Santa Snatches

Good Morning!

Less than a week until Christmas! Are you ready for it?

Since I’m heading to my parents’ neck of the woods tomorrow (I have my first dress fitting tomorrow afternoon!), today was my last CrossFit session until after Christmas. I’m kind of sad I’ll have a week away from my box, but plan to still do some at-home WODs while I’m away to keep me moving.

In the spirit of the Christmas, today’s WOD was “Santa Snatches”

I think when all was said and done we did over 55 snatches per arm today. Ouch.

But before the snatches, came the dead lifts. I’ve been waiting for a day where the skill focus was the dead lift and was excited to finally see that written on the wall when I walked in. We had to warm up and complete a 3 rm (rep max).

Everyone loves the dead lift and I’m still trying to figure out why. I wanted a day to focus on the lift because I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. I always guess what my weight should be for the WODs because I’ve never had a chance to max out on the dead lift and calculate where to go from there. I also still need to work on my form. A move that looks like it comes so natural to everyone else, does not naturally come to me. I know getting it right will just take time and a lot of practice.

After my long warm up ( I think if I was left unattended I would spend the whole class warming up, I love a good warm up), I attempted my first 3rm at 135. I thought I was done when my coach told me I had to do it again. What? I just did it. Nope. She saw that I could have kept going if I wanted and she wasn’t letting me off that easily. She added 2.5lbs on each side for a total of 140. When I went to lift again, it took everything in me to get that bar off the ground. It’s crazy what a difference 5 itty-bitty pounds can make.

I went up and down for one and my face was burning.

I went up and down again and had to catch my breath.

I went up and down for the last one and knew I had nothing left.

That, she told me, is what a 3 rm should feel like. Noted.

WOD: 10,9,8 … 1 of:

  • dumbbell snatches right arm
  • dumbbell snatches left arm
  • chin ups

For time

That my friends is a ladder workout. You start doing 10 of everything, then 9 of everything, 8 of everything, etc. The first 4 sets were rough. They felt long and never ending. Then you got over the hump at 7 reps and it started to quickly speed up after that. 6… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1 TIME!

We got out a little early and I headed home for breakfast.

in the bowl:

  • Cinnamon Cheerios
  • ricotta cheese
  • black berries
  • fig preserves
  • walnuts
  • peanuts

The peanuts were a bad decision, otherwise the mix was pretty tasty.

Maddie wanted some face time on the blog.

Either that or she’s telling me to get the camera out of her face so she can go back to sleep. Eh.

OMG I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve had time to comment on your site. Can’t wait to check out the travel and wedding updates over the Christmas holiday! πŸ™‚

Isn’t it nuts how 5lbs makes such a huge difference?! I love the deadlift because it is easy for me to go heavy. Just pick it up, simple enough. ha. Love the travel page – girl you get around!

Awesome job – I’m not a huge fan of dealifts – but I do like them a LOT better than squats!!! I’ve always called that a pyramid instead of ladder – same concept….maxing out on your #1. I do the pyramid when I bench. Those little 2 1/2 pounders will get ya!!! You think, ha that isn’t that much….shhhh it is!!!!! I’ve gotten stuck many a time on those little buggers!!!

The deadlift is SO effective. I never really done it before, only starting a couple of months ago, but I like it!
