Extra Creamy

by Meghann on January 23, 2012

Today’s latte at the Felicitous Coffee Shop was extra good today.

Do you know why? The barista accidentally used whole milk instead of my normal non-fat request in my order. It wasn’t until I commented on the extra yummy creaminess, that she confessed the error. Her bad was my special treat. Yum. :)

My latte was paired with a little container of mixed nuts and dried fruit that I nibbled on while working at the coffee house.

Last night i picked up some pre-made chicken burgers from Whole Foods on my way home for dinner. The plan was to make them last night while watching the game, but the boy ditched me for his brother’s tv (totally understandable), so the burgers were pushed to tonight.

I brought home a fiesta themed chicken burger and a buffalo chicken burger. I loved how easy it was just to take it out of the packaging and right on the George Foreman grill.

Before I started the burgers, I cut up a sweet potato and regular potato and seasoned them with a blended spice and salt and pepper. Since I had the time, I took the slow roast approach by baking them for an hour at 350, then another 10 minutes at 400 for a nice crispy coat with a mushy enter.

The final product.

I took the buffalo chicken patty since it was the smallest and topped it with more buffalo sauce while getting a little crazy with the bottle of blue cheese dressing. I wish i could say these burgers wowed me, but they didn’t. They were both flavorless and a little dry. I would have been better just prepping the meat and jazzing up a burger on it’s own.

The potatoes were perfection with some ketchup. I’m usually too impatient to go the slow roasting route, but when you have the time you can really taste and enjoy the difference. ;)

Some steam fresh lima beans for a little green.

Espresso chip frozen yogurt for dessert.

It’s a Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game kind of night.

Good Night!

Are high school reunions dead?

by Meghann on January 23, 2012

Lunch time!

Last night’s leftover bbq tofu made for the perfect filler for my sandwich today. Just throw in some arugula, blue cheese, and press between two pieces of honey oat bread in the George Foreman and an easy tofu panini is served.

Served with fresh green beans (for crunch!)

Enjoyed outside in the sunshine. :)

Are high school reunions dead?

I’m of a rare breed – I remember going to my parents’ 10 year high school reunion way back in 1992. I was 7 and it was held at a park. I remember playing with other kids, meeting people I don’t remember, and having my face painted. It was a big family friendly party that was complete with 90s style permed hair, stone washed jeans, and tank tops that had the early 90s Pepsi logo on them.

I even remember my parents’ 20th high school reunion. I was 17 and had to miss it because I was away at cheer camp, but I remember going through the ‘where are they now’ booklet they handed out at the reunion with my mom and comparing the photos from the booklet to the ones in my mom’s twenty year old high school yearbook.

(p.s. have you ever read the messages your parents’ friends left them in their yearbooks? let’s just say it’s a fun way to learn what your parents were really like in high school. ;) )

In 1992 – and even in 2002 – high school reunions were a great way to play catch up. My parents’ reunions were both big events. They had whole weekends dedicated to reunion activities that included a formal Friday night adults-only party and a Saturday family-friendly picnic in the park. There was over a 50% turnout for graduates and people really went not knowing much about what everyone else had been up to.

But now? Well, now there’s Facebook.

Derek’s 10 year reunion is coming up this year and mine follows the year after (class of 2003, baby!). When we were at Universal this weekend, his mom asked if there were any plans for a reunion this summer or in the near future. He sort of shrugged and said there wasn’t. A class of 2002 Facebook group had been created, but an actual reunion hadn’t been planned. To the best of his knowledge, the majority of the people sort of played catch up already on the group page (or are already friends via Facebook and have been stalking each other for the last 10 years anyways) and the consensus was they would all meet at a certain bar at a certain time and call that their reunion.

I guess Facebook sort of alleviated the need for reunions (for the most part) because everyone already knows what everyone else is up to without having to all get together in a big group. I’m not sure I 100% agree with this philosophy because, as much as I love stalking old high school friends on Facebook, I’m sure nothing beats getting together for a big party 10 years after graduating and just celebrating that we’ve survived this long in the ‘real world.’

I have no idea what’s going on with my future class reunion (anyone out there who reads this blog know?!), but I hope one actually happens. If anything, it’s just a way to set a date and time for everyone to get together and see each other. It’s an excuse to see my old high school friends that I don’t get to see anymore – no matter how many times I tell them that I miss them via Facebook! ;)

Did your class have a 10 year high school reunion? Did you attend? Or will you attend one when the time comes?

Walk and Read

January 23, 2012

Goooooooood Mooorrrrnnniiinnggg! Did you have a great weekend? I ran 11 miles with the sunrise, saw a new venue, went to universal, and turned really lazy, so I’d say my weekend wasn’t half bad. I actually prefers weekend like that – one crazy busy adventure day followed by one super lazy enjoy-the-moment day – it’s more ยป
