O-Town

by Meghann on February 6, 2011

I guess it would help when taking a visiting friend to one’s favorite studio to check said studio’s schedule before leaving. Turns out Orlando Power Yoga moved their Sunday morning yoga class from 9:45 to 9:00.

Woops.

No worries. There are only about a bajillion other yoga studios in Orlando to choose from. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We ended up at College Park Yoga for their 10:15 power class instead. The unexpected class was a nice surprise because it gave me a chance to finally check out their new studio (which was gorgeous and reminded me of the fancier ones I’ve visited around the country).

However, the class itself was just ok. The pace was a little slower than I’m used to and the flow was too repetitive for my taste. I get a little bored doing the same poses over and over again. Every yoga practice has it’s place and I just wasn’t feeling today’s.

After yoga I had a free bar to hold me over until lunch.

I took Amanda to another Orlando Favorite – Dandelion Cafe! – for lunch.

I resisted ordering my favorite nachos and instead got the Buffalo Tempeh Wrap with Whirled Peas on the side.

IMG_6725.JPG

The Buffalo Tempeh Wrap was delicious, but messy! The vegan buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing forced me to eat the second half of the wrap with a fork.

IMG_6720.JPG

I’ve been curious about Dandelion’s ‘Whirled Peas’ for a while. It’s their version of guacamole and honestly if you would have asked me if this was real guacamole I would of said yes. It tasted exactly like avocado, not peas! When I ran out of chips I finished the rest off with my fingers. Delicious. ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_6724.JPG

We spent the remainder of the afternoon taking advantage of the break in rain and walked around Lake Eola and downtown Orlando.

IMG_6726.JPG

IMG_6728.JPG IMG_6729.JPG IMG_6730.JPG IMG_6731.JPG IMG_6733.JPG

Giving the mini tour of downtown Orlando and later College Park reminded me how much I’m going to miss this area. If someone asked me to give them a tour of Tampa I wouldn’t know where to begin! I have so much to learn about my new city. Did you know I move exactly one month from yesterday? Crazy.

Remember that brothy disappointing Split Pea Soup I had last week? Well this bowl totally made up for it. Let me present you with the way Split Pea Soup should look.

IMG_6762.JPG

Thick? Yes!

Creamy? Yes!

Fun toppings? Yes!

IMG_6767.JPG

Mmm…. tastes so good.

And so easy too.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 an Onion
  • 4 Carrots
  • 3 cloves of Garlic
  • 2 cups of Split Peas
  • 2 cups Vegetable Broth
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt & Pepper

Put everything in a pot and bring to a medium boil for 3 hours.

IMG_6755.JPG

I added raisins and pepitas for a touch of crunchy and sweet. ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_6749.JPG

The Corn Muffin came from a recipe found on the side of Bob’s Red Mill Cornmeal.

IMG_6743.jpg IMG_6738.jpg

IMG_6739.JPG

IMG_6746.JPG

IMG_6764.JPG

๐Ÿ™‚

I introduced Amanda to Jeremiah’s for dessert.

IMG_4407.JPG

Reason #23123 why I love birthdays – free stuff! ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_4401.JPG

I ordered a small mix of Mint Chocolate Chip and P-Nutty.

IMG_4406.jpg

Superbowl. Umm…. What Superbowl? ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_6770.JPG

I lied. I really did watch. A little.

My favorite parts?

  • Christina Aguliera forgetting an entire verse of the national anthem.
  • All of the NFL Network commercials.
  • Following the #Brandbowl Hashtag on twitter. ๐Ÿ™‚

And watching Glee! Well, that starts now!

Good Night!

Yeah, Christina’s mess up was pretty bad! I have a question about yoga, I am a beginner (as in, I’ve never taken a class) and I’d like to get started. Can you recommend any good beginner yoga DVDs or websites?

Just about every restaurant I go to, if they have nachos I just HAVE to have them. I really need to stop doing that, but they’re just so good!

That wrap looks really yummy though. ๐Ÿ™‚

I enjoy College Park Yoga a lot, but I understand what you mean about the repetitiveness. It took me awhile to really start to embrace it. I kept going back because I love Teresa and Calvin’s view of yoga and the world. Eventually, I begin to enjoy the flow and use it as a form of meditation. I usually go there twice to three times a week. I’m surprised I didn’t run into you.

13 Grace February 7, 2011 at 12:24 am

Your split pea soup sounds so yummy! I might have to add split peas to my grocery list this week! So does Jerimiah’s taste icy or creamy? The picture looks awesome but I’ve never been a huge fan of italian ice. Only because I usually want chocolate-y/vanilla-y things for dessert not fruity!

It tastes ice creamy! I’m not a fan of fruit italian ice either, that’s why I love Jeremiahs! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have been looking for a good corn muffin recipe. What did you think of the Bob’s Red Mill corn muffins? Would you recommend the recipe? Any changes you would suggest to the recipe? Thanks for the info!

18 Meghann February 7, 2011 at 10:38 pm

I loved the Bob’s Red Mill Corn Muffins Recipe. I didn’t make any changes and I would happily make them the exact same way again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Interesting abot CPY. I just started up yoga and that’s where I’ve been going since it’s close to my house. Totally thought it was normal to have that much repetition in a class and totally thought it was just me for being kind of bored. Don’t get me wrong, I love the teachers and everything, but I think I have a short attention span.

OPY is close to my work. I’m going to be brave and try it out this week. ๐Ÿ™‚

Poor Christina Aguilera. She must feel so embarrassed right now. That being said…if you’re going to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, you should probably make sure you know all the verses by heart.
