Pre-Triathlon Chow Down

by Meghann on May 22, 2010

Want to know what my favorite pre-race meal is?

Pizza!

Specifically homemade pizza using Publix pizza dough that can be found in the bakery section.

Derek and I split the dough in half and made two large pizzas – one for me and one for him. :)

We had a plethora of toppings to choose from.

I had 1/2 of my pizza with the rest of the brussel sprouts from last night’s dinner.

Tomorrow I am racing in my SECOND sprint triathlon! Eekk!!!

Can you believe it was over a year ago that I was competing in my first?

DSCN2740.JPG

I’ll never forget that race. It was the week after my sister’s accident and I swam, biked, and ran in her honor.

It was one of the most exciting races I’ve ever competed in thanks to the extra support and transitions.

I actually can’t believe I let so much time go between tris – I hope to not let that be the case again. :)

Last year my official finish time was 1:36:44.146 This year I am aiming for around 1:30:00. I feel much more prepared this time around and really feel like I can kick some serious booty tomorrow morning. Let’s hope all that training paid off!

All my gear is laid out.

And the alarm has been set! Ready or not, here I come!! :)

Good Night!

Aquatic Adventures

by Meghann on May 22, 2010

Today I was a fish.

DSCF6190.JPG

A pink headed, goggle eyed fish, of course. ;)

My sprint triathlon is bright and early tomorrow morning and I wanted to get one last open water swim in before the big day. My one goal for tomorrow is to not be the last one out of the water again. Hopefully these open water training swims will pay off. I already feel more confident in the water than my last tri. ;)

Two weeks ago my cousin’s wife Candice joined me at Lucky Lake and had been raving about it ever since. She met me at the lake at 7:45 this morning ready to do it all over again.

DSCF6184.JPG

Lucky gave his traditional “please try not to drown” speech, his dog gave a great big “woof,” and 150 swimmers headed to the water and were off.

DSCF6186.JPG

Can you spot me in the pink?

DSCF6188.JPG

My swim was great. I felt strong and confident with each stroke. I still need to work on stronger kicks. I think if I can just kick a little harder, then I would have no problem kickng a little booty in the water. :)

DSCF6191.JPG

I made it back in 25 or so minutes, the waited for Candice to come in.

DSCF6197.JPG

Candice didn’t have a chance to sign her name on the wall last time, so we made sure she got her name on the wall of fame this time. :)

After a quick change Candice, Derek, and I met my cousin Bobby and their daughter Abbygail for breakfast at First Watch.

DSCF6221.JPG

I swear I could sit and watch Abbygail eat breakfast all day long. She is ADORABLE!

Abbygail’s eggs and toast did look tasty, but I decided to go with the Carrot Cake Pancake and fruit bowl for my own breakfast.

DSCF6210.JPG

The carrot cake pancake was full of shredded carrot and raisins. It was also very sweet and full of sugar. Each bite was delicious, but I was hoping for a little more carrot cake spice to it. :)

DSCF6211.JPG

No breakfast is ever complete without a big bowl of fruit in my mind. :)

As part of our all inclusive Discovery Cove package last weekend Derek and I received two complimentary passes to our choice of Aquatica or Sea World. We picked Aquatica.

DSCF6222.JPG

Aquatica is Sea World’s newish water park that both Derek and I had never been to. We had heard mixed reviews on the place and wanted to judge it for ourselves.

DSCF6227.JPG

Let’s just say growing up outside of Orlando I have been to my fair share of water parks. From Blizzard Beach to Wet & Wild to Typhoon Lagoon to Water Mania, I’ve been to them all. Most of them several times over. And compared to all those parks Aquatica is merely Meh.

DSCF6237.JPG

The park was small, the rides were all roughly the same, the wave pool wasn’t working, and the place was packed. Derek and I were there for a little less than 3 hours before we decided to leave. I feel good that our trip was just an ‘add-on’ I would not have been happy if I paid $50 to get in the door.

Derek and I still managed to have a good time, but I think it’s hard to have a bad time when we’re together. :)

On the way home we stopped at Whole Foods for lunch.

DSCF6266.JPG

DSCF6271.JPG

We split a turkey sandwich on ciabatta bread with provolone, lettuce tomato, peppers, and spicy mustard.

DSCF6273.JPG

We also split a hot bar salad of random fixins.

DSCF6274.JPG

I did a great job picking out the salad toppings. This was a very flavorful and satisfying lunch. :)

DSCF6275.JPG

I’m wiped. I think a mid-day nap may be in order. ;)

Have a great Saturday!
