It Beats Sitting at a Desk

by Meghann on September 29, 2010

Shopping, Sight Seeing, and Spa Treatments?

Have I told you how much I love traveling with my boss?

Because I do! ;)

When I booked the flights for my boss, Lisa, and I for Colorado last week I had three options:

  1. Take an early direct flight with the option to leisurely find our way to keystone before the reception at 6:00pm
  2. Take a non-direct flight that had us going up and town before arriving in Colorado who knows when
  3. Take the later direct flight that had us arriving in Keystone after the 6:00 pm reception.

I think it’s pretty obvious the choice I made.

The leisurely make our way up the mountain option of course. ;)

We landed in Denver around 9:00am and after grabbing our bags and our rental car, it was 10:00am and we were ready for lunch. Too early? Probably.

I had a mini bag of almonds before we left Denver and managed to make it to Idaho Springs where we waited for Beau Jo’s to open and serve us lunch at 11:00.

IMG_1342.JPG

Beau Jo’s and I go way back. ;) It’s actually the place where I had my first reader meet up back in February 2009 (recap here). I remember being very fond of their delicious mountain pies and knew it would be a great place to stop as we made our way up to Keystone.

Did you know the Boulder location of Beau Jo’s has appeared on an episode of Man V Food?

IMG_1347.JPG

Derek was VERY jealous when I texted him to let him know I was eating at a Man V Food restaurant without him. I’m pretty sure I lost some good girlfriend points with this one.

IMG_1346.JPG

Lisa and I both started with the salad bar

IMG_1358.JPG

How cute are the antique bath tubs that the salad bar sits in?!?!

IMG_1370.JPG

IMG_1355.JPG

I LOVED Beau Jo’s Menu. Not only did they have a vast variety of great options, they also devoted an entire page of the menu to my Gluten-Free friends.

IMG_1348.JPG

There’s also a ‘Smart Meal’ section of the menu with lighter, healthier options. The ‘create your own’ option from this section was what caught my eye.

IMG_1352.JPG

My selections:

  1. Size: Individual
  2. Base: The Whole Wheat Mountain Pie Crust
  3. Sauce: BBQ Sauce
  4. Vegetable: Onion, Olives, Tomatoes, Pineapple, Banana Peppers
  5. Protein: Tofu
  6. Cheese: Feta & Ricotta

IMG_1364.JPG

Check out that crust!

IMG_1365.JPG

High doughy crust on the outside, a thin crunchy crust on the inside.

IMG_1369.JPG

I should have done a size comparison because this individual pizza really was the perfect size. At about the size of a a small salad plate, it was the perfect filling amount of veggies, crust, and cheese. It was also amazingly delicious. The BBQ sauce had a slight spice to it and the sweet pineapple and salty feta were the perfect complement to it. Yum, Yum, and more Yum! :)

After lunch I discovered the cutest little store called the Soap Shop

IMG_1302.JPG

IMG_1322.JPG

Everything inside was beautiful, fresh, and smelled amazing.

IMG_1303.jpg IMG_1307.JPG

IMG_1304.JPG

IMG_1311.JPG

IMG_1313.JPG

It’s all natural, organic, and the majority of the soap is made by hand in the store. I went a little crazy selecting some bath salts, a mud mask, and hand cremes to take home with me.

Over the mountains and through the woods, to Keystone we go!

IMG_1414.JPG

After a couple of detours we made it to Keystone with a couple of hours to spare. Apparently a couple of hours to spare means ‘let’s check out the spa’ to my boss. And, I mean, who am I to deny my boss?

IMG_1441.JPG

IMG_1443.JPG

Oh look. What do we have here? A special? Well, I mean… if you insist. ;)

IMG_1442.JPG

Please note this is not a typical travel for work activity and the price for the massage came from my own pocket.

IMAG0205.jpg

But… it sure beats sitting at my desk at the office. ;)

IMAG0207.jpg

I opted for the 50 minute customizable massage and requested deep tissue with an emphasis on my back and legs. The masseuse was a marathoner herself and knew exactly what she was doing. She even informed me that a lot of elite runners receive daily massages as a performance enhancer. She suggested I have one more massage a few days before the race to make sure my muscles were all in tip top shape before the big day. Sounds good to me!

I emerged from my massage feeling refreshed and renewed and was immediately greeted with some grapes.

IMAG0208.jpg

And a glass of white wine.

IMAG0209.jpg

Like I said, it sure beats sitting at a desk!

IMAG0210.jpg

Along with the amazing spa, the room we’re staying in aren’t bad either.

IMG_1424.JPG

My one bedroom condo reminds me of the places my family stays when we ski. I comes complete with a full kitchen, dining area, bathroom, living room, separate bedroom and a teeny tiny balcony.

IMG_1435.JPG

My favorite part is the view!

IMG_1427.JPG

You don’t get a view like this at home.

IMG_1426.JPG

I had a granola bar while settling into my room.

IMG_1445.JPG

Tonight’s cocktail hour was very low key. My company is a sponsor for the event, so we have a booth that we will be manning tomorrow, but tonight was 100% social. We were able to relax and mingle with a few clients as well as potential clients.

IMAG0213.jpg

There was a Taco Bar set up, as well as some salad options and drinks.

I sat down with a small plate of the blue cheese & pecan salad

IMAG0211.jpg

And had a local beer (I <3 Colorado Microbrews!)

IMAG0212.jpg

After cocktails, my boss and I headed to the hotel bar for a light dinner of bread, soup, and veggies.

A few clients came by ready to drink, but I was so tried I could barely keep my head up. My bed was calling my name and I was happy to listen.

Must. Sleep. Now.

Good Night!

Airplane Blogging… again

by Meghann on September 29, 2010

Good Morning!

IMG_2908.JPG

Please excuse the ‘I’ve been up since 4:00am’ bags under my eyes. Wearing make up has never been my strong suit. I’m much more of an ‘au natural’ girl. Take me as I am – bags and all. ;)

Another week, another post from 30,00 ft up in the air.

IMG_2884.JPG

How many airplane posts am I up to now? 20? 30? Who knows. But, you better get used to it. Err… I better used to to it because this is my first of FIVE back to back flights between now and November.

Oy Vey.

I’m not complaining though. Errr… not complaining much. I feel very blessed to have a job that allows me the opportunity to both travel for work and travel for fun. It’s all about give and take and I’ll take all I can get. ;)

Anyways…. Yes, I was up super early this morning. I had a 7:00am direct fight and have a paranoid need to arrive at the airport way before what the airport typically recommends.

I was a little bummed the terminal my flight was in lacked a Starbucks – read: no Pumpkin Spice Tea Latte *sniff *sniff – so I had to make do with generic Cup of Joe Coffee shop instead.

IMG_2883.JPG

I ordered a large Non-Fat Chai Latte.

IMG_2882.jpg

I asked for it unsweetened, but was told the chai mix came pre-sweetened. Bummer. For some one who rarely drinks anything sweet, this was a bit too much for me. I had about 1/2 before tossing it. Next time I’ll make sure to select a flight in one of Starbucks terminals. We all have our priorities, right?

I’m traveling with my boss this morning and impressed her with my expert travel skills. I’ve got this traveling thing down to a science by now after all.

First there was my ticket that the flight attendant was able to scan via my smartphone instead of a crinkled piece of paper. I love paperless boarding passes. They’re so easy. You don’t have to worry about forgetting to print the boarding pass the night before, losing the ticket before you reach your gate, and they’re so green.

Secondly, I impressed her with my pre-packed breakfast.

IMG_2885.JPG

In the bajillion of flights I’ve been on in the last two years I’ve had a packed breakfast for each and everyone. It’s become second nature by now to prep my breakfast the night before and to just grab it from the fridge on my way out the door.

IMG_2889.JPG

This breakfast was an extra delicious one. I discovered a new favorite sandwich combo – Almond Butter and Pumpkin!

IMG_2892.JPG

With Granola and Raisins!

IMG_2888.JPG

Whoa! Try it. You will love it.

IMG_2895.JPG

And a peach to fulfill my need for fresh fruit each morning.

IMG_2890.JPG

All enjoyed while listening to last night’s Glee soundtrack (I <3 Britney Spears!) and catching up on the latest hollywood gossip.

IMG_2896.JPG

Let’s dissect…

I want to see this

IMG_2898.JPG

I want to read this

IMG_2900.JPG

Who is Crystal Bowersox??

IMG_2901.JPG

DRAMA!

IMG_2903.JPG

Also, I would like to point out the girl who claims to have had the alleged affair with Ashton is a year younger than Demi’s eldest daughter. Anyone else find this interesting? hmmm…

Alright, that’s it for now!

Maybe I’ll try and get some actual work done, I mean there is that recipe page I’ve been promising for ages. ;)

See ya in Denver!
