Mama Pea

by Meghann on April 28, 2010

Time is flying, but I’ll take that as a good thing. πŸ˜‰

Mid-morning I had a Simple Harvest Bar (freebie) as a snack.

Lunch was once again consumed at my desk, but at least this way I will get out of here at a decent time!

IMG_5767

I had a leftover black bean burger with spinach and bbq sauce on an onion roll.

I <3 onion rolls! Back in high school my Dad used to make my turkey sandwich on an onion roll as a special treat every once in a while in my packed lunches. I know most people are not a fan of onions,Β  but I just love the extra depth of flavor they give to my sandwiches.

On the side I had left over roasted veggies from Sunday.

The last of my chocolates from Victoria & Albert’s.

Congrats Mama Pea!

I wanted to give a big CONGRATS to Mama Pea for landing her well deserved book deal. πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to purchase and read from cover to cover her future cookbook!

I was actually digging through my inbox the other day and discovered this e-mail that Mama Pea had sent me way before she became Mama Pea.

Hi Meghann!

My name is [Future Mama Pea] and I am a new follower on your blog.Β  I’ll start posting comments there for you, but I did want you to know how inspiring you are to me!Β  I am kind of new to all the food blogs, but I have about twenty bookmarked, and yours is my favorite!Β  I love your recipes and your attitude towards food and fitness and life!Β  Congratulations on your half marathon!Β  I run my first half marathon on January 11th, so you can bet I was following your progress with a lot of interest.

I’m toying with the idea of starting my own food blog, but I’m kind of on the fence due to time constraints.Β  Nonetheless, I still love your blog and wanted to tell you hi.Β  I’m sure I’ll be hitting you up for half marathon tips as my date approaches!

Happy Monday and Happy Holidays!
[Future Mama Pea]

This e-mail was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. πŸ™‚

The e-mail was followed by several more where I assisted Mama Pea in landing an advertiser and marketing her first blog. I like to think there would be no Mama Pea without me. I Kid, I Kid, I Kid! lol πŸ˜‰

Mama Pea has more talented in her little pinky than I have in my whole body. The teacher has now become the student as Mama Pea continues to amaze me on her blog each and every day. She has become hands down one of my favorite bloggers!

Congrats Mama Pea! You are truly one of a kind and I feel honored to have the pleasure of having you as one of my awesome bloggie friends! πŸ™‚

My Dad always had roast beef sandwiches on onion rolls, that brings back memories. I haven’t had one in years though!
Congrats to Mama Pea!

Yay for Mamma Pea!! I only discovered her blog a few days ago, but I’ve already done a recipe from it πŸ™‚ congrats to her!

8 eatingbirdfood April 28, 2010 at 2:10 pm

I am an onion roll lover too. Back in the day, my mom would make turkey melts with onions and mushrooms on onions rolls. So yummy!

Mama’s Pea getting a book deal is awesome – she totally deserves it.

9 janetha April 28, 2010 at 2:14 pm

You are pretty awesome yourself Meghann! You inspire me to work on my running. Who knows maybe I’ll be an ultra-marathoner one day too?

11 Evan Thomas April 28, 2010 at 2:29 pm

That letter is too cute! It’s weird to think that all food bloggers were new and looking up to others at some point, as amazing as they are now

12 Marissa April 28, 2010 at 2:34 pm

I am so excited for her book too!!

13 Morgan @ Life After Bagels April 28, 2010 at 2:34 pm

14 brandi April 28, 2010 at 2:35 pm

People actually market their blogs besides just blogging? I had no clue.

15 clairedille April 28, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Love that letter from Future Mama Pea…I feel like such a newbie compared to all you and its so refreshing to see that everyone starts somewhere!

Mama pea has the best wit in the blog world PERIOD!

20 Erin April 28, 2010 at 3:24 pm

How cool that you were one of the people she reached out to before she started blogging. Friendships form the best ways! πŸ˜€

21 r April 28, 2010 at 3:34 pm

Wow, so you can say “I knew her when…”

This reminds me, you never answered my question during your Ask Me Anything. Are you jealous of the your other blogger “colleagues” who keep getting book deals left and right? And, if jealous, how do you best handle those feelings, since these girls are your friends? What are your future goals for your blog- do you hope to get a book deal?

22 Meghann April 28, 2010 at 6:13 pm

I say the more power to them! I’ve tried to sit down and write a book proposal a couple of times, but I couldn’t think of what to write of! Maybe one day when I have some free time i’ll [iece something together, but for right now I’m happy blogging just the way I am πŸ™‚

23 Sarah April 28, 2010 at 3:37 pm

I love me some Mama Pea! So happy for her and the Peas!

24 Maris April 28, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Hi Meghan! So glad you liked the Quaker bars!!

I love the pictures of lunch at your desk – I just had the exact same experience! Haha. Oddly, I don’t mind it. It gives me time to tinker on the computer if I need to do any non-work stuff.

25 missyrayn April 28, 2010 at 3:55 pm

Onion rolls were always a treat to me too.

And that email is so sweet. I love hearing how other bloggers interact.

26 Katherine: What About Summer? April 28, 2010 at 4:16 pm

Have you ever felt like you have an unhealthy fixation on food?
Thanks,
Katherine (also, please send me an email if you’re willing to help me out; sorry to badger you, I understand if your answer is no!)

27 Gina G April 28, 2010 at 4:31 pm

That’s so awesome for Mama Pea! I just recently found her blog and LOVE it. Such a wonderful sense of humor. And very cool that you’ve been there from the beginnning. πŸ˜‰

32 amanda April 28, 2010 at 5:30 pm

OMG that burger looks delicious! I love eating roasted veggies too. Very delicious and so much healthier than going out to eat at a local fast food joint.

33 amanda April 28, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Aww your post to Mama Pea is so nice. It’s amazing. Everyone has a beginning, right? πŸ™‚ Enjoy your trip to San Fran!

37 D April 28, 2010 at 8:07 pm

i honestly think you have the best attitude of any blogger! you never seem defensive or annoyed or catty, and i love reading your blog because you always have a great tone and you seem to really enjoy it. also i think this has been mentioned before, but i think its awesome that you blog so thoroughly and with great topics, even when it’s clear that you have a crazy work schedule. keep it up!

38 jentrinque April 28, 2010 at 8:12 pm

That is so awesome! And you’ll be happy to know that I started reading Mama Pea’s blog because you referred to it for recipes! I have been reading your blog for…I don’t know, way over a year now, but I just started reading hers a month or two a go and I love it!

Okay Meghann, when are you going to write a book??? It seems to be the blog world thing to do these days and you definitely have a talent all your own!

39 Kath April 28, 2010 at 8:22 pm

I could see how some people might find onions good in a roll…

40 r April 29, 2010 at 9:29 am

Thanks for replying about the book question! I think your readers (or, just me) would love to read your journey to health “before the blog” since you started blogging once you were already successful with weight loss and fitness- and have only gotten more so. You are an inspiration!

41 Kelly April 29, 2010 at 10:19 am

I actually found YOU through Mama Pea. She has been a good friend since we found each other through a completely different website when we were both pregnant, our kids are a week apart. Your post to her was so sweet Meghann, and you’re right, she’s well deserving of everything she’s doing. She’s smart, funny, and she works so hard and gives 110% to everything she puts her mind to. She’s uber-fabulous! Thanks for giving her props on your blog! I think you’re pretty fun too :), have a great time in San Fran. When are you going to marry that hunka hunka Derek anyway?
