A Good Morning

Some mornings it’s hard to get out of bed.

I get up slowly, take my time getting ready, and head to the gym practically kicking and screaming the whole way. Those workouts are still good, but they’re missing that pizazz to make them great.

Other mornings I practically jump out of bed.

I feel refreshed, energized, and it only takes minutes before I’m ready to bound out the door and start my day. Those workouts are the great workouts that leave me motivated and satisfied with my day.

This morning was a jumping out of bed morning. I woke up knowing it was going to be a great workout.

I started in the pool this morning with one of Courtney’s designed workouts.

Test Set Swim Workout

Warm Up

  • 3 x 100 @ 2:30
  • 8 x 50 @ 1:15

Main Set <– focused on time

  • 3 x 100 (average of 1:55)
  • 2 x 200 (average of 4:00)
  • 1 x 500 (10:10)

Cool Down

  • 100 yds <— I was tired!

Total Yards: 2000

Bam! That felt good. ๐Ÿ™‚

Next, the weight room for Workout B of Stage 2 in The New Rules of Lifting for Women.

Workout B is a little different than Workout A in Stage 2. There’s still a great emphasis on the core (which I love), but the workout is longer and the moves are becoming more difficult. Dumbbell prone Cuban snatch? Umm… yeah. Was staring at the image on my phone for a while with that one.

These moves definitely required that I step outside of my comfort zone with free weights. It’s one thing to head to the free weight section and stay in my tiny little corner with my weights, but having to re-adjust and move equipment around really had me feeling self conscious. The best I could do was pretend like I knew what I was doing and try not to make eye contact with any of the muscle men (or women).

I also really need to figure out what is up with my printer. Let’s just say writing in straight lines isn’t my forte.

Oh well.

Post-gym I dug into a pre-made container of Overnight Oats in a Jar.

Side note: Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter with Honey is the Best. Peanut. Butter. Ever.

In the mix:

  • 1/2 cup Oats
  • Honey Peanut Butter
  • Plain Yogurt
  • Soy Milk
  • Chia Seeds
  • Raisins
  • Cinnamon

On top:

  • Uncle Sam’s Strawberry
  • Fresh Strawberries

Was this a lazy morning or a jumping-out-of-bed morning for you? ๐Ÿ˜‰

My morning was great also! I woke up at around 630 AM and couldnt fall back asleep so I decided to go for a run! Your over night oats in jar looks delicious! I love anything with peanut butter. I’m going to try this soon!

This was a slow morning for me. I knew I had to get in 6 miles outside and I was just dreading it. I pressed snooze twice before finally dragging myself out of bed and making some coffee. I ran and felt better afterwards but still, it was tough actually making myself do it.

This whole weeks’ been a JUMP OUTTA BED LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED kinda week, morning wise. My best friend’s wedding is this week so I’m taking off on Friday, meaning I wanna work as much extra time as possible (translation: Less vacation hours taken).

This was a “I’m injured and praying that when I get out of bed my back will feel better” kind of morning for me, so unfortunately no workout today. And that Cuban Snatch thing sounds crazy, I haven’t paged throug the workouts in stage 2 yet but now I’m a little intimidated!

I was just writing about my lack of morning peppiness on my blog this morning, I try really hard but I’m not an early morning person! If I could wake up at 8 and not have to be at work until like 10 or 11, mornings would be great!

It was a rough morning for me! I’m house/dog sitting and the pups woke me up at 4:30 this morning barking and freaking out, so I never really fell back into a deep sleep!

I actually got up easily this morning.

I am SUPER intimidated by the free weight section of my gym. I’d love to start up with this book but cringe at the thought of being in that section and attempting to move equipment around. I feel like I will look totally lost and have no idea what I’m doing (cuz I don’t!).

I was right in the middle of those two. I woke up right away once my alarm sounded and started getting ready, but by no means was I leaping out of bed to pounce into my workout clothes. I’m still getting used to a.m. workouts, but hopefully I’ll be jumping out of bed soon!

Wow, that oats in a jar looks amazing! ๐Ÿ˜› This morning was a sleepy, tired and sluggishone for me, but I did I wonderful yoga practice – the Body By Bethenny DVD – rather than forcing myself to go to the gym (and a long savasana – yoga nap!) and that combination made me feel fantastic…much much better than I did first thing this morning. have a beautiful day! <3 xyx

I am always so intimidated to do free weights at our university gym. Not because I don’t know what to do, but because there are always so many athletes over there hogging mirror space and the benches.
The next time you make overnight oats you should tell us the measurements of everything you put in. I tried to make them a few times and they turned out really gross ๐Ÿ™‚

It was a lazy-morning feeling when my alarm went off at 4:24am – but I still managed to kick my own butt at the gym! Loved how I felt when I left – that’s for sure.
But I, too, have days where I bound out of bed with energy that’s I have no idea where it came from and other days I want to crawl under the covers and sleep more.

Love those bound-out-of-bed mornings!

Definitely a lazy morning for me. I was out with my boyfriend until almost 2 last night, which made it quite a hard to get up a t 7. ๐Ÿ™‚ It also compelled me to opt for extra sleep over a workout this morning. I’m planning to enjoy the beautiful weather and take a long walk after work.

On another note, good for you for actively stepping out of your comfort zone when it comes to weights. So many women don’t (myself included, at times). While you might feel self-conscious in the weight room, I’m sure you actually look very badass and confident!

That peanut butter sounds delicious! I used to really like this sandwich I would get at the PB&Company in NYC that was their Bee’s Knees honey with banana, grilled. Delish!

I am not sure about the second stage either…I just finished the 4th workout of it. I feel like it is very heavy on the legs (at least Part B). How many lunge type things must I do?! The Cobra Prone whatever is very awkward and I still feel like I’m not doing it right. As long as it works….

For me it was lazy! It is my last day of work before a few days off, so I’m really getting ready to not be at work (and be at the beach).

I feel the same way about the free weight area. A gym I went to years ago, had tons of huge guys grunting and egging each other on. I just could not go over there. It takes a lot of courage to workout in that area.

Does your Maddie likes to sleep in bed with you? My Jack Russel loves sleeping under the covers but in the summer she gets so hot she gets in then out, in then out. She must have woken me up 8 times last night!

Jump out of bed morning for me. For starters I had a great night sleep and woke up 5 minutes before the alarm went off. I made it to the 6am hot yoga class and I could not believe how fast the 90 minutes flew by. For breakfast, I also had the overnight oats: multigrain oats, Fage plain yogurt, vanilla almond milk, sunflower seed butter and strawberries. I feel pumped!

Total jump out of bed morning! I love the Body Pump group classes at my gym, and have made “gym” friends, so I love going to visit with them and get a great workout in at the same time =). AND, I just checked out “The New Rules…Women” from my library b/c of you and your sister’s comments about it. Going to read it through before beginning, but I’d like to change up my workouts a little. I laughed out loud reading your comments about your eyes in the free weights section – I TOTALLY do the same thing!

My favorite class (Body Combat) at 5:30 Wednesday mornings always makes me jump out of bed, sometimes before the alarm goes off. That class makes me feel powerful and great throughout the entire day!

All of your reviews and progress have convinced me…I just ordered the New Rules, and it should be here within a week!

Quick question though about natural peanut butter. I bought a jar that said to store it in the fridge….but when I did, it basically turned rock hard and impossible to spread! Where do you store yours? And if it’s not in the fridge, do you just stir it up each time to mix in the oils?

I’m just starting week 2 of overcoming my fear of the weight side of the gym. What I have learned so far, is that its much easier to just ask a more knowledgeable gym body to your left how to do something, than to fumble along and try to look cool about it. I’ve found the majority of gym goers eager to help and they would rather help you do it right than watch you do it wrong.

Definitely a lazy morning. I don’t know what’s been up with me lately–it’s been SO HARD to get out of bed!

I just started New Rules on Monday. I was super sore today but I’ve now completed workouts 1 and 2 in stage one. It took a lot of reading and re-reading to figure out the schedule. They use numbers and letters in a much too confusing way!
