Meet Bubbles

by Meghann on December 28, 2010

Allow me to introduce you the newest additions to the Meals and Miles clan:

Bubbles! aka my brand new SodaStream. :)

IMG_2883.jpg

Isn’t she a beaut? ;)

What is a SodaStream? Well, it’s basically a nifty machine that allows one to make soda water from the comfort of their own home using the power of CO2. Santa (aka Mom & Dad) was kind enough to leave one under the tree for me on Christmas morning and I’ve been dying to get it out of the box ever since.

IMG_2886.jpg

There wasn’t much in the box – just a can of CO2, two bottles, and the machine itself. No batteries are needed and no outlet is required. The only thing set up involves is attaching the CO2 to the machines.

From there the directions are pretty clear.

Fill the bottle with water.

Attach the bottle to the machine.

Press the button on top

And let Bubbles do her thing

Weeeee….

So easy! The only thing is, I like my soda water cold and I’m not the biggest fan of ice, so it’s in the fridge chilling at the moment. No instant satisfaction here. But, I did take a sip straight off the sodastream and was a fan of the bubbles that tickled my throat exactly as they were supposed to. :)

Thank you Santa (aka Mom & Dad)! for the awesome gift. I promise this one is going to get a lot of use in the near future. ;)

I’m not sure how long mango lasts in the fridge, but I had half of this mango before I left town on Thursday and found the other half still alive and well in the fridge.

Just a little brown, no biggie. It still tasted right (that’s what counts, right?) and made a very fruity afternoon snack. :)

Derek (who has the week off of work and is crashing at my place as a mini vacay for the week) asked what I wanted for dinner and the only thing I could come up with was roasted vegetables.

“With red sauce?”

“Yes, that sounds perfect.” He knows me well. :)

IMG_2913.JPG

It has been a week full of sugar and turkey, I needed vegetables back in my life and a LOT of them. Derek and I roasted potatoes, sweet potatoes, onion, broccoli, parsnips, radishes, and mushrooms. We piled everything on some steamed kale and topped it off with red sauce and goat cheese.

IMG_2920.JPG

The goat cheese melted into the red sauce and made an extra creamy, delicious topping. I made sure to soak up every last drop with a nice chunk of multi-grain bread.

IMG_2928.JPG

For dessert I had my first few pieces of my stocking candy.

IMG_2934.JPG

Christmas morning I was too sick to enjoy it, good thing I’m all better now – can’t let the good stuff go to waste! ;)

Derek and I are sitting back with some nice hot tea and the movie The Town. We’re about 20 minutes in and I’m already lost. Looks like I better start paying attention now.

Good Night!! :)

Bridesmaid

by Meghann on December 28, 2010

Guess what?!?!

I’M GOING TO BE A BRIDESMAID!!!!!

IMG_1554.JPG

My brother’s fiance, Ashley, asked me this morning! :)

I’ve never been a bridesmaid before. Heck, I’ve never even been in a wedding party before. I’m not 100% sure what comes with the territory besides putting a pretty dress on and walking down the aisle a few steps ahead of the bride, but I’m really excited to be supporting my brother and future sister-in-law on their big day.

IMG_1515.jpg

By the way, no dates have been officially set yet. They are thinking March 2012 (which in my opinion would be a fab month to get married). It gives them plenty of time to plan, finish school (Ashley has another semester of undergrad and then PT school), and settle a bit before saying I do. :)

Have you been a bridesmaid before? Anything I should know before diving in?

I had a great lunch today with a fellow Orlando blogger at Hot Olives in Winter Park.

IMG_2867.JPG

Hot Olives recently moved to a brand new location off of Fairbanks and New York Ave. I like that it’s easy to find right on the main road. I also loved the larger space, open interior, and clean, funky design.

The menu was still the same great menu. Lots of delicious salads, sandwiches, and southern classics with a modern twist.

IMG_2871.JPG

I ordered a cup of the Chicken Tortilla Soup which had large pieces of tortilla chips (instead of just the strips) and a great cheesey topping. Only thing missing was a little extra spice.

IMG_2874.JPG

I paired the soup with the antipasto appetizer (gotta get those healthy fats in!)

IMG_2882.JPG

And ignored the crostinis that came with the antipasto in favor of a crusty white roll from the basket served with our meals.

All in all a fabulous meal in a beautiful restaurant with great company.

I dined with Bess who writes the blog The Central Florida Top 5. I’m trying to dive further into the Orlando blogger scene and she’s volunteered to guide me. This girl knows her stuff. :)

Bess’ Blog is great if you are in the Orlando area – or are ever plan to visit. Each week Bess lists the Top 5 events of what to do in or around Orlando and every month she does a monthly break down of what’s coming up. I’m going to start blogging on her site in January covering some of the fitness events in the area. Sounds like fun to me. :)

Doggie Sleepover

December 28, 2010

One dog is tough. Two dogs are manageable. FOUR dogs is just plain crazy. My Dad likes to call to refer to it as ‘doggie sleep over.’ When ever all four dogs are together at my parents house they tend to run wild and goes crazy. And I’m just not talking about during the day. more ยป
