Maddie does NOT like Fireworks

by Meghann on July 4, 2010

Bad News: It’s raining and I’m too lazy to go any where for fireworks

Good News: I have no need to go anywhere. I can see bright , beautiful fireworks right from my balcony! Score!

Happy Birthday America! :)

The close fireworks may be a bad thing as well. My poor puppy is so scared right now. :(

There are popping noises of local fireworks going off everywhere and Maddie has yet to leave my side! She follows me from one side of the room to the next, then proceeds to lay across my feet and shake. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her so scared before.

I’m doing what any good puppy mommy would do by trying to cover up the firework noises with obnoxiously loud Glee and extra yummy treats, but nothing seems to be working.

Anyone know how to calm a shaky pup?

Derek and I took it easy this afternoon and saw Eclipse at the movie theater.

The movie was actually just ok. I think Kristen Stewart’s and Robert Pattison’s acting skills are actually getting worse with each film. And don’t get me started on the new Victoria! She looked too made up and just overall fake – like a knock off or something. Grrr…

I did enjoy how closely they stuck to the book and I thought they did Rosalee and Jasper’s back story really well. Overall I would give the movie a solid B if you’re a fan and a C- if you’ve never read the book – Derek was pretty clueless the whole film on what was going on. :)

By the time the movie let out I was ready for dinner, but didn’t want a huge meal. Instead I made a plate of carrots with almond butter, brussel sprouts, and left over plantains.

Dessert was a handful of Kix and chocolate dipped strawberries. :)

And just for giggles (and because I was having way too much fun reminiscing through old photos today) I present a collage through Fourth of July Memory Lane

What is your favorite fourth of July memory?

Looking back I would have to say mine was Lake Eola fireworks with my friends in 2008. I <3 those girls so much. :)

Happy Indpendence Day!

by Meghann on July 4, 2010

April’s wedding was a blast last night, but waking up with a pounding head and an empty stomach was not.

I was wide awake by 7:00 am thanks to my headache, but was a good girlfriend/ sister/ daughter by keeping myself busy with blogging and Facebook instead of waking everyone else up to entertain me. I had to show great restraint on that one. :)

After an hour my stomach couldn’t take it anymore and I gave in by texting everyone else for breakfast.

We headed down the street to IHop where I took advantage of the ‘IHop for Me’ menu.

IMG_1247.JPG

I ordered the whole wheat french toast combo that came with scrambled eggs and turkey bacon.

IMG_1253.JPG

I’m not a fan of regular syrup, but love the strawberry syrup IHop has. Yum! :)

My body was craving water, so I also ordered the not-worth-six-dollar fruit bowl.

We watched the bride and groom open some wedding gifts after breakfast – I want to get married and register for ultra-cool kitchen gadgets!!! – and then wished them well on their 7-day honeymoon cruise!

Bon Voyage April and Jason!!

The plan was to play in the sand at the beach all day and watch fireworks, but the weather pretty much sucked for that activity. Instead we decided to just take a lesuirely stroll before heading home.

On the way back to my parents I split a bowl of fruit with Derek

And had a Cashew Cookie Larabar.

For lunch everyone pitched in to create a seafood feast!

IMG_1274.JPG

We had fried fish, homemade crab cakes, homemade coleslaw, potato salad, plantains, corn, potato rolls, and homemade cocktail sauce.

So much good food! I had a little bit of everything. :)

Mmm…. the perfect Fourth of July meal. We were going to cook out, but the weather was not cooperating. I think our fish fry was a nice compromise. :)

I would love to say that Derek and I had big plans to celebrate the Fourth of July, but we don’t. I think we’re both still recovering from all the celebrating we did last night. ;) Thank goodness it’s a three day weekend!

I think the plan is to go see a movie and maybe catch the tail end of a random fireworks display if possible. That plan sounds like a winner in my opinion!

Have a great Fourth of July everyone!

April & Jason Get Hitched!

July 4, 2010

Last night one of my oldest childhood friends got married. I think we’ve been dreaming of this day for as long as we’ve known each other and I can’t believe the time has already come and past. Congrats to April and Jason on a beautiful wedding and one hoppin’ reception. Here’s to many years of more ยป
