There’s something exciting about the start of each new month. I think it’s like starting anything – new job, new school year, new year, new week, etc – they all encompass an overwhelming feeling of refreshness that makes you believe each new start is going to be a good one.
So, totally believing today was a new month (September first), I arrived at work early, flipped my calendar to September, and settled into my computer for the day… And then realized I was a bit premature in my excitement.
Turns out we still have two days left in August before September comes roaring in. Oopss!
I begrudgingly flipped my calendar back to August and figured I might as well enjoy these last days of August while I can. I’ll save my new month excitement just a couple of more days.
I was hoping to start September off with a quiet morning, but it turns out I started August 30th with a quiet morning instead.
A long walk with Maddie…. a few strength training moves in the living room while I watched the end of last night’s Emmy’s (Modern Family for best comedy – really?)…. and a big bowl of cereal for breakfast.
- 1/2 cup Greenwise Oatmeal Flakes
- 3/4 cup (last of the bag) Kashi H2H
- Sprinkle Granola
- Fresh Figs
- Plain Yogurt
- Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter
Delicious.
A Message From Derek…
Hi everyone,
As you may remember, I committed to the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon a few weeks ago and pledged to raise $850 for the National MS Society. Truth be told, I didn’t know a whole lot about MS (other than the commonly known physicaly limitations) until I read up on it. It’s pretty amazing what progress we’ve made and how some ongoing trials are yielding very positive results.
Currently, I’m a little over half way there. In an effort to reach and exceed that goal, I’m raffling off a $50 gift card to Whole Foods (or the food/grocery store of your choice). I won’t lie…I’ll be stealing/borrowing (but with credit!) from a raffle structure that the coolest Caitlin used back in March.
Here’s the breakdown:
$5 gets you ONE raffle ticket
$10 gets you TWO raffle tickets
$15 gets you FOUR raffle tickets!
Make your raffle donation to my National MS Society page
I will list the names of each donator on an Excel spreadsheet (one entry per $5, two entries per $10, and FOUR entries per $15) and I will draw a winner using the Random Number Generator (link: www.random.org) this Thursday (September 2) morning.
Good luck and thank you to everyone for your support!

Modern Family is a GREAT show! I loved it! I am also in a hurry for September because it’s my birthday month
Modern Family is HILARIOUS! Definitely deserved to win.

I’m anxious for September too. I can’t wait to start the 30 Days of Self Love on my blog and see what it can do for us all.

Have a great (August) day!
It will be nice when September starts, but, at the same time, you just got two extra days that you didn’t even know you had. I love that feeling!
I hate when I get my days messed up! It throws me off for the whole week! its ALMOST september!
love modern family! kind of sad 30 rock didn’t win, but modern family is hilarious.
Ha, well look at it this way – you’ve got two more days to make sure August is a great month! And you’ve also got two days to gear up for a great September!
Modern family is the best comedy that ha been on TV in YEARS, in my opinion. Definitely give it a shot if you haven’t already!
Modern Family definitely deserved best comedy. It’s great, and I will take a MF win since the three funniest comedies from last year (Parks and Recreation, Community and Party Down) weren’t even nominated.
Honestly, I was just so freaking happy Aaron Paul won (Jesse Pinkman what what!) that I’m in a happy little afterglow this morning. So deserved.
Fresh figs for breakfast are a great start of a day
I look forward to September and a new semester. I have so much in my mind that I want to achieve…can’t wait to start on that
Modern family definitely deserved to win…it’s so funny and relevant to the times we live in. I’m looking forward to September too:)
What a beautiful breakfast bowl! The colors remind me of fall, so I can see why you picked it for this almost September day!
Yum!! Your cereal mixes always look so good!
I actually felt like today was the start of September, too! You’re not alone
I didn’t get to finish watching the Emmy’s last night… but did think what I saw was the best I’d seen it in years!
You so have to give Modern Family a try It is the one of the best shows on tv right now!
Well at least now you’re really ready for Sept. I know what you’re saying how a new month feels like a new start to something.
Bring on October, I’m ready for the holidays, ha.
I was a wee bit excited about September too today..except I also woke up thinking it was Saturday so imagine my mood when I realized it was Monday..darnit!
Modern Family is one of the best shows on TV right now!
I am also ready for the start of a new month, and for me, a new semester! You’ll just have to postpone your celebration for 2 days
Meghann! You don’t like Modern Family?! It’s hilarious!
You don’t like Modern Family?? I think it’s the best sitcom on TV right now and totally deserved to win- great characters, great actors, and who doesn’t love some good farce? Obviously I’m not the first to comment on this but I love that show so much I had to say something!
Do you not watch Modern Family? It’s amazing, extremely funny!!! Definitely deserved to win.
OMG, I love Modern Family. So glad it won.
Booo don’t rush August away, that means summer is over and snowy winters are around the corner!
I’m so glad Modern Family won!! It is hilarious!!- Have you ever seen it?
Two more days in August to think about any September goals!
As a fan of all the comedies nominated, I have to say Modern Family most definitely deserved it. I have not laughed out loud in any other tv show like I do with MF. Amazing.
And I’m with you on a fresh start in September. I always consider it my New Year’s.
I do this ALL the time! I’m lucky if I even know what day of the week it is. LoL.
Have a great day!
I have been watching Modern Family- and while it is not pee-your-pants-funny. It is warm, whitty, charming with a bunch of humor. Happy Aug 30th!
Hmm – I already donated to Derek’s campaign. May I be entered in the raffle?
I love Glee to pieces but still think Modern Family deserved the win more! It had one of the best first seasons of a show I’ve ever seen and even my beloved Glee had ho-hum periods.
