Congrats Chris and Jenny!

by Meghann on June 26, 2011

We came. We saw. They said I do.

IMG_7926.JPG

Congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs. πŸ™‚

Weddings are always fun. Family friend weddings you get to attend with your whole family are even funner (I know funner isn’t a real word, but it worked here. πŸ˜‰ )

IMG_7805.jpg IMG_7812.jpg IMG_7818.jpg

Jenny and Chris were married at the Cape Canaveral Radisson <– In the exact same ballroom my senior prom was held!

IMG_7828.JPG

Jenny isn’t family, but she might as well be. I’ve known her pretty much my whole life and her whole bridal party was made up of my cousins and the flower girls were all of my cousin’s daughters. It wasn’t an Anderson wedding, but it felt like one.

They’re hitched!

The ceremony was immediately followed by cocktails and Hors d’œuvres.

IMG_7919.JPG

I loved Jenny’s dress/hair/make-up/etc. She looked so classic, regal, and so Jenny. It was perfect.

IMG_7926.JPG

IMG_7939.JPG

Food time!

IMG_0447.JPG

Lots of great veggie options, plus a tiny piece of freshly carved prime rib.

IMG_0446.JPG

I may or may not have dug into my favor for dessert. πŸ˜‰

IMG_0424.JPG IMG_0425.JPG

Ashley and Kelly spent the whole evening brainstorming ideas for their own pending nuptials. Weddings, weddings, everywhere!

IMG_0470.JPG

LOVED the cake! Elegant, simple, and gorgeous. Exactly what I want in a future wedding cake. πŸ™‚

IMG_7903.JPG

IMG_7957.JPG

IMG_7961.JPG

No mess. Rookies.

IMG_7962.JPG IMG_7963.JPG

Not only did the cake look fabulous, but it tasted fabulous too! The red velvet was extra moist and the cream cheese frosting was rich and creamy. I polished off my piece, then ate the icing off of Derek’s. πŸ˜‰

IMG_0457.JPG

IMG_0486.JPG

IMG_0449.jpg IMG_0450.jpg

When it came time to throw the bouquet, Jenny had other plans…

Instead of the traditional toss, she walked over and handed it directly to me!

IMG_0462.JPG

I asked Jenny if this meant I was the last single lady in the room. She said ‘No!’ it just meant I had to be next. Wink to Derek. πŸ˜‰

IMG_0463.JPG

I would like to point out that this is the SECOND time this has happened to me! My cousin Debby did the exact same thing at her wedding in 2007! I about died!

Always a bouquet catcher. Never a bride. Le sigh.

IMG_0464.jpg

Derek and I had a bet on how many times relatives were going to ask us when we were going to tie the knot. I think we both lost count around 4 or 5. πŸ˜‰

We didn’t mind though. It’s always a good laugh to joke about and we’re happy being us for now. πŸ™‚

IMG_0496.JPG

Congrats Chris and Jenny!

Here’s to an eternity of love have happiness! <3 you guys!

I found your blog through (I think) Tina @ CNC’s blog, and I really like your style! I just had to comment on this one, because I totally feel you on the constant questions from family/friends on when you’re getting married (my favorite is when they skip right to “when are you having babies?”). We have a plan and goals, and we’re also happy being us πŸ™‚

Beautiful wedding! And I love your dress and shoes!!

21 jane June 26, 2011 at 11:45 am

your dress is great!! what does Derek have to say about all this wedding talk and about everyone asking you when you are going to get married? i feel like it must be really awkward for him….you talk about getting married on the blog all the time! people ask my bf when he’s going to propose and i get frustrated! they are going to ruin it when he finally does propose πŸ™‚

22 Ashlyn June 26, 2011 at 11:51 am

I couldn’t agree more! You talk about getting married ALL the time! What does Derek think about it? Does he feel pressured to put a ring on it?!

23 Mel June 26, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Same! Oh, it makes me cringe when it feels like people want to stereotype couples who have been together, that the woman is salivating for the rock and the man is dragging his feet. Gender nonsense. Gah!

24 Erin June 26, 2011 at 8:01 pm

I agree! You comment and “wink wink” the topic of wedding all the time. I don’t really believe that BOTH of you are happy just being “us” right now. Don’t pressure it, it’ll happen when it’s ready!

25 Meghann June 26, 2011 at 8:04 pm

We like to joke about it. Honestly, I think my head is just spinning from everyone else’s wedding stuff. I promise when it’s just the two of us, it’s the furthest thing we’re thinking about.

26 M June 26, 2011 at 11:34 pm

I think it’s just because as a reader it seems very sarcastic and
yet at the same time as if you are jonesing for a ring…
I am sure it is meant to be funny and we don’t know you in real life,
but as a reader I do cringe when I read your wry comments on your lack of a ring or if you’ll ever actually marry. It just seems kind of
bitter humour (but I am sure not meant to come off that way!)

I think you guys seems like a really nice couple and it’s none of our beeswax, but it just sort of takes the charm away from it all, plus
I really hate to think a gal has to wait around for a guy to ask her to marry him….sheesh gals, we aren’t in the dark ages anymore!

Anyways Meghann it’s a bit dreadful for us all to comment on this-
hope you take it all with a grain of salt.I am sure you will as you seem a smart cookie to me!!

27 Ellie June 28, 2011 at 12:36 am

I think it’s fun that you joke about it so much. Obviously people are getting married all around you including two sibling weddings so it would probably be awkward NOT to joke about it, which would suggest that you were super anxious about jinxing it or something. I recently moved in with my boyfriend and even the people at the BANK ask us if we just got married or what. It’s a lot of societal pressure! I have always wanted to catch the bouquet at a wedding though – jealous! πŸ™‚

28 diana@mymarblerye June 27, 2011 at 10:02 am

I agree. One time my husband (before the engagement) told me “everytime you ask…I push the engagement back a few months” HAHAHAH.

29 jane June 27, 2011 at 4:25 pm

haha thats so cute! i have stopped hinting at “when the heck is my ring coming!” in hopes that it will speed up the process! πŸ™‚ my bf sounds like your husband…

30 Meghann June 26, 2011 at 8:06 pm

I ask him if he feels pressured, but he always tells me he’s calm as a cucumber.

31 M June 26, 2011 at 11:37 pm

PS I am glad you guys are taking your time-to be honest there are wayyyy too many divorces out there, and it’s nice to see a couple
really enjoy getting to know each other and not feeling they have to
follow a set calendar in life.Sometimes weddings become so materialistic it can be sad.(This wedding looked really fun and joyous which is really refreshing!)

32 Meghann June 26, 2011 at 8:06 pm

Funny story: Jenny and Chris have been together 8 years. They’ve known each other since middle school – didn’t start dating until their 20s and just got married at 32. I think half the joke of handing me the bouquet was she gets how it feels to be pressured

33 jane June 27, 2011 at 8:05 am

ha well that makes sense then!! yes i hope i did not come off mean-i just felt bad for Derek!! yesterday my boyfriend of 3 years and I were hanging out with friends who just got engaged and the boy asked, “so will you guys get married in ny or fl?’ um we arent engaged!

You are a better woman than me! You just seem to take it all in stride, though. Love love love your dress, by the way.

38 Alison @ The Peacock Diaries June 26, 2011 at 12:09 pm

What a beautiful wedding and bride!
Your hair looked super cute, did you do anything to it or is it natural?
I have wavy/sometimes curly hair that I am forever trying to find decent ways to wear it since it tends to be unruly 99% of the time!

60 Meghann June 28, 2011 at 10:42 am

I just let my hair dry naturally with some mousse. When it was dry I teased it, clipped it on each side, then curled the top layer. The whole process took 10 minutes. πŸ™‚

You definitely have a calm head when everyone else around you seems to be getting engaged/married. My boyfriend and I just moved in together this past weekend, but we’ve been getting questions about our future since my first Christmas with his family (5 months in). It was charming at first, but I’ve started to find it harder and harder to take in stride, especially since I swear, something like 10 different couples that we are friends have gotten engaged this year. I feel like we’re not meeting the expectations our friends and families have for us, even if we know that we’re not ready.

So more power to you and Derek for making what you have work on your own terms. πŸ™‚

This is going to sound ridiculous, but I’m actually really jealous that you’ve been to so many weddings before your own/you’ve been able to catch the bouquet a number of times! I was, for some reason, the first of my group of friends to tie the knot, so I never got to participate in that tradition. I kind of wish I could have fought a few other girls to get my hands on a bouquet at some point! Weird…I know…
