Heavy on the Sweet

by Meghann on August 20, 2010

For some reason I never really got hungry this morning.

I’m not sure why, but by the time lunch rolled around I wasn’t ‘starving’ per usual. And I could have easily kept working if it wasn’t for the fact that lunch meant escaping outside for an hour. Odd.

Lately I’ve realized when I’m not terribly hungry my tastebuds tend to prefer something sweet over something savory. Maybe it’s because sweet things aren’t as filling as other dishes? Or maybe it’s because I have the world’s biggest sweet tooth? 😉 But, when I scanned the fridge for lunch all I wanted was fruit, nut butter, chocolate, and cookies.

Sweet, sweet, and more sweet! 😉

I talked myself out of the chocolate, added in at least one vegetable (hello carrots!), and prepared a wonderful light lunch – heavy on the sweet!

I was tempted to load this plate with things I knew should have been a part of my lunch – leafy greens, broccoli, okra, etc. – but in the end I decided to go with my gut and just stuck with a peach, carrots, and almond butter for dipping.

Oh! And the last of Gina’s Macaroons!

I was happy with my decision. I still felt stuffed at the end of the meal – hello fiber! – and my tastebuds were perfectly satisfied. 🙂

In the Orlando area? Heading to the Orlando area? Then I highly suggest you start reading www.thedailycity.com. It’s a great Orlando area focused blog that I recently discovered thanks to Katy (her husband is now a staff contributor).

My favorite pages are linked below and list all area Frozen Yogurt shops and Farmers Markets. Love!

Heather from Side of Sneakers (<3 her) has been writing some great Healthy Living Summit recap posts that I highly recommend you check out as well!

And on that note I wanted to state we are working on having all the HLS presentations online soon! 🙂

You’ll have plenty of room for that deep dish pizza tonight too! Carrots and almond butter may be my favorite nut butter combo EVER.

I should take some cues from you. When I’m craving something sweet, I usually reach for the chocolate! But I eat my fair share of peanut butter, as well. 😉

I like the idea of carrots and almond butter, but I’m guessing that I’d probably just suck the almond butter off the carrots. That’s how I do it with celery. :p

Gotta love that lunch. I’m thinking every fruit and veggie pair well with nut butters! 🙂

That’s a lunch I like to see!!! And, I don’t always feel in the mood for breakfast. So, I don’t always eat it. Yeah, I just said that.
