Number Crunch

by Meghann on January 31, 2012

My head hurts.

Derek and I just came from a meeting with the folks at Cross Creek and the numbers weren’t pretty. Not pretty at all.

The numbers we saw today included everything from the DJ to flowers to cake to decorations to food. Which is great that they were all included, but the total was more than my planned budget and still didn’t cover dress, rings, photographer, or invitations, which could all easily run a couple thousand more. We reviewed a couple of different scenarios and what it really comes down to is cutting our guest lists (our Moms are going to love us), serving really, really cheap food (Cuban rice and beans for everyone!), and just plain sucking it up and adding more money to the budget.

We had a long talk on the way home about how much we realistically want to spend on this wedding. Both of us want to relax on our wedding day and have everything taken care of, but we’re not sure how far in debt we want to go over it, so I’m not sure how much that budget is going to move.

There’s still the option of Birdsong Barn in Titusville, which would be considerably cheaper, but a lot more work and there’s still the constant worry of weather. I keep referring to the possibility of ‘Disney marathon weather’ and what our plan would be for that. So far I’ve just been promised lots of heaters and blankets. Of course we could luck out with weather like tonight (clear skies and a current temp of 72) and be fine. Ahhhhh…. I hate the unknowns!

We’re going to continue talking it over through the weekend and I’m going to continue crunching the numbers. I’m also going to price out a couple of more venues in the area. A couple that I have priced out were a little high for my budget, but another one has some possibility, but would again be completely from scratch. We’ll see.

This afternoon I had a mini bowl of yogurt with muesli, peanut butter, and strawberries as an afternoon snack.

Our meeting with Cross Creek was at 7:30 and I didn’t give myself time to eat before hand. Big mistake. My stomach was loudly growling through the appointment and I just about ate the entire fridge when we finally made it back home at 9:00.

I began eating mushrooms, broccoli, and pieces of pasta as I threw together a dinner of leftover pasta with a scrambled egg, broccoli, and mushrooms mixed in.

A much needed chocolate chip cookie for dessert.

And now I need to pack.

Good Night.

A New Race Book

by Meghann on January 31, 2012

It’s here! It’s here!

IMG_6749.JPG

My 2011 Race Book has arrived!

IMG_6765.JPG

I created my first race book for my 2009 races when I was looking for a way to organize my over-flowing bulletin board of race bibs. I loved the 2009 one so much, that I couldn’t wait to create one for 2010 or 2011 when the time came.

IMG_6769.JPG

I love them and now look forward to creating the books each year. I have three years of race memories all tucked away in three coffee table books that are fun to flip through when ever I need to feel inspired.

IMG_6772.JPG

All three books were created using the iPhoto program that came with my MacBook. If you have a Mac and are looking to create a calendar, memory book, or any other photo project – I suggest creating them all directly through iPhoto. It’s a little pricier than other online photo programs, but the ease of use (drag and drop with no need to upload or download) and high quality final product make the extra $$ worth it.

Every other page is dedicated to a particular race with the date, race, and finish time on the bottom.

IMG_6740.JPG

And the opposite page is intentionally left blank for the race bib.

IMG_6727.JPG

Speaking of race bibs, here they are.

IMG_6714.JPG

As I collect them through the year, they’ll hang in a nice neat row on the bulletin in the office. When the book arrived, I took them down and prepared the space for the new round of bibs for 2012.

Am I the only one who leaves the safety pins on the bib after I’m done? It’s a bad habit.

IMG_6723.JPG

Once all the safety pins were removed…

I got out the double sided tape

IMG_6732.JPG

And got to work.

IMG_6734.JPG

Done.

IMG_6736.JPG

awww… memories!

IMG_6757.JPG

From local mud bashes, to fancy half marathons – they’re all in here.

IMG_6761.JPG

I have a scrapbook for every semester in college, every birthday party in high school, every family vacation, summer camp, etc. These race books are my tech-savvy modern versions of those scrapbooks, only without all the crazy work and I bet these wound up being a little cheaper too. (Scrapbooking is a very time consuming and $$$ hobby!)

IMG_6783.JPG

Plus, they’re not as bulky and sit nice on the shelf or under the coffee table. :)

Now that I have a system in place on what to do with my race bibs every year, I need to figure out what to do with my medal problem.

IMG_6712.JPG

I have a medal hanger, but they’re spreading! I even went through and put away some of the medals for smaller races or race repeats. I think I just need to find another medal holder that’s a little larger and can accommodate more medals.

Or I can start moving mine over to Derek’s holder.

IMG_6713.JPG

Do you think he would notice? ;)

I don’t want to stuff them all in a box, but maybe there’s away to place them in a book or something. Hmmmm….

My lunch today was extra cheesy.

IMG_6706.JPG

That’s three kinds of cheese (parmesan, blue cheese, and provolone) grilled in an onion roll with fresh dill and hummus.

IMG_6692.JPG

The fresh dill was a welcome treat. It gave the sandwich an extra flavorful kick and stopped the sandwich from being too cheesy to just right.

IMG_6695.JPG

On the side I have left over lima beans

IMG_6698.JPG

and carrots

After seeing YoungHouseLove post the other day about their family ‘Yearbooks’ I’m attempted to create similar photo books for Derek and I that are full of our travel adventures. We seem to travel a lot and it would be fun to have a whole year’s worth of adventures in one large year-end book, instead of several small ones.

Are you a photobook junkie? What have you created them for?

A Clean Deal

January 30, 2012

I’ve taken advantage of group food deals, fitness deals, and travels deals, but I think I just discovered the group deal that trumps them all – house cleaning deals. Come to mama! It’s no secret that Derek and I are not the tidiest couple of the block. Not even close. Before I met Derek, I more »
