Level 2 of Jillian Michaels’ 6 Week 6 Pack

by Meghann on January 25, 2011

Good Morning and Welcome to Level 2 of Jillian Michaels’ 6 Week 6 Pack.

6w6p.jpg

Good thing too because I was getting really tired of Level 1. It was nice to change it up this morning.

Level 2 was just a tad tougher, but I enjoyed how each of the Levels have a different approach to the work outs.

  • Level 1 is more floor work, Level 2 is more standing
  • Level 1 is more crunch motion, Level 2 is more twisting
  • Both concentrate on obliques
  • Both have an equal amount of cardio

(In case you missed it here’s the breakdown of this challenge)

I did the 30 minute DVD then dug into a big bowl of cantaloupe for breakfast.

IMG_5890.JPG

Unfortunately the cantaloupe wasn’t good at all. It was dry and flavorless. Lesson learned – do not buy cantaloupe when it is wayyyy out of season. 🙁

IMG_5891.JPG

The yogurt, almond butter, and Kashi Go Lean Crisp did help make it edible. 🙂

2011 Oscar Nominees

Did anyone catch the 2011 Oscar Nominees being announced this morning?

I was pleasantly surprised that not only did I recognize all of the Best Picture Nominees, but the majority of them I’ve either seen or are currently in my Netflix Queue.

  • Black Swan (Saw it. Beautifully written/ directed/acted)
  • The Fighter (No desire to see it)
  • Inception (Saw it. Great movie that actually kept me interested the entire time.)
  • The Kids Are All Right (In my Netflix queue)
  • The King’s Speech (No desire to see it, but have heard good things.)
  • 127 Hours (In my Netflix queue)
  • The Social Network (Saw it. I personally thought it was really interesting because I’m a product of the Facebook era.)
  • Toy Story 3 (Saw it. Cute, but not sure it deserves the statue.)
  • True Grit ( Eh)
  • Winter’s Bone (eh)

My money is on Black Swan, but that’s only because I haven’t seen The King’s Speech and I’m pretty sure that’s where everyone else is putting their money.

Who do you think will take the statue home next month?

1 Becky January 25, 2011 at 9:32 am

I can’t believe you don’t want to see the King’s Speech! It was such a heartwarming, feel-good movie. Is there any particular reason you aren’t interested in it?

My money is on The King’s Speech, but I’m going to see Black Swan tonight so maybe that will change after I see it.

2 Meghann January 25, 2011 at 10:15 am

I’m not a fan of period pieces like that. I have no doubt it’s a wonderful movie, it just isn’t my style. 🙂

3 Becky January 25, 2011 at 10:19 am

Gotcha. It’s interesting to hear you call it a period piece since I feel like it’s truly recent history (within the living memory of the current population). I loved the subtle ways they worked in the current Queen as a little girl and other contemporary historical figures. To each their own I guess!

4 Ali @ Ali on the Run January 25, 2011 at 9:32 am

I think Natalie Portman definitely deserves to win Best Actress. Her portrayal of Nina was mind-blowing—one of those performances that sticks in your head days after you’ve seen the movie (my boyfriend is STILL talking about it, hehe).

I don’t like that there are 10 Best Picture nominees now. I think that’s a little much. Part of the excitement is the competition to even be nominated. Now everyone gets nominated! That being said, I loved Black Swan & The Social Network but have many more to see before the Oscars.

5 Meghann January 25, 2011 at 10:16 am

I agree! I was a little surprised when they mentioned TEN nominees!

6 Samantha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans January 25, 2011 at 9:33 am

I’ve been flipping back and forth with level one and two. I actualy like level two better although it is pretty tough.

My bet is The Social Network, which I liked as well. I guess maybe I am basing it on thr Golden Globes though 🙂

7 Paige @ The Gravy Boat January 25, 2011 at 9:34 am

I really loved Black Swan, so that would definitely get my vote. I saw Toy Story 3 and True Grit, and though I liked them both, I don’t think they compare to Black Swan.

I didn’t know 127 Hours was on Netflix! I’ve been wanting to see it.

I actually thought Winters Bone was a fantasic movie.

10 Jena January 25, 2011 at 9:39 am

Does it make me un-American if I haven’t seen a single one of those movies. I’m not saying that jus so I can leave a comment, I honestly have not seen a single one of those movies. We don’t go to the movies, most of the time it’s not worth my $10/ea to sit there and be annoyed by the chronic texter, or the annoying teenagers. (just call me scrooge) – I will admit I do want to see Black Swan, and there are a few others out right now I’d like to see, but we just don’t go to the movies. I’m quite sure we haven’t gone in 4+years.

11 Kelly January 25, 2011 at 9:39 am

I need to see more movies! These are all going on my list. The only one I have seen is Inception and I loved it. I’m a very logical person and if there is anything ever “off” in a move, I latch on to it and I can’t enjoy the movie anymore (OCD much?). Inception was one of those movies that had so many twists and turns that it would have been really easy to let something “illogical” slip in, but I think they did a great job of tying everything up and explaining it in a way that I could accept. I really want to see Black Swan but I’ve heard mixed review. :/

I’ve only seen one of the nominated movies – Toy Story 3. Clearly, I need to get out more! The fiance and I are hoping to see True Grit, The King’s Speech, and Black Swan before they leave theaters. I really liked Toy Story, but I’m pretty sure it won’t win.

I really loved Black Swan and 127 hours. Both films had me thinking about them for weeks! I think you should give The Fighter a chance! I’m usually not so into this type of movie but I thought it was really great. It’s based on a true story and Christian Bale did such an amazing job becoming his character.

15 Bekah (runtrackmind) January 25, 2011 at 9:51 am

As one who is in week 3 of 6W6P I agree about needing a change so I am looking forward to Level 2. Are you getting results that you wanted?

16 Meghann January 25, 2011 at 10:21 am

I felt confident enough to strut in my bikini at the Polar plunge on Saturday – I think that’s saying enough 🙂

17 Christina January 25, 2011 at 9:51 am

Oh man I saw the nominations this morning but I can’t believe I really haven’t been able to see many of them! Doh! I’d have to say that I’ve heard many things about Black Swan as appose to the other movies so I’d bet my money on that one also.

On another note, do you have to do the ab DVD every day? I think I’m going to order it this weekend but I’m still torn about it lol.

I saw Black Swan and was kind of disappointed-although Natalie Portman did a great job. I think the Social Network might win.

I thought the acting in True Grit was good, especially the 14 year old girl! But I do agree with the “Eh” response. I thought the movie was a little weird and a little random at times.

25 Alyssa January 25, 2011 at 10:04 am

It will either be The Kings Speech or The Social Network, they are the only two movies who one any of the best picture awards this year, but I think Natalie Portman will definitely win for best actress 🙂

I know it doesn’t look that great from the previews, but The King’s Speech was absolutely breathtaking. I was expecting not to like it at all, and it had me in tears! I also really enjoyed The Kids Are All Right, although I don’t think it’s necessarily deserving of the Best Picture award. Maybe Black Swan?

I was so mad when i saw the nominees! The Kids Are All Right were nominated in practically every category, but was mediocre at best. Blue Valentine– one of the best movies I have ever seen– was totally left out, except for one nomination for Michelle Williams. And also, Hailee Steinfeld as supporting actress? She may be 14 but she totally carried that movie. I am starting to give up on Hollywood!

42 Anna @ History Running Girl January 25, 2011 at 12:55 pm

The movie campaigned for her for supporting instead of best actress because she actually has a much better shot to win Best Supporting.

43 Lauren @ Running Examiner January 25, 2011 at 11:25 am

I’ve seen a few of the movies nominated this year. I thought “Black Swan” was amazing, but it wasn’t actually my favorite out of the other nine. (I feel like the metaphor was kind of beaten to death?) I thought “The Fighter” was excellent, as was “Winter’s Bone.” The latter is actually my favorite. The story was so riveting, and the female lead (blanking on her name) was absolutely amazing. (Of course, this is Best Picture, not Best Actress!)

I’m kind of meh about “True Grit.” I really liked the movie and the performances, but I don’t believe it was the best picture of the year.

I have not seen “The Social Network,” but want to. Same thing with “The Kids are All Right.” They both look great!

44 michelle January 25, 2011 at 11:53 am

I had no desire to see The Fighter until I heard all the gush about Christian Bale’s performance. And I’m so glad I went to see it because it was hands down the best movie I have seen in the past year.
