TGIF Giveaway

by Meghann on July 23, 2010

This morning I brought back an old favorite: Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.

If you will recall I had really good results when I did the 30 day challenge from start to finish (results here) over a year ago, but since then the DVD has sort of been collecting dust on my shelf. I had nothing else planned for this morning, so I decided to brush off the oldie, but goodie and give it another shot. Not the 30 day challenge, just the DVD in general.

Instead of doing one of the 20 minute work outs, I combined all three into an hour long session. I skipped the warm up and cool downs from the middle work outs in order to save time and energy.

I always forget how difficult the 30 Day Shred truly is. My arms and legs both felt like they got a great work out and I was reminded of ab moves I used to love to do. Maybe after this marathon is over I can do another round of the full 30 day challenge, but not for now the DVD every once in a while is just as satisfying. πŸ™‚

I had a little extra time this morning, which means an extra delicious, creative treat was in order for breakfast.

SIAB <— Smoothie in a Bowl a la Kath πŸ™‚

IMG_2482

Ingredients:

  • Frozen Pineapple
  • Frozen Mango
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Ice
  • Plain Yogurt
  • Amazing Grass
  • Almond Milk
  • PB2

Toppings:

  • Kashi Granola
  • Cacao Nibs
  • Rolled Dates  <— not a good smoothie topping. They froze and were chewy

IMG_2491

Smoothies tend to be a little bit of a pain to make on weekday mornings because I have to go through the process of getting the blender out, chopping all the fruits, selecting all the ingredients, putting everything way, cleaning everything, etc. But, when I do make the extra effort it’s always worth it.

And there’s something about eating a smoothie from a bowl that just makes me slow down and enjoy every little bite. yum! πŸ™‚

TGIF Giveaway!

You know that blondies giveaway I’ve been promising for a while now? Well, here it is! Better late than never, right? πŸ˜‰

My friend Amanda from Homemade by Amanda is offering up a random assortment of treats to one lucky Inner Workings… reader.

I’ve been enjoying Amanda’s blondies and treats for over a year now and let me just say that this is a prize worth commenting for! Trust me! Enter now and thank me later! Or, better yet, even if you don’t win; head to her online bakery and order something sweet. Again, order now and thank me later. πŸ™‚

Here’s the rules: you have until tomorrow morning to leave a comment on this post stating your favorite baked treat. i.e. I’m a peanut butter cookie girl all the way. Yes, I love baked goods of all shapes and sizes, but when push comes to shove I will never turn down a peanut butter cookie. πŸ˜‰

I will pick a random winner during my breakfast post tomorrow morning.

Think of this as my TGIF gift to you. Or rather, think of it as Amanda’s TGIF treat to you. πŸ˜‰

Good Luck!!!

1 Katie July 23, 2010 at 9:02 am

I’m a good old fashioned chocolate chip cookie kind of girl. I love them all! Soft-baked, crispy, nut-filled… when they’re warm out of the oven, the melty chocolate is hard to beat.

29 Amanda July 23, 2010 at 9:14 am

Lately, I’ve been craving a soft, chewy snickerdoodle cookie, but most of the time I love a good old fashioned sugar cookie. I’m VERY particular about the softness and thickness though…for good reason, of course! πŸ˜‰ Cookies done right are little baked balls of heaven!

67 Amanda @ AmandaOnFoot July 23, 2010 at 9:28 am

I’ve always been a brownie lover. That’s the first baked good I learned how to make because my great-grandma would let me stir the mix, pour it into the pan and lick the bowl (the best part!). Those memories have stuck with me ever since and to this day, nothing tops the brownie when it comes to sweets.

~Amanda

I actually don’t bake much unless it is a special occassion because I have trouble with portion control. But I would love to win this goodie package from Amanda, or even buy them myself from her website. I know I would savor each of her goodies and make them last!

There is a place near me called the Sweet Shop and they have something called Clown Cookies. It is a sugar cookie topped with tons of delicious colorful buttercream frosting to look like a clown…my all time favorite treat!

My wife’s red velvet cake with cream cheese icing

148 atastelife July 23, 2010 at 10:04 am

Love smoothies in a bowl – but my favorite baked treat is by far a fresh-out-of-the-oven-fudge-brownie. Oh and a scoop of icecream on top wouldn’t hurt.

149 Exercise and Eat July 23, 2010 at 10:05 am

Black and white cookies! Have yet to master them at home:)

150 Jessica July 23, 2010 at 10:06 am

152 Cristin July 23, 2010 at 10:06 am

There’s a bakery here (Chicago) that has something called a “cake ball” that is basically ends from the cakes they trim, rolled into a ball and then dipped in frosting. Heavenly. One of my favorites for sure!

153 Amy July 23, 2010 at 10:07 am

I think a really good homemade blondie would be my favorite baked good, but I never ever eat them!! –mainly because I’ve never made them myself. I came from a brownie family and only ever had a blondie at some kind of potluck event. I guess I should find a good recipe and change this situation…and cross my fingers that I win this giveaway!!

185 Angela July 23, 2010 at 10:31 am

Cake – tie between carrot cake and red velvet (I really just love the cream cheese frosting πŸ™‚ )
Bread – banana
Cookie – white macadamia nut
Bar/brownie – Nutella bars

186 Rebekah W. July 23, 2010 at 10:31 am

I just started making these flourless peanut butter and banana cookies that are out of this world. I don’t cook them all the way, so they come out a little bit like dough balls….yum!

187 carly July 23, 2010 at 10:32 am

LOL, apparently the way to get people to comment is to give brownies away. πŸ™‚

202 Erin@ erineatsandexercises July 23, 2010 at 10:40 am

My family recently threw a surprise 60th birthday party for my father and instead of having a traditional cake we had a cupcake tower. A few friends of the family baked and contributed cupcakes to the tower. There ended up being about 5 varieties (yes, I sampled them all) but favorite had to be the margarita cupcakes. Light, sweet, and non-traditional and absolutely delicious!

245 Samantha July 23, 2010 at 11:06 am

Any sort of cookie made with oats and I’m sold! Oats make any cookie taste a little healthier while still decadent : )

246 thedailyoatmeal July 23, 2010 at 11:07 am

My favorite baked good is definitely a quality oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Not everyone can make these well…it needs to be the right consistency and not overly sweet. I’m picky, but man, when it’s right, all is good in the world πŸ™‚

274 Ashley July 23, 2010 at 11:38 am

My favorite treat is ANYTHING with chocolate. Literally, anything!!

275 Alison July 23, 2010 at 11:39 am

For my birthday, someone kind made me a chocolate beet cake with powdered sugar and whipped cream. It was the best baked good I think I’ve ever had. It was an amazing rich color, and the chocolate flavor was deeper and more complex than regular chocolate. Plus I suspect the beets kept it from giving you one of those plugs-directly-into-your-brain matrix-stylee sugar rushes! Oh, I’m thinking of it right now.

276 Melissa July 23, 2010 at 11:41 am

This is a hard one because I am a sweets addict (my road ID says, “Dessert is waiting”)… I would say that my favorites are oatmeal raisin cookies and anything involving peanut butter. I am oddly enough not a big chocolate person, but I make up for that with other desserts!

277 JW July 23, 2010 at 11:43 am

Hard to pick! Probably brownies.

278 Liz @ Tip Top Shape July 23, 2010 at 11:43 am

My favorite baked good is a lemon poppyseed muffin. Argo Tea has AMAZING ones and they are vegan which isn’t really a consideration for me but I find it pretty cool anyway πŸ˜€

279 Brianna July 23, 2010 at 11:45 am

Cake! It’s a guilty pleasure, but I couldn’t probably eat an entire cake in one sitting! No icing though, and the cake has to be light and fluffy, not dense and pound cake-y.

280 Judy July 23, 2010 at 11:46 am

Chocolate chip peanut butter cookies fresh from the over- ok, now I’m drooling! But I can’t say I’m really that picky πŸ™‚

287 gloriousgreens July 23, 2010 at 11:51 am

I love a good oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, however there is a bakery here in Madison that makes an out of this world rhubarb bar. I have no clue what’s in it, but it’s delicious. Stroopwaffels from my study abroad in holland will always be near and dear to my heart as well.

I’ve been trying to decide whether to try the 30 day shred! I want to, but I don’t want to spend the money if it won’t be worth it…. I’ve heard all good things so far, though!
Is it something I can do in a semi-small apartment or do I need more room to move around?!

319 Alyssa July 23, 2010 at 12:43 pm

Brownies! I love cakes and cookies but something about that chewy fudginess just makes brownies amazing. 30 Day Shred shocks every time with how hard it is too! Can’t believe you did all three….one time I did just 2 and 3 and thought I was going to die!

My mom’s chocolate chip cookies are my favorite, and she finally gave me the recipe, so I can make them on my own! (Except I use dark chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate. Everything tastes better with dark chocolate.)

So simple, but a classic dessert that never fails πŸ™‚

I live in Gainesville, FL and work next door to a really cute and funky “pizza place named Satchel’s. They make the BEST homemade desserts and I am addicted to their peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. They’re baked perfectly so that the chips still keep their shape. Love peanut butter, love chocolate, and really love those cookies. I recommend Satchel’s if you ever come to Gainesville.
