Silk Pure Almond Giveaway

by Meghann on May 12, 2010

Happy Hump Day!

Don’t worry folks – we’re already halfway through the week! ;)

This morning I took off on a 4 mile-ish run. I’m calling it 4 mile-ish because I deviated from my normal route and lord only knows how far I actually ran without my garmin (and I’m too lazy to check out mapmyrun.com ;) ).

I did make it back before 6:40 am, so no matter how far my route actually was it was still within the time I had been counting on.

By the way, guess who saw themselves on tv this morning?!?! ME!

They started playing the Chevy Girl on the Go commercials on WESH Channel 2, so if you are in the Orlando area be on the look out for my lovely face (and Caitlin’s too!!) :)

The commercial popped on during the Today Show while I was eating breakfast.

IMG_7069

Breakfast was a lovely container of Overnight Oats in a Yogurt Container.

IMG_7074

  • vanilla yogurt
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • Silk Original Pure Almond Milk (Freebie <—stay tuned for giveaway below)
  • cacao nibs
  • craisins
  • naturally nutty cinnamon vanilla sunflower butter
  • cinnamon
  • kiwi
  • honey puffs

Overnight oats are quickly becoming my favorite post-hot run meal. It’s such a refreshing way to start the day.

Silk Pure Almond Giveaway

SilkPureAlmondLogo

I was sent a coupon a few weeks ago for the new Silk Pure Almond Milk to sample and review on the blog. The only almond milk I’ve had the pleasure of tasting in the past has been the Almond Breeze Almond Milk and I have to be honest when I say I can’t taste the difference between the two. I’ve never been one to drink the almond milk straight shudders but I do enjoy it as an alternative to regular milk in smoothies, overnight oats, and in baked goods.

sk_HG_PureAlmdOrig 20100304I can tell you that I’m not a fan of the Vanilla Almond Breeze – it just tastes off to me when mixed in smoothies – and because of that have no plans of trying the vanilla version of Silk’s almond milk. The original is A-OK in my books. :) And depending on which one is cheaper at the time ( Silk v Almond Breeze ) will probably be the one that I purchase. ;)

But, don’t take my word for it, here’s a chance for you to try for yourself!

The people have silk have provided me with an additional coupon for a FREE half gallon of Pure Silk Almond Milk and a Silk Pure Almond branded Chico Bag to giveaway to one lucky reader. (US residents only please!)

To enter simply leave a comment on this post with your favorite use for almond milk. Maybe you can give me some ideas! ;)

You have until tomorrow morning to enter when I will pick a random winner in my morning post!

Good Luck!!!

Ok Meghann…I’m not sure I can make it through marathon training with this heat and humidity…HELP!

I LOVE almond milk! I seriously use it in everything (GM’s, cereal, baking, etc). I’ve never really been able to handle cow-milk, so almond milk is a really good alternative. It’s all I buy!

I love almond milk! My dad actually had the Silk brand in his fridge this weekend. It was vanilla though and far too sweet. I’d love to try the original!! I use it in everything, being that I’m lactose intolerant. But I think my favorite is in nice big fluffy waffles! :D

I always set my alarm early with the good intention of getting up and getting my work out on…and I inevitably hit the snooze button. Which turns out to be a giant pain in the tush, because (like you) I live in Orlando and lord knows that if you want to beat the heat, you have to beat the sun. What helps you get so diligently out of bed and hitting the pavement every morning?

Oh my! I use almond milk for EVERYTHING! I never drank milk growing up, and I continued to avoid it as an adult. I will use soy occasionally, but it definitely has a distinct taste. When I first tried almond milk, I was hooked! It tastes exactly like what I always thought regular milk should taste like (if that makes sense!). I use unsweeted regular or vanilla, depending on the use. My morning iced coffee, lattes, baking/cooking (pancakes, cookies, muffins, etc.), smoothies, oatmeal, mac ‘n cheese–I use it anytime I’d use regular milk!

Mmmm, I love almond milk! In the last few months I’ve noticed the Silk vs. Almond Breeze pricing wars at the grocery store. I buy whichever one is cheaper since they both taste the same to me. Hey, I’m a price sensitive girl!! I use it in cereal, oatmeal and make an after workout chocolate milk with it. Mmmm!

I use AM in anything I’d put regular milk in. I, like you, can’t handle drinking milk. After reading parts of Skinny Bitch, all I can think about is it sitting in my intestines fermenting like they said the meat does. Ugh! Probably my favorite use though is in plain cereal. It has a slightly sweet taste that makes regular Cheerios taste like they’re frosted – without the added sugar. SCORE!

I use almond milk in my carrot ginger soup. It thickens up the base nicely and gives it a slightly nutty sweetness. Yummy! I also (of course!) love it in smoothies, oatmeal, overnight oats, and as a before-bed hot cocoa treat with unsweetened cocoa powder and a little bit of Stevia. It’s my favorite!

I’m sorry to be that annoying commenter w/ a grammar objection (usually I can contain myself). “Shudder” is the shiver you make when you’re grossed out, and “shutters” are the wooden things next to your windows. I see this all the time on blogs, and for some reason I feel compelled to alert the blogger more than there/their/they’re confusion, misspellings, or even plural/posessive/contraction confusion. I’m a nerd.

A banana, other miscellaneous fruit (strawberries, blueberries, mango, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, whatever strikes my fancy) a cup of almond milk and a scoop of hemp protein powder – sometimes chocolate, sometimes vanilla. Yum!

When my brother and I were little we were supposed to have a glass of milk each night with dinner but didn’t like the taste of plain milk. Mom added vanilla extract and a scant teaspoon of sugar to each of our glasses to make it more kid-friendly. The Vanilla Silk tastes just like that, only better. I’ve been using it in smoothies, overnight oats, and mixing with iced tea to make an iced tea latte as an afternoon snack.

We don’t use any dairy, so I use almond milk for almost all of my cooking as opposed to soy milk, and use it daily in smoothies and oatmeal and over cereal, but my favorite is almond milk pudding.

Cottage cheese mixed with cinnamon…top with chopped fresh fruit (Strawberries, peaches, blackberries and half a banana or whatever you have on hand) and either apricots or dates…pour some almond milk then top it off with granola (trader joe’s lowfat granola with almonds) and crushed whole roasted almonds and flaxseeds and enjoy. It’s so good once you get to the cottage cheese, the tastiest concoction! =) The reason why I pour the almond milk in first is because who likes soggy granola?

Oh my gosh, the second I tried Silk Pure Almond, I was hooked — no other brand of almond milk will do for this girl anymore! I even started following them on Twitter just so I could tell them how amazing their almond milk is every time I drink it. Try the vanilla — it tastes like a (natural) vanilla shake!
I have been buying a carton of this stuff a week ever since it came out, and I use it in everything. It’s the first almond milk I’ve tried that actually mixes in well with my coffee, and it is delicious on cereal! Two huge thumbs up! :)

I’ve never tried almond milk, but I imagine it’d be fantastic in oatmeal or cereal! I can’t wait to try it in my favorite kashi cereal…and wait for the cereal to absorb the milk and turn nice and soft with almond-ness.

I went to the store to get pudding to make a chocolate pudding pie. I remembered that I had almond silk and am going to make the pie with that to see how it turns out. I made a mistake and accidentally bought one instant pudding and one cook & serve. I’m not 100% sure how I’m going to do this yet but I will figure something out and post another comment when I’m done.

OK…. I read online that instant pudding doesn’t do well without the proteins found in real milk so I made the pudding with skim milk as directed. However, the cook and serve variety of pudding should be fine with half almond silk & half regular milk according to multiple online sources. I successfully prepared the cook & serve pudding this way. I put the cook and serve in the graham cracker pie shell and allowed it to set up in the refrigerator. Then, I spread the instant pudding on top of the cook & serve, allowed the pie to chill in the fridge,’ and last I topped it with whipped cream and Hersey’s milk chocolate shavings. It was delicious. It may bot be as healthy as it could have been if the pudding would have set up with just almond Silk but it’s a good way of lowering calories by substituting some of the milk for Silk. I apologize to all the vegans. If it makes you feel a little better I totally made a fool of myself during this whole process. I opened both packages of pudding and completely forgot which was instant. Luckily when I poured a little milk into a cup and sprinkled a bit of pudding powder from one of the bags into it, it to congealed properly.. That told me that this package was instant pudding mix. If I would have used my brain however, I could have avoided that nonsense all together. :-) Nevertheless, I managed to make a great dessert. I read that you may get instant pudding to set up properly with almond Silk by reducing the amount of Silk by half the originally called for milk. I may try that next time.
