Heading to the Big Apple

by Meghann on June 13, 2012

Things I love about living in Tampa:

  • Great friends
  • Awesome triathlon/ running community
  • Buddy Brew coffee
  • Being able to leave my house an hour before my flight and still make it to the airport with plenty of time to spare.

I LOVED living in Orlando, but that never would have happened. I would leave my place two hours before my flight and still be pushing it. Not only was the airport on the complete opposite side of town, it was also very crowded with security lines that could be a little ridiculous at times. The Tampa airport is close by and small with a rarely a line to be found. :)

Before heading to the airport, I made a bowl of plain yogurt with berries, granola, and walnuts.

I was going to take it to the airport with me, but grew impatient and just dug in at home. :)

It should also be noted that I left the house with matching shoes (bonus points) and was able to travel in comfort thanks to my new FiveBamboo dress.

I HATE traveling in jeans! Actually, I hate wearing jeans in general – ultra-soft cotton dresses are the way to go! Who’s with me? ;)

Now I guess the question is, why the heck am I going to NYC in the first place?!

I’ll tell you why. This!

Brooks Blog Ambassador Badge.png

I signed on last month to be a Brooks Run Happy Ambassador!!!!

eeekkkk…. cue the fireworks! If I were to pick a dream company to partner with, Brooks would be it! Not only do I have a slight obsession with their line of glycerin shoes (I’ve owned EIGHT pairs over the course of 2.5 years), but I love their “Run Happy” philosophy. They believe in the fun side of running and try not to take themselves too seriously. If you’ve ever been to a race expo where Brooks is a major sponsor (the Rock ‘n’ Roll series comes to mind), you’ll typically find them in a circus type setting where being goofy and having fun is the name of the game. They’re there to make you laugh and remind you it’s ok to be silly, even when it comes to running! :)

(source: Brooks Running Facebook)

As a Brooks Ambassador, my role is to promote that “Run Happy” attitude. I’ll also be sharing some behind-the-scenes info on what goes into testing and producing Brooks products, as well as host some pretty cool giveaways along the way. New shoes? New gear? You’ve got it! You’ll just have to stay tuned for more details – you know never when a giveaway will pop up. ;)

I’m traveling to NYC today to meet the Brooks crew and get my first sneak peek into what Brooks is all about. I can’t wait to share what I discover along the way!

See ya in New York!

The Tampa airport is AMAZING – it’s always ranked one of the best in the country. I never have problems there, which makes my frequent, short trips much less stressful.

Also, CONGRATS, on the Brooks news! That is huge! You are a great candidate for spreading happiness, for sure.

Love Brooks!!! Just got their Pure Project: Cadence shoes, I needed a little bit more cushioning than my Vibrams and this is what I was recommended! Very stylish! I haven;t run in them yet due to a knee injury (not from the shoes!) Boo!

Congrats on being a brooks ambassador! I’m seriously jealous, that’s awesome! And I’m totally with you on comfy dresses > jeans.

11 Allison @ Running Through Red Lights June 13, 2012 at 12:40 pm

SO jealous! Brooks is an amazing company, and the “Run Happy” campaign is awesome!

12 Courtney @ Outrunning Insecurities June 13, 2012 at 12:45 pm

Congratulations on on becoming a Brooks Ambassador! Strangely enough I prefer jeans over dresses most of the time. It’s probably because I have one of the world’s comfiest pairs of jeans and I’m paranoid that I’m gonna flash someone when I bend down in a dress. I like to wear cotton dresses on warm summer days though.

13 Amelia June 13, 2012 at 12:51 pm

Congrats on the Brooks gig! That’s awesome! I’ve never tried their shoes but I do enjoy their Run Happy campaign.

14 Army Amy* June 13, 2012 at 12:56 pm

My dad lives near Tampa, so I have used that airport a few times. I agree, it’s a good one! Have a safe trip!*

15 Lindsay @ Running the Windy City June 13, 2012 at 1:11 pm

That is SO exciting! I think I’ve owned about 10 pairs of the adrenaline line in the past 3 years. I love Brooks!

16 Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness June 13, 2012 at 1:58 pm

I love that dress so cute and comfy! Checking out 5 bamboo right now!

17 Lizz @ Leading the Good Life June 13, 2012 at 2:06 pm

Um…is your name spelled wrong on your boarding pass?? Did it still work? That is one of my biggest fears!!

18 Meghann June 13, 2012 at 2:09 pm

They just left an N off. :) No one said anything, so I’m assuming the missing “N” wasn’t a big deal. :)

19 Cait's Plate June 13, 2012 at 2:19 pm

So exciting! I LOVE Brooks and their “Run Happy” motto!

20 CampingGirl June 13, 2012 at 2:29 pm

Congrats on the Brooks partnership and I totally agree on your jeans comment… I find them so uncomfortable.

21 Hope @ With A Side Of Hope June 13, 2012 at 2:43 pm

So exciting! Have a great time! :)

22 Angela June 13, 2012 at 2:50 pm

Have fun in NYC! Congratulations on the Brooks partnership!

23 Jen Correa @ Mom's Gotta Run June 13, 2012 at 3:20 pm

Maybe Ill see you in NYC> :)

24 Katherine June 13, 2012 at 4:13 pm

Please wear a bra

25 Meghann June 13, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Thank you for the comment, but I can assure that I am wearing a bra. I’ll admit the way the fabric pulls around the chest is a bit off, but I am indeed wearing a strapless bra today.

26 Liz June 13, 2012 at 4:45 pm

Then please get fitted for a strapless bra that actually fits and works. Normally clothes look great on you, but the bra you have on, coupled with that dress, are not doing you any favors.

27 Nina June 13, 2012 at 4:52 pm

Hah, I live in College Park and almost always leave my house an hour before boarding and have lots of time to spare!

28 Veronica June 13, 2012 at 5:15 pm

Not to be rude, but that is literally the most unflattering thing you’ve ever worn. Yikes.

29 Leah June 13, 2012 at 5:48 pm

Truth. :/

30 JessicaE June 13, 2012 at 9:28 pm

Its incredibly unfortunate that so many people seem to be obsessed with looks and fashion. Its inside that counts. If she’s comfy, who really cares if it looks *amazing*.

31 Veronica June 14, 2012 at 9:12 am

It’s incredibly unfortunate that meghann apparently doesn’t have anyone in her life to tell her when something is unflattering on her. It’s not being mean, or rude, it’s being honest. If I were wearing something and it looked not so great on me, please, tell me!

32 Mizzy June 14, 2012 at 10:36 am

It’s unfortunate that there are people who would rather be surrounded by “yes people” who lie and tell them how great they look, rather than be surrounded by honest friends. There is something to be said for being able to hear criticism or not-so-positive feedback every once in a while.

33 JessicaE June 15, 2012 at 3:42 pm

I agree completely… everyone needs bluntly honest people like that. That wasn’t my point, though. My point was that it doesn’t always matter how people look on the outside. There are more important things. In my opinion there is way too much emphasis on looking good and fashionable and pretty all the time.

34 Erin June 13, 2012 at 11:06 pm

You had a great body, but that dress is very unflattering. I suggest donating it to Goodwill.

35 Kim @ Living, Laughing & Losing June 13, 2012 at 6:45 pm

How exciting! I love Brooks! :)

36 Krystle June 13, 2012 at 11:19 pm

There are so many positive aspects of this post to comment on(congrats on Brooks and enjoy NY by the way!!)and I find it incredibly sad and rude that some people chose to focus on a persons apperance and outfit ( i think that dress is cute and stylish considering your traveling!) rather than the personality and story behind the materialistic stuff. I guess their grandmas never told them “if you don’t have anything nice to say, than don’t say anything at all”!

37 LizP June 14, 2012 at 9:56 am

I’m sorry I’m going to have to disagree. If a blogger posts a picture of herself in a dress and specifically call attention to it, then why can’t we comment on it?

You wouldn’t be rushing in to defend her and comment on how sad other people were to ‘focus on a person’s appearance and outfit’ if everyone was saying how wonderful she looked!

Also, overall the commentary was pretty respectful, not nasty. “You have a great body but that dress is not flattering” is a whole lot better than “Why are your boobs hanging so low? That does not look normal!”
