Just a tad chilly

Brrr… it’s cold outside!

How has our mild winter been followed by such a cold spring? I don’t get it!

Of course, it could be worse. It could be snowing! I feel for my friends in the northeast and midwest. Brrrr….

I was hit with the cold weather for both my swim and my run today. With the run, it’s wasn’t so bad. It was nice actually. I wore a reflective jacket and my capris and felt good. Since I’m currently plan-less until May, I just did an easy 4 miles and enjoyed the run.

The swim was cold. I knew I was in trouble when I had to turn the heat on during my short drive to the pool from my office (I’m such a wimp!). Luckily the water is heated, so once you’re in it’s not bad. It’s even better when you’re actually moving. Any breaks we had was a test of how much of my body I could keep below the water’s surface (again, I’m such a wimp).

I almost bailed on tonight’s swim. I’ve managed to bail on almost every practice in the last month and was so tempted to keep up with the pattern. I was tired, it was cold, and all I wanted to do was go home and lay on my couch. Somehow I managed to talk myself into it and was greeted with a practice full of nothing by pulls. My shoulders ached after the first 100 (and I still had 10 more to go). Each one felt harder than the last. I felt weak and out of shape. It didn’t help that the pool was gross. A windy weekend had allowed a lot of leaves to find their way into the pool and I felt like I was swimming through a bed of leaves.

It wasn’t my best practice, but it was definitely a needed one. We’re all counting down the days until our favorite pool re-opens for the season. I miss morning swim practices (I think we all do). It’s harder to get to the ones in the evening and there’s nothing quite like starting the day with a good swim. We all agree that summer can’t come soon enough.

I prepped dinner before work this morning and had salsa chicken (chicken breast covered in salsa) waiting in the crock pot when I got home (I <3 our crock pot!). I steamed some broccoli in the microwave, cut some tomatoes, shredded some cheese, and had a lovely chicken salsa salad for dinner.

Today’s packed lunch was a mix of veggies, cheese, hummus, and hard boiled eggs.

Breakfast was a hot bowl of oatmeal with nuts, strawberries, and peanut butter.

Evening swims always take it out of me. All I want to do is curl up in a ball and fall asleep on my couch. Unfortunately I have laundry that needs to be folded and dishes that need to be put away. Sigh. Such is life.

Yeah I do love running in the cold but I have to book it to the car as soon as I stop otherwise it’s too cold!

I’d take Florida weather anytime. It just stopped snowing here in Ohio. I’d like to start running outside in shorts. 🙂

Jealous of your year-round outdoor pool! It is so much more enjoyable to train outdoors. The outdoor pools here don’t open until Memorial Day – can’t come soon enough!

I hear ya on the cold spring. When I signed up for a 5 a.m. workout program starting at the end of March, I was not anticipating having to wake up even earlier to scrape the ice off of my car. “Real” spring will be here soon, right? Right?! 🙂

It was in the 40s 😉 It’s also all relative. Steph (the girl next to me) is from DC by way of Chicago and New Jersey so if she was also complaining it was cold I feel a little better about it.

I’m such a wimp to the cold – I hate it! But, oddly enough, I love winter more than summer because I do think it’s way easier to warm yourself up than it is to cool yourself off? Anyway, I’m joining the bandwagon on the SO. READY. for summer thing – us midwesterners are getting awful sick of all this snow!

We have a heated lap pool in our apartment. But I’ve been too chicken to swim since we moved in. I’ll have to do something stupid like register for a triathlon to get me going again!

Salsa chicken is one of my favorite simple meals! Also, I HATE when it’s cold outside and you have to swim. I feel like my arms freeze with every stroke! haha

I swim with my friends and we call eachother a team. The only fees we pay are for the pools.

If you are out of shape you should not necessarily just get in the pool and do the workout as it is written. Pulling is a training tool for increasing resistance on the shoulders once they are in shape. If you haven’t been swimming in a month is is not good for your shoulders to pull a 1000. Do the workout, just without paddles, it doesn’t make it less of a workout.

I’ve really been meaning to get back in the pool once a week or so, just by myself to work on my breathing and improve my swimming a bit if I ever want to complete a triathlon. Weekends are usually the only time I’m motivated to do it, and lately they’ve just been so jam packed with trips and whatnot. I’m looking forward to a weekend at home and hopefully an excuse to get a swim in!

I love swimming and it is really nice to get into a warm pool….but in the cold – you are a lot braver than me! Your meals you prepared look really great. Bet you cannot wait to get down to the pool when the weather warms up and have your strawberries at the pool side.

There really is something about swimming that just makes you so tired afterwards! I always find that. After a hard swim, I just want to go home and never move again.

You pretty much just summed up my life, good job for talking yourself into going to work out. Last night I had to go grocery shopping, cook dinner, fold laundry, all the blah tasks everyone has. I used it as an excuse NOT to go to the gym after work and I didn’t even clean my room and fold my laundry. I watched House instead, I am not even a fan of the show… tonight is a different story, off to the gym I go!

Oiye, I hated afternoon swim practice when it was just so cold out. Jumping in the water always seemed better and moving worked, but the act of getting out there was just soooo hard. I was shivering just looking at your photo. lol.

How long do you leave the crock pot on by itself for? I’m usually gone for more than 8 hours from my house and am scared of leaving the crockpot on during that time. Afraid of something burning and catching fire.

I set it on low for 10 hours. After that it automatically flips to a “warm” setting. I think it’s fine like.

There is no way I’d swim right now. Heated pool or not! I believe we are skipping Spring this year. 🙂
