Project Move & Mix: Curtains Are Up

by Meghann on March 21, 2011

We have curtains! Woo hoo!

A little backstory….

Originally my living room vision included gorgeous dual toned chocolate curtains Molly found through Pollyvore.

Pollyvore linked me to Target where the curtains were a little price heavy at $43 a panel.

Despite the price, I was all set to add them to my cart when I saw this.

Out of stock? Not cool. ๐Ÿ™

Thankfully, a quick Google search turned that frown upside down.

Guess who was able to find them on Amazon for about half the price? This girl!

Lesson learned: always google for other price points before buying anything online. Got it.

However, something stopped me from purchasing right way. I kept the Amazon tab opened in Chrome for weeks (yes, I do that sometimes) waiting until the couches were delivered before officially ordering them.

My mind was pretty set on those curtains – that is – until I was in Homegoods on Saturday and spotted these bad boys.

Why hello everything-I-was-looking-for-in-curtains-for-a-fraction-of-the-price. ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_9782.JPG

A couple of key points here

  • They had the brass rings on the top that I wanted
  • They were chocolate brown
  • They were the special thermal, black out material that Derek had requested (per our compromise for removing the blinds)
  • They were only $19.99 for TWO panels
  • I could easily return them if they didn’t work
  • No shipping required

SOLD!

Obviously, I couldn’t wait to get them up. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yesterday we got to work removing the vertical blinds (which will replace the damaged ones in the second bedroom), figuring out placement, and falling in love with them all over again.

We only hit one tiny snag when we concluded a power drill was needed to screw the brackets in place. A power drill we didn’t own.

IMG_9875.JPG

Good thing someone else does own one. ๐Ÿ™‚

Derek’s Dad came by after work this evening to help us finish the job. Yay Derek’s Dad!

Now the curtains are in place and the room looks a touch more complete.

IMG_9911.JPG

Still missing those couches though.

I envision the chair and a half going under the shelf and the couch up against the wall perpendicular to that.

Just use your imagination. ๐Ÿ˜‰

There’s also the whole matter of art work and decoration, but that will come with time. Right now getting the big things in place first is our main priority.

Dinner…

The boys hung the curtains while I started dinner.

We splurged on a grass-fed, organic ribeye steak at Greenwise yesterday.

It’s no secret that I’m every marketers dream. They were sampling grilled steak near the meat counter and all it took was one bit and all of a sudden I was in the mood for steak. Go figure.

I seasoned the one pound ribeye with salt and pepper then cooked it under the broiler for about 6 minutes on each side. Derek and I split the final product 60/40.

IMG_9892.JPG

Steak was my specialty in college ( I could broil a steak like nobody’s business), but it’s been a while since I’ve had the opportunity and it shows. The steak I selected was very fatty and the medium doneness I was going for was more of a rare. It was still flavorful – just chewy.

IMG_9893.JPG

On the side I had roasted red potatoes with rosemary (my new favorite seasoning)

And steamed green beans.

I finished off the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cookies for dessert.

I had one while working at the coffee shop this afternoon and the other as a base for my strawberry shortcake concoction.

Cookie + Strawberries + Vanilla Yogurt = Yum.

Thanks for all the Strawberry suggestions this morning. I seriously can not wait to give some of them a try.

Alright, time to sleep.

Good night!

The next stop on my coffee house tour of Tampa took me to Buddy Brew Coffee – a little gem near Hyde Park that came highly recommended from fellow Tampa-ian Sarah. First of all – LOVE the logo. How adorable is that doggy face? Buddy Brew is a very chic and modern coffeehouse. They roast more ยป
