A Visiting Blog Friend

by Meghann on July 8, 2010

One of the major pluses of living in the Orlando area is the fact that it is essentially the vacation capital of the world. Everyone comes here!

I mean, admit it – at one point or another you have vacationed in the beautiful Orlando area. Whether it be to visit Mickey Mouse or to escape to the beach, you’ve been here! My only hope is that during that stay you ventured outside of International Drive/Disney World and were able to experience what Orlando truly has to offer.

When one of my favorite vegan blogging friends e-mailed me to let me know she would be in town this week and whether I could meet for lunch, I immediately responded with a list of my favorite vegan restaurants that most visitors will probably never have a chance to experience. I wanted to prove to her that Orlando has so much more to offer than Disney World.

In the end we met for lunch at Dandelion Cafe – a hippie vegan cafe located just east of downtown.

I’ve been to Dandelion Cafe many times in the past and always enjoy the peace, love, and tranquility vibe you experience as soon as you walk in. It’s a small place with a small menu, but has a lot of heart and soul to it.

Strawberry Black just happened to be the iced tea of the day and I enjoyed 2 glasses of the unsweetened fruity concoction.

And even though it’s sweltering outside, I couldn’t pass up the famous Dandelion Cafe Chili.

Even on a hot day, this small cup was good.

I tried to even out the warm chili with an order of cool hummus.

I’m pretty sure my dining partner, Nicole from www.rambunctiouslysoftspoken.com, enjoyed her meal as well. 🙂

Though we’ve never met in person, I’ve been following Nicole on her multiple baking, cooking, and photography blogs for almost 2 years now. It was great to finally meet her in person! There was no awkward silences during lunch just lots of chatting about cameras, blogs, Harry Potter World, and the upcoming Healthy Living Summit.

I actually purchased by Canon Rebel T1I from Nicole back in November and in August she will be leading the photography presentation at HLS. I think I almost have her talked into letting me assist her for the presentation. 😉 She’s a self taught photographer with a lot of knowledge and takes GORGEOUS photos! (see her flickr page to see what I’m talking about! ) I’m sure I could find some way to make myself useful during the class!

Earlier this morning I had 3 fresh figs for a snack.

Figs are amazing whether they are fresh, roasted, grilled, or dried. Mmm…mmm..mmm… good!

I head to Orlando every February and it’s true — I don’t get far beyond International Drive! I should start writing down these restaurant recommendations for Feb 2011!

A lot of my family lives in Orlando, but I’ve never gotten the chance to explore it.

I wish there were a restaurant like that out here! Your lunch looks so yummy! 😀

The 9 minus the 1 and the 2 plus the 6? That might be stretching it, but it works. Sorry, I’ve never been to Orlando… maybe some day.

I am coming to Orlando over Thanksgiving and I am definitely making a trip to Dandelion – yum!

Also, do you love your Rebel T1i? I am thinking of purchasing it this weekend!
