O-Town

by Meghann on February 6, 2011

I guess it would help when taking a visiting friend to one’s favorite studio to check said studio’s schedule before leaving. Turns out Orlando Power Yoga moved their Sunday morning yoga class from 9:45 to 9:00.

Woops.

No worries. There are only about a bajillion other yoga studios in Orlando to choose from. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We ended up at College Park Yoga for their 10:15 power class instead. The unexpected class was a nice surprise because it gave me a chance to finally check out their new studio (which was gorgeous and reminded me of the fancier ones I’ve visited around the country).

However, the class itself was just ok. The pace was a little slower than I’m used to and the flow was too repetitive for my taste. I get a little bored doing the same poses over and over again. Every yoga practice has it’s place and I just wasn’t feeling today’s.

After yoga I had a free bar to hold me over until lunch.

I took Amanda to another Orlando Favorite – Dandelion Cafe! – for lunch.

I resisted ordering my favorite nachos and instead got the Buffalo Tempeh Wrap with Whirled Peas on the side.

The Buffalo Tempeh Wrap was delicious, but messy! The vegan buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing forced me to eat the second half of the wrap with a fork.

I’ve been curious about Dandelion’s ‘Whirled Peas’ for a while. It’s their version of guacamole and honestly if you would have asked me if this was real guacamole I would of said yes. It tasted exactly like avocado, not peas! When I ran out of chips I finished the rest off with my fingers. Delicious. ๐Ÿ™‚

We spent the remainder of the afternoon taking advantage of the break in rain and walked around Lake Eola and downtown Orlando.

Giving the mini tour of downtown Orlando and later College Park reminded me how much I’m going to miss this area. If someone asked me to give them a tour of Tampa I wouldn’t know where to begin! I have so much to learn about my new city. Did you know I move exactly one month from yesterday? Crazy.

Remember that brothy disappointing Split Pea Soup I had last week? Well this bowl totally made up for it. Let me present you with the way Split Pea Soup should look.

Thick? Yes!

Creamy? Yes!

Fun toppings? Yes!

Mmm…. tastes so good.

And so easy too.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 an Onion
  • 4 Carrots
  • 3 cloves of Garlic
  • 2 cups of Split Peas
  • 2 cups Vegetable Broth
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt & Pepper

Put everything in a pot and bring to a medium boil for 3 hours.

I added raisins and pepitas for a touch of crunchy and sweet. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Corn Muffin came from a recipe found on the side of Bob’s Red Mill Cornmeal.

I introduced Amanda to Jeremiah’s for dessert.

Reason #23123 why I love birthdays – free stuff! ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_4401.JPG

I ordered a small mix of Mint Chocolate Chip and P-Nutty.

IMG_4406.jpg

Superbowl. Umm…. What Superbowl? ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_6770.JPG

I lied. I really did watch. A little.

My favorite parts?

  • Christina Aguliera forgetting an entire verse of the national anthem.
  • All of the NFL Network commercials.
  • Following the #Brandbowl Hashtag on twitter. ๐Ÿ™‚

And watching Glee! Well, that starts now!

Good Night!

It’s Yoga Time

February 6, 2011

Because obviously when friends come to visit the first thing I want to do is take them to my favorite studio. Come to Orlando and I promise I’ll take you there too. Only, it has to be before I move. Ok? ๐Ÿ˜‰ We’re actually on our way out the door for yoga, but before we more ยป
