I went for a run this morning!
A run! A real run!
It had been exactly a week before my last run and I was starting to get antsy. I guess that’s what happens with addictions – you go a week without said addiction and you start to get antsy in anticipation of your next fix. I was spinning on my heals waiting for mine.
The run was short, but good. I did 4 miles in 36 minutes around my neighborhood and did a little happy dance at the end. π
Derek got me a new Garmin for my birthday and it was nice actually having full use of the ENTER button. The enter button on my old Garmin popped off about 6 months ago and I’ve been running sans the enter function ever since. Now, I can actually review my runs and change settings. Score!
The old Garmin still works (you just can’t press enter), so I’m thinking about selling it for $30. Any takers? π
Sarah from Nuts About Granola (a small granola company started by a mother/daughter team in York, PA) had sent me a couple of samples of their granola to review while I was away.
The Chocolate Mint Cookie was the one that instantly caught my eye.
She wanted me to be honest, so I’m being honest here. The little handful I had straight from the package tasted like I was eating crunchy spearmint gum.
I wasn’t an instant fan, but I wanted to be fair, so I added a 1/4 cup serving to my morning bowl cereal to see if that would numb down the strong straight-from-the-package minty-ness.
- 1/2 cup Rice Krispie Puffs
- 3/4 cup Flax Flakes
- 1/4 cup Nuts About Granola Mint Chocolate Cookie Granola
- Plain Yogurt
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Chia Seeds
Still a little too minty for my taste, but the mix of cereals, fruit, and yogurt did tone it down a bit. π
Today is catch up day.
Adios.
Always nice to get back to a run after some time off! Glad you had fun.
And I’m not sure how I’d feel about a minty breakfast either. Kind of a toothpaste/orange juice combo?

Would buying your garmin be something you would suggest to a new runner who doesn’t want to shell out the $$ for a new until they really into the groove of things? If so, I’d love to buy it!!
Also, I don’t think I could handle mint granola..just doesn’t sound appealing! lol
I would say purchasing the old Garmin is perfect for a newbie. Send me an e-mail at mealsandmiles@gmail.com if you are really interested
What does the Garmin restrict you from doing without the enter button? I would be interested!
Congrats on the run Meghann! The flavour of the granolas sound delicious. I think I’d be immediately drawn to the chocolate mint cookie one too, but the others sound tasty! Have a great day!
Mint Chocolate Cookie Granola? Sounds pretty good! I bet that peanut butter granola that she sent is delicious π
Mint granola would definitely not be my thing. It looks tasty though!

Good job on the run! I did a half marathon on Sunday, so yesterday was a rest day. Very slowly going to swim and run today!
PS- I LOVE minty stuff.. I think I would like it… I appreciate your honest opinion though;)
I’d love to buy your garmin! I’m on a student budget and that would be perfect for me to start running outside. I’m a treadmill girl just because I love being able to look at my stats. Cereal looks yum!
If you’re really interested send me an e-mail at mealsandmiles@gmail.com
Yes please! If you haven’t already sold your garmin, I would love to buy it! I’ve just started running and will be getting married soon so I don’t have the extra cash to buy a new one! π
As of right now it’s still available. Send me an e-mail at mealsandmiles@gmail.com
I don’t know if I would be a fan of the mint granola either. I think the peanut butter one sounds amazing though! π

Is the enter not that big of a deal not having on your garmin? Because if it’s not i would be more then happy to purchase your old Garmin. I’ve been wanting one for the longest time but can’t shell out the money right now, but buying your used one would be amazing!
I’ve survived without the enter button for this long. π It’s really not that important. You can still press start and stop and lap, it’s just difficult to change any other settings. Though using a pen or a really long fingernail has done the trick or me in the past. π
Send me an e-mail at mealsandmiles@gmail.com if you are still interested!
congrats on the run, it’s like a kid in a candy store once you get hooked on running. I like mint chocolate anything, not sure about granola though; looks delish (as always!)
oOoOo a Garmin, I would gladly take take off your hands for that price π I’ve been using my phone to track my mileage, but uhmm it tends to freeze up here and there which gets annoying most of the time; and I dont quite have the money to shell out for a Garmin
“Crunchy spearmint gum”…hmm. Doesn’t sound very appealing! Good luck getting back into a regular routine.

Ah, I love the feeling of a nice run after going for a week without it! So great! π
I can’t wait for a good quality run.
Does the Garmin still work well otherwise? Is it a huge deal that the Enter button doesn’t work? I’ve been wanting a Garmin for so long! π

Mint granola sounds yummy…. but I don’t know if I could pair it with fruit. Makes me think of drinking orange juice after brushing my teeth! ha!
How functional is the Garmin without the Enter button? I have a polar watch that I LOVE that counts calories and heart rate – but it DOESN’T do distance. So, I’d love to try out a Garmin!!!

I’m not a huge fan of spearmint in general, but if it was peppermint, that would be ok!
I love that feeling of getting back to running after a week off!

The mint granola sounds interesting! I don’t like overpowering mint flavors, so I’m not sure how I’d feel about that. I’m sure it can’t be that bad if it has chocolate in it though π

Did you recommend the 205 or the 305? Is there any real difference besides the HR monitor which I dont think I would need? My husband found some deal and wants to get us one. I figured you were the girl to ask. π

I just got the 205 and I looove it! I don’t have experience with the 305 but I definitely reccomend the 205!
The only real difference I know is the HR Monitor (which I never use anyways!) I say go with which ever one is cheaper at the time of purchase!
Yay for a great run and a new bday garmin!

Doesn’t a good run just make you feel amazing?! I had one last week and I still have runners high!
Oh and about the Garmin…seriously? I’d so take it off your hands! I am a fairly new runner training for my 1st half marathon so it’ll be perfect.
I would be interested in the garmin too! I’ve been wanting one!
I’m itching to go for a run, too, but I’ve been so sore from this new class I’ve been taking. No matter what I am going for a run tomorrow! I need to take advantage of this warmer weather in case it turns cold again.

The first thing I thought of when you said crunchy spearmint was toothpaste. Doesn’t sound too appealing. Hopefully the other ones taste better.

This is exactly how I felt on Sunday. I had my wisdom teeth removed and was banned from running for a week. It was such a rush to be able to run again!

sounds like the chocolate mint clif… it’s right on the line between delicious and just a little too much like chocolate and toothpaste.
