Thoughts From My Day

by Meghann on June 26, 2013

1. I can’t get Swim Bike Mom’s Ironman Coeur d’ Alene recap out of my head. She didn’t sugar coat anything about the race, writing about every gory detail (including “swim, bike, toot”). I could have been scared off by the kicks and head bangs at the swim start, I could have been scared by the forever long bike ride and possibility of ending up with unbearable sand in my bike shorts, and I could be scared off by the run and just how close she cut it with the marathon, but I’m not. Instead it was a great reminder as I continue to fight my way through Ironman training that come November it will all be worth it. Once I got to the emotional finish she had, that’s all I could think about. I want that finish. I want that feeling of accomplishment. I want to be called an Ironman.

A big CONGRATS to Swim, Bike, Mom for finishing her first Ironman. Wow. Just, wow.

2. I was all set to write a review about a new restaurant I tried with my co-workers today. It had such potential – it was in a great location, cute decor, and yummy sounding menu. However, it all stopped there. It took forever to get our food, it all came out at different times, and the center portion of my hot pressed cuban was cold. It was also overly priced for what you got. Blah. I hate it when a place falls short like that. Not cool.

3. Swim practice was cancelled tonight because of lightning and thunder. There once was a time when I would use it as an excuse not to return to the pool for the rest of the week. Today I didn’t even think twice about planning to meet tomorrow for swim instead. I have no idea where this new committed self is coming from (inspiration from Swim Bike Mom, perhaps?), but I wish I could find a way to bottle it up and sell it.

4. DOMA was struck down. Love is love, people! This is awesome news!

5. I hate doing laundry. Especially on a weeknight. Stupid towels.

Wait til you have kids. Then you’ll really appreciate SBM (I’m off to read the recap). And you will definitely be doing laundry during the weekday! It’s my evening routine. Kids in bed, fold laundry and watch “my” shows. πŸ™‚

Seriously!! Women who have kids AND jobs AND are Ironman training (or anything training, really!) are amazing and such an inspiration!!

I don’t mind doing laundry but I hate hanging it out to dry, that is a job I can’t stand!!

Shame about your bad meal!

I am sooooo with you on #4. I have no idea how two people can make so much laundry?! Also, #3 was pretty spectacular and longggg overdue.

Meaghann you post links and photos of other people and how they inspire you- you inspire me to get out there every day! I’m training for my first marathon and I’m trying to take 1 day at a time and reading your blog and seeing how committed and inspired you are is very helpful!!

Oh and I’m weird and love laundry but don’t ask me to unload the dishwasher- the worst!

I hate the dishwasher too! I mean, I love having one but hate unloading it even though it takes about 2.5 minutes!

Loved, loved, loved her recap. And I am following in your triathlon footsteps. After I signed up for Augusta 70.3 in 2012 (my first half), I googled race recaps and found your blog. We will be a IMFL this year volunteering and sherpa-ing (is that a word?) for friends and then we will see what happens on Sunday after that πŸ™‚ I’ll cheer you on for sure!

Just out of curiosity – what was the restaurant? I live near you and would appreciate the heads up in case I wanted to try it! πŸ™‚

Her post was AMAZING. I felt so inspired by it (and now I’ve been seeking out other Ironman recaps to read as well).

And YAY for no more DOMA. Love is love, such a big step in the right direction.

I work at a gym.. It’s all I do is fold towels it seems like!
You are going to do great on your Ironman. You’ve been training so hard!
And I know what you mean about the restaurant. My bf and I spent $188 for a steak and tasteless chicken. $10 for a bottle of water!? Really??

Today was my first training run for a marathon I’m running in November, I’m hoping to beat last year’s time and not get injured during training!
I don’t ming doing laundry, but it’s been raining a lot lately, so it’s all hanging all over the apartment (I don’t own a dryer) and that drives me crackers!
