Just Gel With It

by Meghann on February 21, 2012

I need to rewind for a minute.

Remember our day of pampering the bride on Friday?

Screen shot 2012-02-21 at 10.01.19 PM.png

Well, we were in a bit of a rush on Friday, so I wasn’t able to go into too many details, but I wanted to share a couple now.

Like… how starting the day with massages was one of the best ideas our bride had.

If you’re in Titusville – and looking to treat yourself to a reasonably priced massage – I highly suggest checking out HealthQuest on Garden Street. They do great work there.

Or …that getting your toes done is fun no matter what the situation.

Getting your hands done is fun too. πŸ˜‰

I rarely have my nails painted, but when I heard they had gel nail polish – I was sold. It’s a little pricier than a traditional manicure (and it’s a little more tedious of an application process), but it doesn’t chip for up to three weeks and it’s instantly dry when you’re finished. The gel polish isn’t anything new – just new to me. πŸ™‚

I decided to go with the french tip for wedding weekend and loved the results. And they were right – no chips!

Here’s the gel manicure on Friday…

And here it is today (Tuesday)….

Still no chips! If this was normal nail polish, I would have chipped half of it off by now. This stuff is impressive. Too bad it wasn’t around when I was in high school and french tips were all the rage. Was that an every high schooler thing or just my high school thing?

Catching back up to today…

Lunch was a great plate of leftovers.

My snack was a container of applesauce topped with walnuts, almonds, and Chocolate Sommersaults.

Dinner was a random mix of green beans, acorn squash, red onion, chickpeas, cheese, and a biscuit.

(Derek was at his brother’s for dinner + I didn’t get home until late = quick, random meal)

I dug into my candy-bar favor for dessert.

Edible favors = GENIUS

Oh! AND I have a fun announcement to make….

Thanks to FitFluential and RunDisney, I’ll be running Disney Princess Half Marathon with a few of my favorite bloggers this weekend. (yippee!!!)

It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE Disney fanatic, so I’m extra excited about this amazing opportunity.

Screen shot 2011-03-02 at 9.24.17 AM.png

So excited that I spent 45 minutes in JoAnn Fabrics this evening purchasing costume supplies.

Any guesses what those pieces of fabric will become?!?! πŸ˜‰

If you’re heading to the Princess Half this weekend as well, check out the meet-up Heather is organizing on Saturday. I hope to see you there!

I am obsessed with gel manicures! I got one last year for my birthday & have been getting them every other week since. It’s truly amazing how they don’t chip!

Your nails are beautiful! I got a gel manicure one time and I really liked it. It’s not hard to take off yourself either. Just be sure to soak your nails in pure acetone. It should come off with no problem! Plus it saves you the money and trip of going back to the salon.

So fun about the race! Are you going to be Belle?! πŸ™‚

You don’t have to use acetone. The salon I go to uses regular nail polish remover ~ they put a lil on a cotton ball ~ then put it on your nail ~ then wrap a lil piece of foil around your nail and cotton ball. Let it set for about a minute ~ and it scrapes right off =)

13 Meghann February 22, 2012 at 8:40 am

That’s actually the method the salon told me on how to take the gel off πŸ™‚

14 Emily February 22, 2012 at 8:17 am

I think now that you have pretty nails is a good time for a few hand holding/show-off-the-ring engagement pictures! (That’s what I did with mine… had my nails done!)

15 Kristin @ FoodFash February 22, 2012 at 8:22 am

Everyone deserves a little pampering now and then! You’ll have to give us a status of your manicure next week too πŸ™‚

BELLE!!! My favorite disney character!!!

18 Anna February 22, 2012 at 9:19 am

I had my first gel manicure experience when I was in my best friend’s wedding. Never heard of it, but LOVED it after my french manicure stayed in tack for a month! Once I found places around where I live that provide them, I’ve become hooked and will never go back to acrylic nails again!

Good luck at Disney!

I’ve actually been dying to try the gel manicure! I can’t even imagine how great it would be to not have to deal with chipping nails 4 days after a manicure (or really, 3 minutes after because I always inevitably ruin at least one nail right away)

I was really interested in getting a gel manicure until I read an article in Good Housekeeping this month that said it’s not great for your nails. πŸ™

I tried to find the link on the magazine’s website to share with you, but it’s not posted yet. You should check out the article in the magazine.

I’d like to see the link …..just for curiosity. With shellac/gel nails, they don’t have to “rough up” your nail bed, so no damage done (to mine anyway). My nails grow so fast with them on, unlike when I had acrylics.

24 Nancy February 22, 2012 at 9:50 am

I love gel manicures! I used to never get my nails done nor paint them often because the second they chipped (the day of or after I paint them) I would get annoyed. But now I get the gel manicures and they last so long, I love it! The only thing about it is you kind of feel the need to stick to that one color for 2+ weeks. But I stick with something neutral.
