It’s Kelly’s Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Kelly!!!!!

My little sister is 25 today! Now, when did she go and get all grown up?

IMG_3242.JPG

24 was a big year for Kelly – she got engaged, earned her masters in anthropology, became a teacher, completed her first half ironman, PRed at the Flying Pig Marathon, and planned her wedding. BUT 25 is looking to be even bigger with even more exciting events, goals, and challenges in the near future.

Happy Birthday, Lil Sis! Here’s to the start of your mid-twenties and all the adventures that lie ahead. :)

We may be getting older, but we can still rock the races with the best of them. ;)

I’m still recovering from my “marathon hobble.” Getting out of bed was easier than yesterday, but I’m still not ready to run. I may give it a try on Thursday, until then walking works just fine for me. Maddie and I went for a little walk around the neighborhood and I was happy with just that.

I was really craving a nice and easy yoga class for today, but the earliest yoga class my studio offered started at 9:30am – a little too late for me. In the end, that was probably a good thing. I downloaded Yoga for Runners from YogaDownload.com and found myself really needing to push myself to get through the 20 minute podcast. My muscles were all super tight and the idea of touching my toes or even staying in rag doll position for very long was torture. The podcast concentrates on hip openers and leg stretches – all stuff my body needed this morning, but also stuff that my body wasn’t particularly happy with. It’s weird to think that two days ago I was running a full marathon and today I was struggling to get through 20 minutes of yoga. I know recovery doesn’t happen overnight, but I’ll get there. :)

After my yoga podcast, I had a bowl of cereal for breakfast.

I bit the bullet last night and finally downloaded “50 Shades of Grey.” The trilogy has been dubbed nothing more than “soft-core porn for women” which, I’ll admit, had me intrigued (especially after reading MomJovi’s review). It’s a quick read (I’m already a good chunk of the way through after one night), but it still hasn’t hooked me in just yet. Maybe I just need to get to the “good stuff.” ;) We’ll see.

Have you read “50 Shades of Grey”? What were your thoughts?

Happy Birthday to Kelly! You earned the right to hobble around for a few days, so rock that wobbly walk!

I have some SERIOUS issues with the book; I’ll spare everyone here the diatribe, but here’s a link to my post on it if you want to hear me vent http://bookishlyboisterous.blogspot.com/2012/03/why-50-shades-of-gray-is-bad-idea.html . I get fiesty, I can’t help it.

Have you ever thought of doing one of the dog races with Maddie?

I’ve run one 5k with her and would love to do a specific dog race with her because I know she would win her weight division. The timing just never seems to work out and dog races aren’t as readily advertised. I would love to put her in one though!

And thanks for the link, i’ve heard mixed reviews on the book, so it’s good to get everyone’s opinions.

Kelly looks so much like your mom!

I’ve read the entire 50 shades trilogy. I think each book is better than the last – the first book is especially, um, sexual, but the next two actually have quite a bit of plot. Stick with it!

Happy Bday to Kelly!

I have that book downloaded as well. I haven’t started it yet, but last night J told me that libraries are starting to ban it!

Aside from them being the most poorly written and rage-inducing books I’ve ever read (why does everyone murmur all the time?!), they do hook you in. Somehow. I don’t know. Read this, this girl gets it: http://50shadesofsuck.tumblr.com/

I wanted to add that the actual story does get somewhat better with the second and third books, although it doesn’t become any less irritating. I like referring to it as my MP (Mom Porn).

I loved the 50 Shades series. I actually read all three books twice is a row. The books definitely get better as you go along, the third was my favorite!

Happy birthday to Kelly! I haven’t heard of those books at all – lately I’ve been getting back into Jasper Fforde’s ‘Thursday Next’ series, which I love!

Happy birthday to Kelly!

I read a few chapters of 50 Shades of Gray in the bookstore, but I didn’t see how it was any different from any other lame romance novel. Call me a book snob!

I can’t bring myself to read it just yet because it’s fan fiction of Twilight. Basically just a poorly written rewrite of a less poorly written book with a ton of sex. Kinda disturbing…

Just finished the first one for my book club. I would say less than stellar writing and a whole lot of sex, and even more questioning why a woman would sign on for what happens. However, I finished it. And will probably read the next one.

Happy birthday, Kelly! I’m a May birthday, too, and coincidentally turn 25 tomorrow! You certainly had an amazing year and have a lot to look forward to in the one to come. :)

Also, Meghann – I’m reading 50 Shades right now. All I have to say is thank you for linking to MomJovi’s review. Hilarious and SO spot on. Though I admit it has sucked me in and I am probably going to finish it tonight (started it on Sunday). Not sure if I will read all three in a row or not – I might “spice things up” and throw something else in between. ;)
