome Russell Tovey and John Barrowman, respectively). I’m on a British TV kick.

Hope you find some great shows!

If you can get to Fremont I recommend Paseo’s – AHH-FREAKING-MAZING sandwiches. It’s a Fremont staple. The lines tend to get long but it is SO SO SO worth it. Also, you should absolutely check out Poquito’s for Mexican on Capitol Hill. My fiance’s family owns/manages it but I promise I’m not biased! Amazing food and the margaritas will be among the best you’ve ever had!! Get the Ahogada Torta – you won’t be disappointed.

I second this comment! You can take a water taxi from Downtown Pier 50 (about 5 blocks from Pike Market) that goes to West Seattle; it drops you off right on the Alki Trail. Then after your run, you can eat at Marination Ma Kai and have some good food, good views, and beer while you’re waiting for your water taxi back downtown. Alki Trail is great for runners.

There are differences and some liberties are taken in the show, but overall it is really good and can’t wait for s2. Only sad thing is 1 of the major characters (Laura Prepon) won’t be in s2.
