Out of Retirement

by Meghann on April 21, 2011

Look what came out of retirement this morning.

I guess that means I made it to the pool.

Even have the swim cap and goggle marks to prove it.

Hawt.

I had to work myself up to the pool. Starting with 15 minutes on the elliptical and a light session with the weights. There’s a reason I haven’t been in the pool since my triathlon last July – I’m just not a fan. I put up with it during triathlon season, but if it weren’t for training, I’m pretty sure I would never go in.

Luckily, the YMCA has a really nice pool and it was a beautiful morning to swim. Eventually I wrked up the nerve and dove in to the (surprisingly) warm water.

The goal of the morning was to reacquaint myself with the water. I did 10 laps freestyle, 5 laps breaststroke, and 10 more laps freestyle. I was slow, but it felt nice to be moving.

Eventually I’m going to start the masters swim program with the Y, but for now those few laps were a work out.

Let the triathlon training begin!

Cereal breakfast!

It was really refreshing after a morning in the pool. 🙂

  • 1/2 cup Kashi Puffs
  • 1/2 cup Kix
  • 1/2 cup Post Great Grains
  • Athenos Honey Yogurt
  • Strawberries

It’s a beautiful morning outside.

Here’s to another great day!

Hi! What kind of bathing suit do you swim in?! I’m interested in learning how to swim, but all I have are my two pieces … And DAMN, that pool looks SO nice.

I’m still trying to work up the nerve to go into the pool at my YMCA. It looks nice, but all of the swimmers in it look intimidating! I’m not a great swimmer!

It is intimidating! The trick is to just jump in and ignore everyone else.

8 Michelle April 21, 2011 at 10:17 am

Public pools kinda gross me out so I tend to stay far far away.

Man, what a great start to your day! A warm outside pool? We’re not going to have that in Atlanta for a while. 🙂

11 Morgan @ Life After Bagels April 21, 2011 at 10:19 am

Last week I got back into the pool for the first time in over a year. Ended up hitting my head on the wall (really hard!) gliding from a back stroke … I’m pretty darn sure I had a mild concussion, but I might go back next week hahaha

Ouch. That’s my worst nightmare and one of the reasons I stay away from the backstroke.

Reading this makes me want to start swimming. It is a workout that I have never really tried and it just sounds so peaceful (but hard too!)

I love how the pool is outdoors.
Outdoor pools, and awesome oranges. Man I wish I lived in Florida.
Is it open year round?

I don’t know if it is or not.

20 Gwen April 21, 2011 at 11:08 am

Question – does Masters Swim Class mean for experienced people or older people? My guess would be that it is a class for seniors! Would be wicked funny if you showed up for it with a bunch of older folks! xo

21 Meghann April 21, 2011 at 2:00 pm

It’s for experienced swimmers. It’s basically a swim training class.

22 Angela April 21, 2011 at 11:15 am

i like the lines on your forehead from the swim cap, its HAWT.

Good job on the swim. I think the hardest part of swimming is getting in the pool. And um, how awesome is it that your pool is outdoors!!

26 Meghann April 21, 2011 at 2:01 pm

I know nothing about pool workouts – I’m such a newbie! But for running – start off slow! You have to walk before you can run afterall 🙂

27 Shannon April 21, 2011 at 12:03 pm
