Toasting The Future Mrs. Anderson

by Meghann on December 18, 2011

Five years ago my little brother met a girl.

That girl became his girlfriend…

Then his fiance…

And, in exactly two months from today, she will become his wife. :)

Today we came together to celebrate the ‘Future Mrs. Anderson’ and the many years of happiness that lie ahead for her and my brother.

The best part is, my little brother isn’t just gaining a wife, but I’m also gaining another sister.

Sisters unite! ;)

But, let’s back up.

My morning began with an early drive to Titusville and brunch with an old high school friend at one of the very few establishments opened on Sunday in Titusville – Pumpernickel’s (this town is a ghost town past 9pm or on Sundays).

Just for fun – Allison and I back in 2002. This photo was taken just seconds after everyone yelled ‘Surprise!’ at the surprise party I threw her for her 18th birthday.

And here we were today.

Crazy to think the top photo was almost 10 years ago! Where does the time go?

Allison and I met at JV cheerleading camp back in 2000 and remained inseparable through high school and the majority of college. Unfortunately we’re not as great as keeping in touch as we used to be, so it was nice to play catch up. Hopefully there will be plenty more catch-up sessions in the near future. :)

We played the ‘who do we know from high school that’s pregnant/married/gone crazy/came out of the closet’ game while dining on oatmeal and eggs.

Good times. :)

Ashley’s bridal shower was hosted by her Maid of Honor, Amanda, at her parents’ beautiful house by the river. The setting was a little on the cool side, but absolutely GORGEOUS! Amanda did a wonderful job organizing everything.

Kelly and I arrived a couple of hours early and helped with what we could.

See those mini sandwiches? Oh yeah, totally mine and Kelly’s handiwork. ;)

Amanda started us off with a champagne toast to the bride.

Then it was time to EAT! So much yummy food, I kept going back for more pretzel crisps and hummus. I <3 hummus!

Game time!

We played two games. One with who knew the bride best (her mom won <- cheater! ;) ) and the next with how well the bride knew the groom (umm… only 6 out of 13 questions right?! Come on, Ashley! To be fair, they were pretty hard questions! One of them was along the lines of ‘What was Ben’s fastest marathon time?’ I didn’t even know the answer to that.)

Cake.. err... Cupcake time!

Ashley and Ben plan to go the non-traditional route with a stand of cupcakes rather than tiers of wedding cake for their reception. Her very talented friend Melissa will be baking the cupcakes for the wedding day and we were lucky enough to have a sneak peek of just how talented she is at the shower.

Not only were the cupcakes gorgeous, but they tasted amazing as well. Fresh vanilla cake topped with a dark fudgy icing. Delicious. :)

We moved inside for presents.

What do you think? Potential cake topper? ;)

I’d been DYING to tell/show Ashley her gift ever since I ordered it a couple of months ago. I’m awful at keeping secrets (actually, my whole family is), so I’m surprised I made it all the way to the shower before spilling the beans!

It’s. A. Hanger!

Looks more exciting than it sounds, right? I ordered it from this seller on Etsy thanks to a recommendation from a friend. If you’re looking for a personalized gift for an upcoming shower, I second the recommendation. The seller was a dream to work with and had the hanger to me in plenty of time before the shower. Now Ashley has something pretty to hang her dress on for the big day. :)

My sister also found this great day-of sweatshirt on Etsy. Etsy is THE place for fun gifts. ;)

Kelly and I took our bridesmaids duties very seriously. She tracked the gifts, while I stabled the bows to a plate for Ashley’s rehearsal bouquet.

Here comes the bride…

How does the saying go? Every ribbon you break at your bridal shower is how many children you have in the future? Ashley didn’t break any, so she ‘cheated’ and went back to cut two just in case. ;)

The party was a great success! :) I know bridal showers can be cheesy, but I’m a big cheeseball who eats this stuff up! Bring. It. On. ;)

Bride + her bridesmaids!

The whole gang! (minus a few that had to leave early)

Psst….. See the dress I’m wearing? It’s the new Holiday Dress from Five Bamboo and it was ridiculously comfy and warm to wear. Like what you see? Come back Tuesday and I may or may not have one to giveaway. ;)

The drive home to Tampa was late and full of very loud music and horrible singing (mine, not the radio’s.)

Dinner was a small plate of apple, carrots, peanut butter, and cashews.

I must have snacked more than I realized at the shower because even then plate was too much. I ate half before putting the rest away. My belly was full.

And now my belly’s ready for bed.

Good Night!!

That dress is super cute.

Also, I think your hair looks adorable like that.

3 Christine @ BookishlyB December 18, 2011 at 10:55 pm

You’re next, right? I’m sure you never get sick of being bugged about that one ;)

I love that hanger! My best friend had that at her wedding in October and it made for awesome pictures with the dress hanging on it. I wish etsy was around when I got married!

5 Kate December 18, 2011 at 11:18 pm

I’ve never been to a bridal shower before, but that hanger is a cute idea. Also- that dress is really cute! I’ll definitely enter the giveaway because 74 bucks is about three times as much as I would ever spend on a dress :)

Aw how fun!!!! Bridal showers are so much fun (even though I’ve only been to one!).

I also LOVE that hanger! How cute and personal!

I love the gift you gave your future-sister-in-law. And I’m jealous that you have a FSIL! my brother needs to pop the question to his GF, stat!*

What a great, exciting day! We had cupcakes at our wedding, too. They were a hit!

10 Cait @ Beyond Bananas December 19, 2011 at 6:18 am

Yay bridal showers!! Makes me excited for mine even though it isn’t even scheduled yet. I am ordering one of those hangers though, for sure! I’ve been eyeing them for months!

you really think the BEST part about your brother getting married is YOU getting another sister? i hope you’re kidding, because that is extremely selfish. it’s your brothers day, not yours.

12 Meghann December 19, 2011 at 7:57 am

I was obviously joking! :) I’m extremely happy for my brother and Ashley. It’s their big day! My whole family is excited to be adding a new member and Ashley already feels like a sister to me.

Ashley had a lovely shower! I think everything looked great! :) I am in love with the hanger idea! I’m definitely planning on getting one for myself to hang my wedding dress on. It makes for great pictures!

14 Heather @ Run Eat Play December 19, 2011 at 8:57 am

I love bridal and baby showers! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. It’s always nice to gain a family member!

15 Heather December 19, 2011 at 8:59 am

crazy story but I was just in a wedding and someone gave the bride that same hanger thing and said they got it off etsy! we all thought it was so cool, then I come on here and read about it. If this is the same seller she is getting mighty popular!

16 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife December 19, 2011 at 9:00 am

How fun!!! Love the dress–very cute!

17 Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups December 19, 2011 at 9:16 am

Looks like a beautiful shower! I’m doing cupcakes for my wedding reception as well. I love the idea of everyone getting their own!

18 Alaina December 19, 2011 at 9:39 am

I love your dress! I need to check out Five Bamboo’s website. :-)

The date of your brother’s wedding is my in-law’s anniversary! Looks like a beautiful shower! I was so excited to be gaining 3 sisters and 2 brothers when I married my husband (I’m an only child).

19 Katy Widrick December 19, 2011 at 9:39 am

I love your family. You guys always make me wish I had a sister. My brother’s getting married next year, so I guess I’m getting one!

20 Lena @Fit on the Rocks December 19, 2011 at 9:56 am

How sweet! I wish I had known about those hangers before my friend got married. She could have used a pretty hanger for her dress.

21 Melissa @TryingtoHeal December 19, 2011 at 10:49 am

Ah, the shower looks great! We’re throwing my college roomie a surprise bridal party in a few months so I’m excited for that!

22 Allison December 19, 2011 at 11:19 am

Family, friends, food, a beautiful setting, and a great reason to celebrate sounds like a fabulously-filled day :D

23 Abby December 19, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Oh my goodness, I wanted one of those hangers *so badly* when I got married last summer. Hmm… I guess I could always order one now lol

24 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats December 19, 2011 at 9:18 pm

I love bridal showers! I can’t wait until my friends all start getting married! My brother got married this past June and it was so fun to throw the shower for my future sister-in-law, although warning: the gift opening at the bachelorette party is super awkward for the groom’s sister… I wanted to cover my eyes.
