Jillian Michaels' Yoga Meltdown Review

by Meghann on May 6, 2010

The other week I was the lucky winner of Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown thanks to a giveaway Bobbi was hosting on her blog N Her Shoes.

The Yoga Meltdown DVD contains two 30 minute yoga workouts. In typical Jillian fashion each work out consists of 3 circuit sessions that are divided by a couple of sun salutations.

IMG_6711.JPG

This is NOT your typical yoga DVD. Jillian is tough! Throughout the work out she really focuses on holding ‘power poses’ for 15 – 30 seconds at a time and putting her own twist on common poses. She also loves a good chaturanga push up! There was a whole series of push ups thrown in that had me dropping to my knees.

Do I believe this DVD can help you lose up to 5 pounds in a week? No way! I didn’t even break a sweat!

I would say this DVD would make a great supplement to any work out, but on its own it is just ok. Nothing was too challenging (besides the push ups) and the 30 segments were a bit too short for my taste.

I think for all my yoga needs I will be sticking to my hot yoga classes and let Jillian stick to what she’s good at – the 30 day shred. ;)

I completed level 1 of the Yoga Meltdown DVD after work, but before then I had some mixed nuts as my snack.

Do you ever have those weeks where you swore you purchased the whole grocery store only to realize you bought practically nothing? Yep, that’s me this week.

I bought a full cart of groceries on Monday and somehow my fridge is now empty. It’s just me – where did all the food go?!?!

With nothing to eat in the fridge I headed to the freezer for dinner and discovered some salmon burgers I had purchased from Costco forever ago. I knew the salmon would make the perfect salad topper for what vegetables I did have in the fridge.

IMG_6713.JPG

The veggies underneath the salmon burger included arugula, radishes, onion, broccoli, mushrooms and tomato. All the veggies were seasoned with some oregano and sauteed on the stove top for five minutes.

An apricot dressing and sprinkle of un-sweetened granola & goat cheese finished the dish.

I prefer hot salads to cold salads. I also prefer hot sandwiches to cold sandwiches. I think I just like hot meals in general. :)

For dessert I had the last 1/3 of my chocolate bar and a coffee flavored salt water taffy.

How cute are my parents?

(obviously I get my flair for crazy typos from my Dad ;) )

Heading to bed now!

Is tomorrow really Friday?!?! Woo hoo!!

I really want to try her DVD still, but I don’t quite see Jillian as a yoga teacher. Haha.

Awwwww that is SOOO cute with your parents!! I love seeing things like that :)

And for having nothing in your fridge I’d say you did a pretty awesome job with dinner!

I am the same way! I swear I bought $60 worth of groceries on Monday and had to dig out frozen soup from the freezer for dinner last night. It was delicious though. :)
I keep hoping you’ll tell us someone brought back your garmin. I like to think good thoughts about people and ever since it went missing I just kept thinking that someone picked it up because they thought an expensive watch shouldn’t be outside and they would find the owner. :( I’m still holding out hope!

I’ve never tried a Jillian Michaels workout. I think I’ll stick to normal yoga.

Yea… something about yoga and Jillian Michaels in the same sentence doesn’t quite work. I think she needs yoga for herself though :-)

Huh…so strange that Jillian has a yoga dvd out. She doesn’t really seem “zen” enough for yoga…if that makes sense.

I think I’ll stick with yogadownload.com classes instead. Thanks for the review, Meghann!

I dig Jillian´s other workouts (the Shred, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, and No More Trouble Zones) but for some reason I just have a problem with Jillian teaching me yoga. I am all for a good hard yoga workout, but I feel like Jillian should be busting my balls and screaming at me, whereas I prefer yoga workouts to be slightly more Zen. : )

Your mother’s middle (maiden?) name, Laakso, caught my eye… is her family Finnish?

Yep, I’m a quarter finnish :)

It was a gift. I will blog about it next week probably. I started playing with it last night and realized I had already developed some opinions on it, so I want to do a review of sorts.

When I first read your title, I thought it said, “Jillian Michaels has a meltdown!” I was like, what the heck happened to her??? LOL!

Thanks for the review! I love Jillian and The Shred…so I’ve been curious about this. But I think she is better off sticking with intense cardio and strength training…she is a kick butt trainer!

Thanks for the review! I was looking into purchasing that DVD, but might hold off now and keep yoga Jillian-free.

Your parents are amazing!

But what’s even more amazing is that dinner you put together. No way could I ever come home hungry and put together a dinner like that. The thing is, I know you actually really enjoyed that meal – which I think is awesome. You are just such a healthy eater – it’s great!

I love doing yoga workouts and mainly do them at home. My new favorite yoga dvd is Planet Yoga: Leeann Carey’s Bend 2 Mend. It’s spot on for alignment. I thought your readers might want to check it out: http://planetyoga.hostedbyamazon.com/Planet-Introduction-Bend-2-Mend-Restorative-Yoga/dp/B0042HW032
