Silk Pure Almond Giveaway

by Meghann on May 12, 2010

Happy Hump Day!

Don’t worry folks – we’re already halfway through the week! πŸ˜‰

This morning I took off on a 4 mile-ish run. I’m calling it 4 mile-ish because I deviated from my normal route and lord only knows how far I actually ran without my garmin (and I’m too lazy to check out mapmyrun.com πŸ˜‰ ).

I did make it back before 6:40 am, so no matter how far my route actually was it was still within the time I had been counting on.

By the way, guess who saw themselves on tv this morning?!?! ME!

They started playing the Chevy Girl on the Go commercials on WESH Channel 2, so if you are in the Orlando area be on the look out for my lovely face (and Caitlin’s too!!) πŸ™‚

The commercial popped on during the Today Show while I was eating breakfast.

IMG_7069

Breakfast was a lovely container of Overnight Oats in a Yogurt Container.

IMG_7074

  • vanilla yogurt
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • Silk Original Pure Almond Milk (Freebie <β€”stay tuned for giveaway below)
  • cacao nibs
  • craisins
  • naturally nutty cinnamon vanilla sunflower butter
  • cinnamon
  • kiwi
  • honey puffs

Overnight oats are quickly becoming my favorite post-hot run meal. It’s such a refreshing way to start the day.

Silk Pure Almond Giveaway

SilkPureAlmondLogo

I was sent a coupon a few weeks ago for the new Silk Pure Almond Milk to sample and review on the blog. The only almond milk I’ve had the pleasure of tasting in the past has been the Almond Breeze Almond Milk and I have to be honest when I say I can’t taste the difference between the two. I’ve never been one to drink the almond milk straight shudders but I do enjoy it as an alternative to regular milk in smoothies, overnight oats, and in baked goods.

sk_HG_PureAlmdOrig 20100304I can tell you that I’m not a fan of the Vanilla Almond Breeze – it just tastes off to me when mixed in smoothies – and because of that have no plans of trying the vanilla version of Silk’s almond milk. The original is A-OK in my books. πŸ™‚ And depending on which one is cheaper at the time ( Silk v Almond Breeze ) will probably be the one that I purchase. πŸ˜‰

But, don’t take my word for it, here’s a chance for you to try for yourself!

The people have silk have provided me with an additional coupon for a FREE half gallon of Pure Silk Almond Milk and a Silk Pure Almond branded Chico Bag to giveaway to one lucky reader. (US residents only please!)

To enter simply leave a comment on this post with your favorite use for almond milk. Maybe you can give me some ideas! πŸ˜‰

You have until tomorrow morning to enter when I will pick a random winner in my morning post!

Good Luck!!!

I’m sure I’m going to be one of bazillion, but seriously love it in my GM.

Ok Meghann…I’m not sure I can make it through marathon training with this heat and humidity…HELP!

2 Evan Thomas May 12, 2010 at 9:01 am

I like to use almond milk in making vegan fudge!

3 Sarah May 12, 2010 at 9:04 am

on cereal!

4 alexisashley May 12, 2010 at 9:04 am

I LOVE almond milk! I seriously use it in everything (GM’s, cereal, baking, etc). I’ve never really been able to handle cow-milk, so almond milk is a really good alternative. It’s all I buy!

5 britchickruns May 12, 2010 at 9:05 am

Yay for worldwide fame beckoning you!!
Hmm..I’ve tried almond milk once in my life, just chugged straight out of the holder πŸ˜› It was good though!

6 Leah May 12, 2010 at 9:05 am

I love almond milk! My dad actually had the Silk brand in his fridge this weekend. It was vanilla though and far too sweet. I’d love to try the original!! I use it in everything, being that I’m lactose intolerant. But I think my favorite is in nice big fluffy waffles! πŸ˜€

7 Lindsey Wilkins May 12, 2010 at 9:06 am

I actually have never tried almond milk before! But I would love to use it my oatmeal!!

8 fitandfortysomething May 12, 2010 at 9:07 am

9 mal May 12, 2010 at 9:07 am

10 Shellie May 12, 2010 at 9:10 am

cereal!!!

11 Keri @ Baby Spinach Steps May 12, 2010 at 9:10 am

I always set my alarm early with the good intention of getting up and getting my work out on…and I inevitably hit the snooze button. Which turns out to be a giant pain in the tush, because (like you) I live in Orlando and lord knows that if you want to beat the heat, you have to beat the sun. What helps you get so diligently out of bed and hitting the pavement every morning?

12 K May 12, 2010 at 9:11 am

In baked oatmeal! Or with iced coffee.

13 jess May 12, 2010 at 9:12 am

I love it in any and all smoothies! Really kicks it up a notch!

14 Debbie~ May 12, 2010 at 9:13 am

I love original almond milk in everything that I would normally use milk for. I love it in smoothies, baked goods, and even in my cereal…it’s delicious!

15 Adrienne May 12, 2010 at 9:14 am

I love using almond milk in green monsters!

16 laura t. May 12, 2010 at 9:14 am

love using it in smoothies!

17 Jaime May 12, 2010 at 9:15 am

Oh my! I use almond milk for EVERYTHING! I never drank milk growing up, and I continued to avoid it as an adult. I will use soy occasionally, but it definitely has a distinct taste. When I first tried almond milk, I was hooked! It tastes exactly like what I always thought regular milk should taste like (if that makes sense!). I use unsweeted regular or vanilla, depending on the use. My morning iced coffee, lattes, baking/cooking (pancakes, cookies, muffins, etc.), smoothies, oatmeal, mac ‘n cheese–I use it anytime I’d use regular milk!

18 Mary Beth May 12, 2010 at 9:16 am

Mmmm, I love almond milk! In the last few months I’ve noticed the Silk vs. Almond Breeze pricing wars at the grocery store. I buy whichever one is cheaper since they both taste the same to me. Hey, I’m a price sensitive girl!! I use it in cereal, oatmeal and make an after workout chocolate milk with it. Mmmm!

19 Jenny May 12, 2010 at 9:17 am

I love almond milk mixed with sweet potato to make a DYN-O-MITE mashed sweet potato to eat alone or on top of a vegan casserole!!

20 atastelife May 12, 2010 at 9:17 am

Green monsters!!! I still have to have my skim cow’s milk for coffee in the AM. It’s a must.

21 AmandaK May 12, 2010 at 9:18 am

Almond milk is by far my favorite milk. I don’t drink regular milk and I never liked soy. My favorite use for it is in my morning coffee — it just isn’t the same without it!

22 Kathryn May 12, 2010 at 9:20 am

I’ve only used almond milk a few times but I’d love to try it in overnight oats (those are my new obsession too!)

23 Christi May 12, 2010 at 9:22 am

I like to use it in my cereal, smoothies & iced coffee.. YUM!!

24 Nicole May 12, 2010 at 9:23 am

I like to use the Vanilla Silk Almond Milk in my Fitnessista inspired breakfast cookies! I have used it in smoothies as well and it tastes good to me!

25 Jess May 12, 2010 at 9:24 am

I only drink almond milk and I find Silk’s to be SO much better. Less sweet than Almond Breeze!! I use it in my amazing grass shakes or on cereal or in coffee!!

26 jenny May 12, 2010 at 9:26 am

im not that creative…just cereal and milk 4 me πŸ˜›

27 Emily G. May 12, 2010 at 9:32 am

I use AM in anything I’d put regular milk in. I, like you, can’t handle drinking milk. After reading parts of Skinny Bitch, all I can think about is it sitting in my intestines fermenting like they said the meat does. Ugh! Probably my favorite use though is in plain cereal. It has a slightly sweet taste that makes regular Cheerios taste like they’re frosted – without the added sugar. SCORE!

28 gavrielski May 12, 2010 at 9:32 am

I use almond milk in my carrot ginger soup. It thickens up the base nicely and gives it a slightly nutty sweetness. Yummy! I also (of course!) love it in smoothies, oatmeal, overnight oats, and as a before-bed hot cocoa treat with unsweetened cocoa powder and a little bit of Stevia. It’s my favorite!

29 Kate May 12, 2010 at 9:39 am

I love it in smoothies and protein ice cream! delicious!

30 Jess May 12, 2010 at 9:40 am

I love almond milk in smoothies, in place of regular milk in baking, especially biscuits or muffins. MMMMM.

31 Britton May 12, 2010 at 9:41 am

I love putting almond milk in my coffee. It’s the perfect substitute for creamer.

32 samantha May 12, 2010 at 9:43 am

s-s-s-s-smoothies! i love the taste of almond milk, it adds a lil’ something something.

33 maren May 12, 2010 at 9:44 am

i love adding almond milk to my banana soft serve, along with almond butter!

34 Ashley May 12, 2010 at 9:47 am

i love putting chocolate almond milk in my GMs

35 Alison May 12, 2010 at 9:51 am

I love using it for overnight oats! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the giveaway.

36 theprocessofhealing May 12, 2010 at 9:56 am

37 Danielle May 12, 2010 at 10:04 am

I have never liked milk, even as a kid, and as I’ve gotten older it has really irritated my stomach. I use almond milk for everything…smoothies, oatmeal, cereal, and in my coffee! I would love a gallon of it!

38 Lauren May 12, 2010 at 10:04 am

I’ve never tried almond milk! I’m broke so I’m too scared to buy a container in case I end up not liking it!

39 Julie May 12, 2010 at 10:07 am

Making AB “sauce” topping for oats – almond butter, almond milk and maple syrup. Yummm!

40 Britt May 12, 2010 at 10:07 am

My favorite use for Almond Milk would have to be green monsters.

41 Lauren May 12, 2010 at 10:08 am

42 jen May 12, 2010 at 10:09 am

i love using almond milk in cereal as a nighttime snack!

43 Katie May 12, 2010 at 10:11 am

I use it in oatmeal, baking, cereal, and most especially when I make any dessert! It gives your dessert a nice flavor without being too sweet!

44 Ali May 12, 2010 at 10:12 am

Almond milk is awesome for GM!

45 Nicole of Raspberry Stethoscope May 12, 2010 at 10:13 am

I LOVE almond milk and have almost exclusively eliminated buying cow’s milk. I used it in my banana oatmeal

46 Jessica May 12, 2010 at 10:13 am

48 Kelly May 12, 2010 at 10:15 am

I love the vanilla Almond breeze – and would love to try Silks version! I use mine in my protien shake every morning! I like that I can leave my almond milk in the fridge hear at work and Nobody touches it – LOL-they think its too healthy! If they only knew what they were missing!

49 Colleen May 12, 2010 at 10:16 am

I’ve really wanted to try the new Silk Almond! I use almond milk in my oatmeal as well as in flax oat bran muffins that I make, I’m not sure if it gives them any flavor, but definitely helps keep them moist!

50 Brynn May 12, 2010 at 10:18 am

I like the unsweetened almond milk which I can only find in the tiny quart size so I usually buy ten at a time I go through it so fast! I use it in my oatmeal, drink it with a piece of chocolate, put it in my coffee…I LOVE almond milk!

51 Alexandra Chappell May 12, 2010 at 10:19 am

I have never tried Almond milk before, and would love to see what it taste likes! I imagine I could use it in some baked oatmeal (YUM), a Green Monster Smoothie, or as a milk substitute with cereal

52 Rebecca May 12, 2010 at 10:20 am

I love to make stuffed french toast with almond milk: take two slices of multigrain bread, spread almond/peanut butter between the two slices, dunk in mixture of beaten egg and almond milk, toast in pan with olive oil, top with fruit, and enjoy!!!

53 MaryZ May 12, 2010 at 10:21 am

I use the vanilla almond milk over cold cereal and in my protien shakes. It does give the shake a different taste, but I like it.

54 Beth May 12, 2010 at 10:21 am

I like almond milk straight (sorry!) but it’s also great in coffee and smoothies!

55 Virginia May 12, 2010 at 10:22 am

I love almond milk in iced coffee! It is my favorite!

On my cereal–and I am an unsweetened original fan. I’ve only ever tried Almond Breeze & the Pacific brand.

58 Jenny May 12, 2010 at 10:23 am

I love almond milk in cereal – it makes the cereal soggy but sweet in a way milk doesn’t!

59 Kate May 12, 2010 at 10:23 am

I actually only use almond milk so I use it in place of milk everywhere – in my bowl of cereal, recipes, smoothies! I use unsweetened almond breeze and just add a little sugar substitute!

60 Lisa May 12, 2010 at 10:24 am

Almond milk poured over fresh peaches with a little bit of sugar or brown sugar makes delicious peaches and “cream!”

61 Kate May 12, 2010 at 10:24 am

I like to use almond milk in my coffee! Like you I am not much of a milk drinker, so it takes me awhile to use it!

62 Lisa May 12, 2010 at 10:25 am

I like almond milk mixed with greek yogurt to make overnight oats. I also like it in smoothies. Yum πŸ™‚

63 LISAMPLS May 12, 2010 at 10:25 am

107 Megan May 12, 2010 at 10:56 am

I’m sorry to be that annoying commenter w/ a grammar objection (usually I can contain myself). “Shudder” is the shiver you make when you’re grossed out, and “shutters” are the wooden things next to your windows. I see this all the time on blogs, and for some reason I feel compelled to alert the blogger more than there/their/they’re confusion, misspellings, or even plural/posessive/contraction confusion. I’m a nerd.

THANK GOD it’s humpday!

108 Don May 12, 2010 at 10:56 am

I use it in baking, it’s rich and creamy and adds great flavor

109 Tami May 12, 2010 at 10:57 am

115 carla May 12, 2010 at 11:02 am

What perfect time for a giveaway…I use the almond milk in my iced lattes, and recently loaded up on pacific brands organic…problem is, I don’t like it! I almost always like organic versions of things better but not this time. Also I wonder what’s really the big difference in almond milk? I am a big UVAB fan but have been meaning to try this!

116 *Andrea* May 12, 2010 at 11:02 am

i love almond milk in my oats!

117 Amanda May 12, 2010 at 11:03 am

118 jackie May 12, 2010 at 11:03 am

i enjoy making oatmeal with anything from the Silk people. from my experience all their products have so far been very tasteful as a milk substitution. i would love to try the almond milk!

119 Rachel A May 12, 2010 at 11:06 am

I love almond milk. I drink it straight, use it with cereal, and put it in smoothies. It’s hard to cook with though because its usually either sweetened or flavored or both.

120 Shannon May 12, 2010 at 11:06 am

I put my milk (whether it’s cow’s or almond) in everything: oatmeal, cereal, soaking my oats for some morning muesli, smoothies, or even just a glass after a workout or with dinner. I need my calcium, vitamin D, and protein! πŸ™‚ I also love putting it in my morning coffee instead of creamer.

121 krystlejohn04 May 12, 2010 at 11:09 am

I like putting it in my scrambled eggs!

122 Cait May 12, 2010 at 11:09 am

well I have been dying to try almond milk for some time now, but it is kind of expensive for me to buy an entire half gallon when I am not sure that I will like it. I am really curious to know how it will taste in my smoothies, and alongside my morning oats.

123 Erica May 12, 2010 at 11:09 am

Glad you fit in a nice run and fabulous looking breakfast!I recently tried the silk almond milk and really enjoy it! It has been cheaper at my Publix than almond breeze, so I have been purchasing it most weeks (unless blue diamond is on sale). I like it in my protein shakes and in my coffee (I used to dislike almond milk in coffee, but now I’m a big fan)

124 Emily H May 12, 2010 at 11:11 am

Well, I’m lactose intolerant, so I use almond milk for almost everything. In oats, smoothies, and the chocolate variety for a post-run recovery drink.

125 Jess May 12, 2010 at 11:14 am

Since I’m lactose intolerant (of milk, mostlyβ€”cheese in small doses and yogurt are OK!), I use almond milk in almost everything! But I especially like making oatmeal with it.

126 Risa May 12, 2010 at 11:16 am

I combine strawberries, blueberries, steel cut outs and then pour the almond milk over the top. πŸ™‚ A great warm breakfast.

127 thewhatkateateblog May 12, 2010 at 11:17 am

Silk Vanilla Almond is my new go-to milk. I absolutely love it. Ive even been drinking it straight which is so unlike me since Im not a big milk drinker unless its flavored πŸ™‚

128 Elizabeth May 12, 2010 at 11:19 am

I’m totally with you on not being able to drink almond milk on its own. Tried that earlier this week on a whim, yowza. πŸ™‚ I do love it in protein shakes and smoothies, however!

129 Tracy May 12, 2010 at 11:19 am

You isn’t an idea you’d be interested in, but I love it in my oatmeal!

130 Annie May 12, 2010 at 11:26 am

I’ve actually never had almond milk, but I’m intrigued! I’d use it in cereal and oats.

131 postcollegecook May 12, 2010 at 11:29 am

I like it in oatmeal – it sweetens it enough that you don’t have to add honey or sugar.

I love to use almond milk in waffle and pancake mixes…it gives them a “malt” like flavor. Yum!!!

163 pursuitofhealthfulness May 12, 2010 at 12:10 pm

I generally alternate between almond milk and soy milk… both are great with anything that would call for milk. Coming into the summer months, however, I am obsessed with smoothies! PB-banana-almond milk smoothies are the best!

164 joy May 12, 2010 at 12:17 pm

i love it warmed and at night instead of hot cocoa

165 Jill May 12, 2010 at 12:24 pm

Probably like everyone else, I put almond milk in my morning smoothies. A banana, other miscellaneous fruit (strawberries, blueberries, mango, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, whatever strikes my fancy) a cup of almond milk and a scoop of hemp protein powder – sometimes chocolate, sometimes vanilla. Yum!

If I’m not making a smoothie out of it I drink it plain. Oh how I just love it right out of the carton!

I love it in my green monsters!

167 Heather May 12, 2010 at 12:31 pm

I just recently tried almond milk for the first time and love it! When my brother and I were little we were supposed to have a glass of milk each night with dinner but didn’t like the taste of plain milk. Mom added vanilla extract and a scant teaspoon of sugar to each of our glasses to make it more kid-friendly. The Vanilla Silk tastes just like that, only better. I’ve been using it in smoothies, overnight oats, and mixing with iced tea to make an iced tea latte as an afternoon snack.

240 Ella May 12, 2010 at 3:45 pm

Ohhh Pure Almond milk! How I love thee and keep you stocked in my fridge at all times! I enjoy you in my coffee every morning and pour you on top of a bowl of berries for a sweet treat. You are truly delicious and I hope to see a brand new carton (might I note, free carton) of you soon!

297 Molly @fuelherup May 13, 2010 at 12:04 am

I use almond milk in baking, over cereals, and in smoothies!

298 Danielle May 13, 2010 at 12:13 am

I cant have dairy so I use almond milk for everything.. Baking, with cereal, in smoothies.. yum! My favorite use would probably be for smoothies. It adds a great flavor and some creaminess.

299 Alexa May 13, 2010 at 12:31 am

I know its not that creative but I started using almond milk instead of fake nasty creamer at work in an attempt to put something better in my body. I also use it in smoothies and overnight oats.

300 hopefulrunner May 13, 2010 at 12:50 am

My favorite use for my almond milk is to put it in my coffee with a packet of stevia. It makes my morning complete. πŸ™‚

301 acountablelife May 13, 2010 at 1:18 am

We don’t use any dairy, so I use almond milk for almost all of my cooking as opposed to soy milk, and use it daily in smoothies and oatmeal and over cereal, but my favorite is almond milk pudding.

302 megan May 13, 2010 at 1:36 am

I absolutely LOVE Silk’s original almond milk, versus Almond Breeze. My favorite use for almond milk is in smoothies

303 sassychic4ever May 13, 2010 at 1:52 am

I like almond milk in my coffee in the morning, I have just started drinking almond milk in the last couple months due to reg milk products do not like me, but it has gotten much worse over the years! I am also allergic to Soy so this has been a great alternative!!

304 Laura May 13, 2010 at 2:24 am

I have no idea what I would love to use almond milk for…..I would sure love to try it though!

305 dani May 13, 2010 at 2:49 am

I love almond milk in oat bran. So creamy!

306 Kristen May 13, 2010 at 6:18 am

Cottage cheese mixed with cinnamon…top with chopped fresh fruit (Strawberries, peaches, blackberries and half a banana or whatever you have on hand) and either apricots or dates…pour some almond milk then top it off with granola (trader joe’s lowfat granola with almonds) and crushed whole roasted almonds and flaxseeds and enjoy. It’s so good once you get to the cottage cheese, the tastiest concoction! =) The reason why I pour the almond milk in first is because who likes soggy granola?

307 Christina May 13, 2010 at 6:35 am

I’ve never tried almond milk, only soy and rice. I’d like to see how they compare!

308 sirenjess May 13, 2010 at 7:06 am

I have to be honest I have never used almond milk, but I have heard that it’s really good. I would probably try it in a baking recipe or in my oatmeal.

309 Tara May 13, 2010 at 7:15 am

Almond milk in my oats!

310 Steph May 13, 2010 at 7:33 am

I just tried Silk and it’s pretty good – I got the original. I use it everywhere I use regular milk – oatmeal and protein shakes mostly though. I am not a fan of drinking milk either. Too thick.

311 Crystal May 13, 2010 at 7:47 am

I’ve never tried almond milk. I imagine it would be good in oatmeal.

312 eatavegan May 13, 2010 at 8:32 am

Oh my gosh, the second I tried Silk Pure Almond, I was hooked — no other brand of almond milk will do for this girl anymore! I even started following them on Twitter just so I could tell them how amazing their almond milk is every time I drink it. Try the vanilla — it tastes like a (natural) vanilla shake!
I have been buying a carton of this stuff a week ever since it came out, and I use it in everything. It’s the first almond milk I’ve tried that actually mixes in well with my coffee, and it is delicious on cereal! Two huge thumbs up! πŸ™‚

313 Katie May 13, 2010 at 9:46 am

I love mixing it into cooked oats! Creamy and delicious.

314 Nicole May 13, 2010 at 10:39 am

Hi Meghann. I’m not sure I’ve ever commented before, but I really enjoy your blog! I’m not sure what I would use almond milk for, but I suppose I could try it in a smoothie. Or in any other scenario you would ordinarily use milk.

315 Nicole May 13, 2010 at 10:41 am

Ha! I was too slow to win and just read your morning post. Oh well. I’m glad I finally commented. πŸ™‚

316 kerry May 13, 2010 at 10:42 am

I’ve never tried almond milk, but I imagine it’d be fantastic in oatmeal or cereal! I can’t wait to try it in my favorite kashi cereal…and wait for the cereal to absorb the milk and turn nice and soft with almond-ness.

317 Lauryn May 13, 2010 at 3:34 pm

Never had it but love almonds!
Thanks for the giveaway!

318 JoAnn August 18, 2010 at 3:51 pm

This stuff is wonderful!!! Had a sample at Publix last winter and fell in love! I tell everyone how great it is. One thing I REALLY like is that it stays fresh for such a long time, doesn’t go bad like regular milk. Plus no Cholesterol!!

319 Suzette Reed October 13, 2010 at 5:46 pm

I love it mixed in my protein drink with a raw egg!

320 Lucy November 23, 2010 at 12:04 pm

It’s very good in rice pudding.

321 Joanne December 1, 2010 at 1:49 pm

I love to give the kids at my child care almond chocolate milk for snack.
They love it!

I went to the store to get pudding to make a chocolate pudding pie. I remembered that I had almond silk and am going to make the pie with that to see how it turns out. I made a mistake and accidentally bought one instant pudding and one cook & serve. I’m not 100% sure how I’m going to do this yet but I will figure something out and post another comment when I’m done.

323 Carlos May 12, 2011 at 4:54 am

OK…. I read online that instant pudding doesn’t do well without the proteins found in real milk so I made the pudding with skim milk as directed. However, the cook and serve variety of pudding should be fine with half almond silk & half regular milk according to multiple online sources. I successfully prepared the cook & serve pudding this way. I put the cook and serve in the graham cracker pie shell and allowed it to set up in the refrigerator. Then, I spread the instant pudding on top of the cook & serve, allowed the pie to chill in the fridge,’ and last I topped it with whipped cream and Hersey’s milk chocolate shavings. It was delicious. It may bot be as healthy as it could have been if the pudding would have set up with just almond Silk but it’s a good way of lowering calories by substituting some of the milk for Silk. I apologize to all the vegans. If it makes you feel a little better I totally made a fool of myself during this whole process. I opened both packages of pudding and completely forgot which was instant. Luckily when I poured a little milk into a cup and sprinkled a bit of pudding powder from one of the bags into it, it to congealed properly.. That told me that this package was instant pudding mix. If I would have used my brain however, I could have avoided that nonsense all together. πŸ™‚ Nevertheless, I managed to make a great dessert. I read that you may get instant pudding to set up properly with almond Silk by reducing the amount of Silk by half the originally called for milk. I may try that next time.
