Shopped Til We Dropped

by Meghann on November 23, 2012

Welcome to hell… err.. I mean Black Friday.

Just kidding!

It wasn’t that bad out there today. Actually, compared to years past, I’d say it was pretty tame. Blame it on the fact that the sales are starting at 8:00pm the night before or that we’re 100% into the digital age (and it’s just as easy to order a gift on your phone as it is at the mall), but the spirit of Black Friday just isn’t there anymore. Sigh. At least there were still a few good deals today (and the crowds weren’t bad – huge bonus!).

Instead of our usual super-early Black Friday wake-up call, my mom and I took the very relaxed approach this year with only a semi-early wake-up call. I even had time to squeeze in a quick 3-mile run and eat the lovely breakfast my dad cooked up.

Scrambled eggs, ham, and toasted biscuit.

We started at the Florida Mall and scored a few good deals at Old Navy, Victoria Secret, and the Gap (by the way, I love the Gap – why do I not shop there more often?).

Then headed out for Target, BJ’s, Bed, Bath, & Beyond, and a dozen other stores my brain is too fried to remember right now (we shopped til be dropped!).

We stopped for lunch at Panera Bread and I ordered the “You Pick 2” with the harvest salad and chicken stew.

The last time I ordered the harvest salad it was heavily drenched with a cherry dressing that overwhelmed the salad. This time I ordered the salad sans dressing and it was perfect. I would definitely recommend it without the stressing, unless you like really strong, tart dressing.

The red velvet crinkle cookie was calling our name for dessert.

Now that’s what I call shopping fuel – yum!

It was great spending a few hours with just my mom today. We were able to squeeze in some wedding shopping with our Christmas shopping and even picked up a few supplies I’d been meaning to get for a while. We were also on the hunt for some snowflake tins, which are proving to be harder to locate than I had originally planned. I found a few that were perfect, but the price was not. I found a few more where the price was perfect, but the tins were not. I just need to find a few (or 15) that are perfect in both price and looks. 😉

For dinner, we were both craving sushi.

We stopped for dinner at 5:30 (hey, we were hungry!) and lucked out with the $5 happy hour special for rolls. We split three rolls for a total of $15. Not bad for a sushi date.

We hit a few more spots after dinner and made it home sometime around 8 (almost 12 hours after we left this morning!). I crashed on the couch with some leftover apple pie and whipped cream.

While we were out shopping, I stumbled upon this really cool K’nex Roller Coaster that looked like something my brother or I would have been begging for for Christmas back in the day.

The coaster reminded me how much I used to love putting together puzzles and building things with Legos.

I did a little Googling when I got home and found this really cool Lego set online.

Only 1356 pieces.

Totally adding to my Christmas list this year. 🙂

What was your must-have Christmas item when you were 10?

I really wanted rollerblades for Christmas when I was 10. My siblings all got them the Christmas before (but I couldn’t since that was the year I broke my leg), so I was promised them the next Christmas. Luckily Santa delivered and I got my roller blades (and didn’t take them off for a month straight afterwards – pretty sure I’m slept in them).
