All Good Things Must Come to an End

by Meghann on October 13, 2011

After five relaxing nights aboard the Carnival Inspiration, it was time to say good-bye to blue seas, unlimited meals, and two hour long afternoon naps.

IMG_4364.JPG

It was fun cruise! Until we meet again!

Le sigh.

I’ll do a full review on my final cruise thoughts sometime tomorrow or next week. After spending an hour talking to my sister, I realized I have a lot to say on the subject. The cruise was just what Derek and I needed and I’m happy to return home feeling very relaxed and well rested. Loved it.

Unfortunately, my last night aboard the ship was a little restless. I caught a cold the final night that made it hard to breathe while I slept. I woke up multiple times during the night, constantly throwing the covers on and off as I went from freezing one minute to sweating the next. Not cool.

All I can say is I’m glad the cold came on the last night and not the first. That would have been very uncool. Blah.

Breakfast helped.

IMG_4540.JPG

My very last meal aboard the Carnival Inspiration was a bowl of oatmeal with raisins, nuts, blueberry compote, and peanut butter. The perfect ‘I feel sick’ comfort food.

IMG_4543.JPG

Along with some grapefruit and a carrot muffin.

IMG_4542.JPG

And more fruit (gotta get some vitamin c in there!)

IMG_4541.JPG

Debarkation went really smoothly. Derek and I were able to wait in our room until our number was called and were in and out of customs with no problems. The whole process probably took 10-15 minutes tops.

The best part was that – since we sailed out of Tampa – Derek’s brother was able to pick us up from the port and take us right home. We saved money on both gas and parking; and Derek’s brother got a nice bottle of rum out of the deal.

We decided to stay in ‘vacation mode’ since Derek has the rest of the week off work. Let’s call it our vacation from our vacation. ;) We came home, started unpacking, and began to catch up on our 99% full DVR. We went from laying by the pool to laying on our couches in 12 hours or less. ;)

When lunchtime rolled around I realized we had zero food in the fridge, but there was a frozen pizza in the freezer.

IMG_4545.JPG

Not exactly ‘fancy lunch,’ but it worked. ;)

IMG_4547.JPG

IMG_4548.JPG

Post grocery shopping (and picking Maddie up!!) I had a snack of apple sauce with granola and almond butter.

IMG_4554.JPG

For dinner, I baked my first spaghetti squash of the season.

IMG_4556.JPG

I haven’t made one of these in a year and I forgot how easy and tasty they are. Just cut it in half, roast for 30 minutes at 425, and you are done.

IMG_4559.JPG

I shredded the squash and added it to a pan with a can of black beans, diced tomatoes, and lots of shredded cheese. The end result was a quick mexican themed take on spaghetti.

IMG_4561.JPG

Yum.

Only one dessert this evening. Dark chocolate.

IMG_4571.JPG

No melting chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream? Man, vacation really is over!

I’m also still dreaming of the unlimited rolls and multiple courses. Dining in my kitchen just isn’t the same.

What do you always miss when you return from vacation? I miss having someone else clean my room and make my bed. Now, THAT was something I could get used to and never grow tired of!

I’ve been obsessed with squash lately. Spaghetti squash in the slow cooker with some earth balance and sage…mmmm…so so so good! In the oven I drizzle a little evoo on a pan and place it face down.

Glad you had a nice trip…feel better.

I miss the meals that are served during the vacation. We are used to our regular meals and regular diet. The unloading of stress and the atmosphere, I wish vacations won’t last but we need to Work.

She was at a doggie camp while we were away. She could barely keep her eyes open yesterday, she was so worn out when we returned home.

How was that pizza? Andy and I just bought that too, haven’t tried it yet! I feel like we always get the same things at Target, like that Cashew, Almond & Peanut Butter.

THe pizza was ok. I’m not a big fan of their frozen pizza crusts, but it gets the job done in a pinch.

Welcome back! I remember stopping at a restaurant during the drive home from the port of my last cruise, and I almost forgot we had to wait for a check. It was so nice to eat (as much as you want) then carry on!

I always miss the luxury of being able to do whatever I want with my time. Sleep till 10? Workout whenever? Lay by the pool and read a book for a few hours? Ahhh, that’s the life!

I’m so sorry you started to feel sick! Like you said, at least it was the last night and not one of the first. I love the Mexican inspired idea with the spaghetti squash! I’ll have to try that. You can do so many things with that stuff! Coming back from vacation, I always miss the relaxation. It seems like it goes from tons of relaxation to busy, busy, busy, so quickly when you get home! That “free of all worries” feeling definitely goes away when vacation ends – hate that!

what I love about vacation is the freedom. You can do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and you don’t have to make up for it with working more later on! You are completely free to do anything!

We had that pizza last night. It was just ok to me.. A little too much cheese and our crust was really hard. Also the spinach had that canned spinach taste. Did y’all like it?

It was ok. I would say worth the $3.00 (sale+coupon) we paid for it, but not much more.

I’m a weird one – I actually am usually a little happy to come home from vacation. Ok, maybe HAPPY isn’t the right word – but I usually find myself craving my normal routines by the end of whatever trip I’m taking. However, I always miss the feeling that time has sort of stopped when I’m on vacation – no deadlines, no responsibilities…ahhh.

PS. I totally need to get back into spaghetti squash! I never thought to do a Mexican-inspired recipe with it!

It’s always bittersweet coming back home. I miss my animals and everything when I’m home from vacation but being away is just so nice.

The thing I miss the most about vacations is not having a schedule. It’s SO nice to ge3t to do things on your own time.
