TGIF Giveaway

by Meghann on July 23, 2010

This morning I brought back an old favorite: Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.

If you will recall I had really good results when I did the 30 day challenge from start to finish (results here) over a year ago, but since then the DVD has sort of been collecting dust on my shelf. I had nothing else planned for this morning, so I decided to brush off the oldie, but goodie and give it another shot. Not the 30 day challenge, just the DVD in general.

Instead of doing one of the 20 minute work outs, I combined all three into an hour long session. I skipped the warm up and cool downs from the middle work outs in order to save time and energy.

I always forget how difficult the 30 Day Shred truly is. My arms and legs both felt like they got a great work out and I was reminded of ab moves I used to love to do. Maybe after this marathon is over I can do another round of the full 30 day challenge, but not for now the DVD every once in a while is just as satisfying. :)

I had a little extra time this morning, which means an extra delicious, creative treat was in order for breakfast.

SIAB <— Smoothie in a Bowl a la Kath :)

IMG_2482

Ingredients:

  • Frozen Pineapple
  • Frozen Mango
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Ice
  • Plain Yogurt
  • Amazing Grass
  • Almond Milk
  • PB2

Toppings:

  • Kashi Granola
  • Cacao Nibs
  • Rolled Dates  <— not a good smoothie topping. They froze and were chewy

IMG_2491

Smoothies tend to be a little bit of a pain to make on weekday mornings because I have to go through the process of getting the blender out, chopping all the fruits, selecting all the ingredients, putting everything way, cleaning everything, etc. But, when I do make the extra effort it’s always worth it.

And there’s something about eating a smoothie from a bowl that just makes me slow down and enjoy every little bite. yum! :)

TGIF Giveaway!

You know that blondies giveaway I’ve been promising for a while now? Well, here it is! Better late than never, right? ;)

My friend Amanda from Homemade by Amanda is offering up a random assortment of treats to one lucky Inner Workings… reader.

I’ve been enjoying Amanda’s blondies and treats for over a year now and let me just say that this is a prize worth commenting for! Trust me! Enter now and thank me later! Or, better yet, even if you don’t win; head to her online bakery and order something sweet. Again, order now and thank me later. :)

Here’s the rules: you have until tomorrow morning to leave a comment on this post stating your favorite baked treat. i.e. I’m a peanut butter cookie girl all the way. Yes, I love baked goods of all shapes and sizes, but when push comes to shove I will never turn down a peanut butter cookie. ;)

I will pick a random winner during my breakfast post tomorrow morning.

Think of this as my TGIF gift to you. Or rather, think of it as Amanda’s TGIF treat to you. ;)

Good Luck!!!

I’m a good old fashioned chocolate chip cookie kind of girl. I love them all! Soft-baked, crispy, nut-filled… when they’re warm out of the oven, the melty chocolate is hard to beat.

I’ve always been a brownie lover. That’s the first baked good I learned how to make because my great-grandma would let me stir the mix, pour it into the pan and lick the bowl (the best part!). Those memories have stuck with me ever since and to this day, nothing tops the brownie when it comes to sweets.

For my birthday, someone kind made me a chocolate beet cake with powdered sugar and whipped cream. It was the best baked good I think I’ve ever had. It was an amazing rich color, and the chocolate flavor was deeper and more complex than regular chocolate. Plus I suspect the beets kept it from giving you one of those plugs-directly-into-your-brain matrix-stylee sugar rushes! Oh, I’m thinking of it right now.

I live in Gainesville, FL and work next door to a really cute and funky “pizza place named Satchel’s. They make the BEST homemade desserts and I am addicted to their peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. They’re baked perfectly so that the chips still keep their shape. Love peanut butter, love chocolate, and really love those cookies. I recommend Satchel’s if you ever come to Gainesville.
