Palm Beach Marathon Playlist

by Meghann on December 10, 2010

Oh, God. I can’t believe I’m about to post this. *gulp*

I’ve been writing this blog for over two years and in that time, probably one of my most frequently asked questions has been ‘What’s on your running playlist?’ Runners crave great, fast paced, heart pumping songs and always look towards other runners for that one song that may motivate them all the way to a new PR.

I am not that other runner. My playlists have always been somewhat embarrassing.  I’m not into music. At all. I tend to enjoy mainstream pop, country, and musicals. I do not enjoy rap, techo, and hard core punk/rock songs.  I learned long ago to keep my ipod playlist as secretive and hidden as possible, as to avoid why I should not be listening to so and so and how I should be listening to so and so instead. What if I don’t like so and so? I like songs that are fun to sing to, not ones that give me headaches.

However, this Saturday I was particularly proud of my marathon playlist. The songs played out beautifully and really helped me zone out when I needed it. There was a mix of fast pace, upbeat songs. As well as songs that told stories and encouraged me to listen in on instead of concentration on  how much my legs hurt.

I hope this playlist encourages a few of you, just as it encouraged me. 😉

A couple of favorites of the race:

  • Totally F****d – Spring Awakening Soundtrack
  • Should’ve Said No – Taylor Swift
  • Not Afraid – Eminem
  • You Can’t Stop the Beat – Hairspray

As you can see, I have the music taste of a 12 year old drama nerd – and I wouldn’t change that for a minute. 😉

Let me know if you have any questions on a particular song. I was going to create an iMix, but my inability to connect to the internet at home last night prevented that. 🙁

Can we say random array of foods or what?

Yep – random!

I LOVE that you have musicals on your playlist! I run with songs from musicals too!!!! (I’m a Musical Theatre major so it’s basically a requirement ;))
As always your food looks great!
This post just made my day! 🙂 Now I know that I’m not the only person to run with some showtunes on their iPod. 😉

My running playlist is totally random as well, and it also consists of lots of contemporary pop, musicals (I love Wicked and Spring Awakening!), and some hip-hop that I only listen to when I’m running or driving. Right now, my favorites are “Little Lion Man” by Mumford & Sons; “Love the Way you Lie” by Rihanna and Eminem; and “The Woman with the Tattooed Hands” by Atmosphere. I can’t wait to download some tunes from your list!

4 Sarah for Real December 10, 2010 at 2:42 pm

I’m embarrassed of my playlists too! Thanks for putting it out there!

ps I think you mean capers, not chives 😉 I only say that because my husband loves bagels and lox but I cannot stand the smoked salmon OR the capers. Give me a bagel with cream cheese, tomato and onion and I’m happy!

5 ariel December 10, 2010 at 2:44 pm

I love your running playlist! AH! I want it! haha. There was a period in high school were I listened to Totally F****d at least once a week. Saved my sanity while applying to Undergrad programs. =)

Lunch looks great (but are those capers on your sandwich and not chives? Both are great with salmon)!

Glad I’m not the only person who still listens to Ashlee Simpson (Wentz). Her, Britney Spears, and Rhianna make up the bulk of my playlists.

Only 51 days until Central Florida takes over Miami!

14 Danielle December 10, 2010 at 2:58 pm

LOVE your playlist!! And your blog! : )

Thanks for sharing!

15 Meredith December 10, 2010 at 3:05 pm

I love your playlist. I am not ashamed to say I still love old school *NSYNC, Britney, Backstreet Boys, 98 degrees 🙂 I still think that is some of the best music ever and it always gives me a little kick in my step when one of them comes on shuffle! I have never been one of those people to “discover” new or hip artists. Mainstream works for me. Be proud of that playlist and rock it!

16 Vikki December 10, 2010 at 8:41 pm

I also have ‘NSync and Britney on my playlist. The No Strings Attached album most especially.

Seriously, I bet I have a more random mix than most people on mine. Some examples. Cell Block Tango from Chicago on mine. 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton (Best Country Running Song Ever). Shoo Shoo Baby by the Andrews Sisters. Sabotage by the Beastie Boys. Boom Boom Pow Wow by the Black Eyed Peas. Flat on the Floor by Carrie Underwood. Other artists include Bon Jovi, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Taylor Swift, Jay Z, NeYo, the cast of Wicked. But the variety keeps me moving and entertained.

Sigh. I have lots of Random music in general.

17 Amanda December 10, 2010 at 3:07 pm

that is an awesome mix! what a fun variety of songs!

18 Deirdre December 10, 2010 at 3:11 pm

I love your mix! I love working out to country music and musicals. I’m also always on the eliptical or treadmill blasting out to the Wicked soundtrack. Playlists are for you not anyone else!

22 Anne @thefitbridesmaid December 10, 2010 at 3:15 pm

Yeah, we have the same taste in music.

I remember when So You Think You Can Dance used “You Can’t Stop the Beat” (about 4 years ago) and I had on replay on my ipod for a week! Just makes me wanna dance!

23 Morgan December 10, 2010 at 3:16 pm

A good playlist gets you moving regardless of what’s on it.

My music preferences are varied. I like everything from really mainstream top 40, to obscure types of jazz (like gypsy jazz), to indie folk, to punk, to screamo, to showtunes.
