Plate of Hearts

I almost forgot all about my heart plates yesterday.

My parents gave me a set of heart plates for Valentine’s Day about two years ago and it only seems appropriate to pull them out for the day of hearts of every year. I’m sure the day after the day of hearts still counts too, right? πŸ˜‰

I move in three weeks. That’s three weeks with very, very limited runs to the grocery store and three weeks of getting creative with my pantry and fridge. It’s also three weeks without ketchup.

This could get interesting. What am I saying? It’s already interesting.

Enter my Sweet Potato with Almond Butter and Pretzel Goldfish.

There was no room for the pretzels on the plate, so I made a last minute decision to add them to the top. It was a fantastic decision. The pretzels gave the combo a salty and crunchy bite.

Ok, I would think after reading your blog all this time, I wouldn’t be shocked at your food combos anymore….but you got me at pretzel goldfish on a sweet potato!

I actually bought PB pretzels at the grocery store the other day after seeing them on your blog for so long. They are a good snack! Pretzels on a sweet potato is a new idea, but kind of along the same line- sweet/salty! Nice!

I love putting crunchy foods on top of softer ones!!! This is a great idea though I am not sure I would have ever thought of it on my own. Almond butter on sweet potatoes make it almost dessert like.

After the first photo I just thought you had really strange looking pinto beans on your sweet tater — now I see they are goldfish. I love salty/sweet combos and just about anything on a sweet potato tastes good!

When I first saw the picture of your meal, I thought those were baked beans. When I read what they were, I was a little “grossed out” but I’m sure it is delicious. I find comfort in reading about some of your food combos.

I have to admit I was a little weirded out by the goldfish on the sweet potato, but I think you are on to something with the salty, sweet, crunchy, soft thing. I also think the plate is adorable!
