I Drive, Derek Cooks

by Meghann on April 28, 2010

Man, driving to Tampa in the middle of the afternoon in the middle of the week is a breeze. With no traffic and no stress that drive is effortless. Why does this drive usually suck? Oh yea, because I usually take it during rush hour traffic on Fridays. *mental note* only drive to Tampa in the middle of the week – got it!

The drive may have also seemed better since I split it up with a stop at Whole Foods. I ordered the ‘Clearly Carrot’ juice which was made of carrots, apple, celery, beets, and kale.

This is by far my favorite juice combo of all time. It’s has the perfect juice blend of sweet and earthy. 😉

Right now you may be asking yourself “Meghann, why are you in Tampa when you are flying to san Francisco early tomorrow morning?” Well, that’s a good question! Turns out I lost the competition on whose airport would have the cheapest flight to San Fran.

Can you believe the flight from Tampa to San Fran was about $65 cheaper than the Orlando flight to Tampa? My Orlando airport let me down!

Derek and I tend to argue who has a better airport – Tampa or Orlando. I always vote for Orlando because it’s very easy to navigate and each terminal has a great selection of food to choose from. Derek always picks Tampa because it’s smaller and less crowded.  I guess we are just both partial to our hometown airports?

Well, since I made the drive to Tampa this afternoon at least Derek was kind enough to make dinner.

His parents joined us for a homemade feast of salmon, asparagus, and rice.

Derek made the Salmon that was topped with a mix of yogurt & fresh herbs.

Derek’s parents brought the wine.

and I brought dessert.

Despite they’re not so pretty appearance, the peanut butter blondies were a hit!

In fact, both Derek’s parents went back for seconds!

Now Maddie and I are ‘supervising’ as Derek finishes with his last minute packing. We have an early wake up call in the morning and I’m hoping he will have his bed clean soon so i can get some sleep. 🙂

Good night!

Not sure if I’d rather drive or cook 🙂 Although if driving gets me a ‘normous juice than perhaps drive!

Derek is quite the little chef – his salmon looks tasty!

Our Whole Foods doesn’t have a juice bar – it’s sad. :/

Herbed yogurt Salmon is one of my favorite ways to eat it.

Enjoy your night!

I used to fly out of Tampa all the time (when working in Tampa and had an apartment in Lakeland).

At that time – I preferred Tampa to Orlando because of the Parking.
Have a safe trip
Luv U

Tampa airport is by far the BEST airport I have ever been to, and that’s not just because I’m a Tampa girl. 🙂
Have fun!

My man cooked for me tonight too! What a nice looking dinner, I’ll have to try out that yogurt sauce. Have a safe flight tomorrow!

The salmon dish looks lovely!! Does Derek have a recipe!?

12 Courtney (Pancakes & Postcards) April 29, 2010 at 4:24 am

That´s like me with San Francisco (my home is Sacramento). The airport is always a bit cheaper, which means driving to the city and flying out if I am going somewhere outside of California. The problem is, the little money I save easily is spent on gas to drive to SF and whatever food or whatnot that I inevitably buy there to entertain myself with. So I guess it all evens out… safe flight!!

I am definitely partial to smaller airports, but I’ll drive to a larger one if it’s a better deal! Derek looks like he knows what he’s doing in the kitchen 🙂

Have a fun trip to San Francisco!
I’m flying into FL this July and Orlando won the price wars by a leaps and bounds. But, Tampa’s airport is much more convenient to where my parents live and comes with WAY less traffic than Orlando’s airport. In the end, my cheapskate heart overruled and we’re flying into Orlando.

Have a fun and safe trip!

Looks great–as long as the blondies taste great, that’s all that matters.

17 Sarah April 29, 2010 at 8:10 am

20 Megan April 29, 2010 at 9:27 am

I am partial to the Tampa airport too. Somehow they also manage to get luggage out so fast! Have a great time in San Francisco!

21 clairedille April 29, 2010 at 9:46 am

Can’t wait to hear about San Fran! I hope you have great travels lady!

22 lowandbhold April 29, 2010 at 10:17 am

$65 is definitely worth the drive. Especially for a delicious dinner 🙂

23 Jessie (Vegan-minded) April 29, 2010 at 10:33 am

That carrot juice looks so refreshing! Have a great trip. 🙂

24 Kellie April 29, 2010 at 10:53 am

Enjoy San Francisco. They have such great restaurants and fun food.

25 Evan Thomas April 29, 2010 at 10:59 am

That juice sounds so delicious and refreshing!

26 Lindsay April 29, 2010 at 11:16 am

The juice (and dinner, too) looks great! I know the feeling of your hometown airport losing. Mine’s kinda out in the middle of nowhere, and it loses to a big one all the time.

27 Heather @ Side of Sneakers April 29, 2010 at 11:16 am

Yum, what a great dinner!! I LOVE the airport near me- not only because it’s like 10 minutes away, but it’s SO easy- you literally just walk in the door and you’re good to go. Unfortunately, they’re almost always $100 more for their flights, so I rarely get to use it.

28 anotherannabanana April 29, 2010 at 12:41 pm

I’m not usually a salmon fan, but that looks DELICIOUS!

Hope your travels are going well — can’t wait to live vicariously through you in San Fran!

That salmon is making my mouth water. Does Derek want to share the recipe? 😉
