Swimming Therapy

by Meghann on May 22, 2013

The pool is quickly becoming my favorite place to zone out and recharge. After a very long weekend of work, I couldn’t wait to jump in the pool on Monday morning. Since the rest of my team was in the pool earlier in the morning, I was on my own at 8:00. The sun was out, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, and the pool was so quiet and serene.

I had a lane all to myself (a rarity during the peak afternoon hours) and followed the first workout of my Ironman training plan. Unfortunately, time wasn’t on my side so I had to cut the workout short. I need to work on that. Obviously 3000 yds is going to take more than an hour to complete.

It felt so good to be in the water. I seriously could have stayed there all day if I didn’t have a job to get to. It was like all the stress from the weekend melted away and I was able to start the week fresh and recharged. If only that feeling would last forever!

This week has been busy, and I’m afraid my days will continue to remain busy until November. But luckily I still have the pool to fall back to when I need it.

I had another session this afternoon. This time my team was there and we were able to all zone out together. All of our lives are very busy at the moment, so I’m thankful we have this time together each week.

Tonight’s swim was a longer ladder workout. There wasn’t a lot of talking between sets, just a lot of swimming.

The workout:

  • 200 Warm-up
  • 300 Steady
  • 100 Kick
  • 2 x 150 @ 3:10
  • 100 Kick
  • 4 x 75 @ 1:45
  • 100 kick
  • 6 x 50 @ 1:00
  • 100 kick
  • 15 x 25 @ :40
  • 100 kick
  • 200 Cool Down
  • Total: 2500

Again, I felt like I could have kept swimming forever. Definitely a good sign going into Ironman training!

Lookie what I purchased!

I’m sad the photographers missed me in front of the VAB building, but at least I got a good on in front of the launch pad. This baby is getting framed! It’s also first official triathlon race photo I’ve purchased.

Derek and I are planning a date night for the weekend. Any suggestions? I’m thinking Great Gatsby might be involved, I re-read the book last fall and am dying to see the movie! Anyone seen it? Any good?

Ooooh! We’re going to see Gatsby this weekend, too, and I can’t wait. I’m an English teacher, so it’s quite shocking I have yet to see it! Eeeee!

That empty pool looks like heaven! I’m looking for a local pool to get back into swimming and all of your swim posts have been the inspiration! Great pic from the triathlon!

Definitely go see Great Gatsby. I first read the book in 8th grade and am in the process of re-reading it for the first time in years and I took my mom to see the movie for Mother’s Day and we all loved it!!

That empty looks like heaven! I have been looking for a local pool so I can get back into swimming (taught lessons & lifeguarded all through middle & high school). All of your swim posts have been the perfect inspiration!

Definitely go see Great Gatsby! I first read it in 8th grade and am in the process of re-reading it right now! I took my mom for mother’s day and we all loved it!

I love being in the pool when no one’s there. It’s just so peaceful.

I’ve heard awesome things about the Great Gatsby! I read the book in high school and remember very little of it, so I want to re-read it before going to see it. But how can you go wrong with Leo? πŸ˜‰

The Great Gatsby was my favorite book from high school, but I haven’t seen the movie yet. I’m thinking that needs to be rectified this weekend πŸ˜‰

See the movie, see the movie, see the movie, see the movie! Don’t expect a book replica, it’s obviously a movie adaptation, but I honestly thought it was pretty darn accurate! The soundtrack is fantastic.

Looks like you are definitely fit enough for your training if that is how you were feeling once you’d done an hours swim πŸ™‚

I’ve not seen The Great Gatsby but I definitely want to.

Aw, we also did Great Gatsby date night last week. I am not sure if I really liked it, all together with the modern music and elements, it just did not look real. 3D made it look more like a cartoon than like a movie. Leonardo was looking strange when playing insecure persons, but Carey Mulligan did a great job!

I contemplated rereading the book and then going to see the movie, but I haven’t done either yet! Sounds like a good date night to me. I read that watching movies together brings you closer to the other person, because you have the same physical reactions, so it’s a perfect ‘date night’ situation.

I would love to be able to swim like that! If I could only figure out my breathing while doing laps, I’d love to be able to swim and swim and swim! So good for the body πŸ™‚

Definitely check out Gatsby! It was a fun date night movie, I saw it with the boyfriend last week. He admittedly wasn’t a huge fan of the love story/plot line developments but he enjoyed it a little bit anyway!

I went to your group’s swim last Wednesday and enjoyed it! I’m going to try to come more often now that school is out. It’s a good group! And I saw Great Gatsby this past weekend and liked it. It wasn’t the best movie I’ve ever seen but it was enjoyable. I liked the music a lot, though some people are complaining that the modern music with the 1920’s plot doesn’t make sense.

Swimming is my favorite way to zone out too. I always go when I’m super stressed out (hence why I’m going every week this week leading up to my wedding!) and fell so much better after!

Saw The Great Gatsby last week. I was so excited to see it, but it kind of let me down! Have you seen the original? It’s on Netflix and is AWESOME compared to the new one. I’d recommend watching both! πŸ™‚

Glad you are finding a nice way to recharge! Yoga is my favorite way to unwind after a stressful week on Saturday mornings.

That race photo is great!!!

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the movie. I’ve been wanting to go, but have to re-read the book first. Enjoy date night πŸ™‚

Oh and Date night? This is not really a “go out” date but my boyfriend and I last weekend sat outside and played cards… it was a really good time. Expect he is super good at the card game golf!

I’ve heard great things about the Great Gatsby. I watched an interview on Colbert with the director, and he has received praise from Fitzgerald’s granddaughter, who said that Fitzgerald would’ve approved of the production. A high compliment for him, I think!

Wow! 2500 yards is a lot! I just started swimming because I am injured, and it’s the only thing I can do right now for exercise. I did 700 yards today, and was so proud of myself! I can’t wait to see your training progress and see you kick butt at Ironman!
