The Big Bag

by Meghann on August 11, 2010

I’m not what one would call a ‘light packer.’

Had to break out the big bag for my 4 day trip out west.

Umm… yeah – I need help.

I guess I could have squeezed everything in the small suitcase, but then where would all the swag have gone? And trust me – there will be swag! πŸ˜‰

All I can say is thank goodness for Southwest and their free checked bag policy. That policy alone has made me a customer for life. Three cheers for Southwest!

There is ZERO food in my house and I was just too lazy to cook anything tonight. I debated stopping at a sub shop on the way home from errands this afternoon, but then i remembered these frozen Indian meals the Tandoor Chef team had sent me.

Out of the box and into the microwave it went!

I bulked the frozen meal up with some spinach, plain yogurt, and the last quarter of an avocado I had in the fridge.

The Chicken Tikka Masala was delicious! It was full of flavor and spice that paired perfectly with the cool and refreshing avocado and yogurt.

I’m actually excited to try the other frozen meals I have in the freezer. I’m not the biggest fan of frozen meals, but the indian dishes always tend to wine me over. Probably because no matter how much i try I can never exactly replicate that flavor at home. I think this is about as close as I am going to get without driving to an Indian restaurant and ordering straight from the menu. πŸ™‚

For dessert a serving of vanilla ice cream with granola and dark chocolate covered edamame.

Earlier I snacked on some carrots and the last of a container of hummus.

Munch, Munch, Munch

I am going to feel so underpacked compared to everyone else.

Good call on bringing business cards! The last time I used mine was… never. Oops. Now I will.

2 Sarah August 11, 2010 at 9:10 pm

I definitely want to go next year, as long as the blog takes off that is!

6 spoonandcherry August 11, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Aw. Wish I were going. It also cracked me up that you called Chicago “out west”. I live in Charlotte, but am originally from Minnesota. I think of California as “west”. I guess I amuse easily!

Have a great trip!

Can’t wait to hear all about the conference! I would loved to have gone but its a long way from Australia hehe

8 Kelly August 11, 2010 at 9:31 pm

I’m glad I’m not the only one that has a giant suitcase!!

But I am driving, so I didn’t try too hard since there were no baggage fees to avoid. πŸ™‚

9 runeatdatesleep August 11, 2010 at 9:33 pm

Can’t wait to see you there!

11 Melissa @ TryingToHeal August 11, 2010 at 9:39 pm

ahahahahhaha…big bag. i don’t even have luggage, just two backpacking backpacks! hahaha!

12 carly August 11, 2010 at 9:40 pm

LOL, I think I should give a class on packing lightly. I have a very small carry-on, and it lasted me on a five-day trip to New Orleans, and I was able to bring home plenty of souvenirs!

All the food looks great, but I’m mostly wanting that ice cream cone in the last pic …

Have a safe trip!

Have fun! Love the windy city! You’ll enjoy the trip! Be sure to spot out the marathon course. I ran it last year and I wish I would have had a little preview before hand

16 Lauren L. August 11, 2010 at 10:26 pm

I laughed when I read “out west!” Chicago is not really west πŸ™‚ I’ll be traveling back east from Kansas this weekend. Look forward to meeting you then!

17 Kristy August 11, 2010 at 10:39 pm

As a Southwest Airlines employee, your “three cheers” for my amazing company made me smile πŸ™‚ Enjoy the free checked bags! And have fun in Chicago!!

Please tell me there will be another HLS next year! I’m so bummed not to be there. I hope you all have a fabulous time though, which I just know you will. πŸ™‚

Have such a fabulous time in Chicago! I WISH I could go this year!

23 DiningAndDishing August 12, 2010 at 8:47 am

Yes, I’m not a big fan of frozen meals either, but the ones from Tandoor Chef are the exception! I love the chicken masala the best…it seriously tastes like a restaurant version!

Have fun this w/e :).

Oooh, have fun at the HLS! Can’t wait to see pictures and hear all about it!

25 biz319 August 12, 2010 at 11:24 am

Have fun in my town and safe travels!

When you get back, try my chicken tikka masala – its so simple it can be made on a weeknight and the combination of flavors will have you making it at least once a week!

26 Megan August 12, 2010 at 12:43 pm

Have an amazing time! Wish I could be there!

27 myFOODevents August 12, 2010 at 3:26 pm

Have fun at HLS! Can’t wait to hear all about it when you all get back πŸ™‚

I feel the same way about microwave meals and I love Indian microwave dinners. A store just had some on sale a few weeks ago and so I bought some to try and they were all really good. Usually I just don’t buy microwave meals because they tend to be one big disappointment.

29 Jessie August 16, 2010 at 2:48 pm

I know this is random, but what is the brand of that bag? I love it and would love to see if I could find it on Amazon.

30 Meghann August 16, 2010 at 2:52 pm

It’s DaKine!! LOVE IT!
