Puppy Birthday Gifts

by Meghann on April 22, 2010

Guess who has a birthday coming up soon??

Maddie!

Maddie will be celebrating her FIRST birthday this Saturday!

Can you believe she’s one already?!?! I swear it was just yesterday that I brought sweet little 14 week old Maddie home from the breeder.

Now she’s all grown up! Transitioning to adult dog food and everything.

Today Maddie received her first birthday present in the mail from Ms. VeggieGirl.

IMG_5091

An adorable bandana that she can’t wait to wear to her birthday festivities this weekend and a happy birthday dog bone.

IMG_5099

I should have got a photo of her trying to dive into the bone while it was still wrapped in plastic. I now know what it’s like to be a parent and have to tell your kid to wait until their birthday to eat their cake or open the present. It just feels wrong.

Thanks again Liz for the great gifts! Maddie really does love them both!

My lunch today was not as pretty as Maddie’s dog bone, but it was actually pretty tasty.

IMG_5073

I had NO idea what I wanted to eat.  I knew I wanted nut butter and somehow the idea of smearing it on a sweet potato came into my head.

IMG_5075

I put a sweet potato in the microwave for 5 minutes then added almond butter, but it still looked a little naked. A dollop of plain greek yogurt was jsut what it needed to top the whole combo off.

IMG_5080

Strange? Sure. Delicious? Absolutely. 🙂

No time to cook the green beans, so I just ate them raw. I almost prefer them that way.

IMG_5082

Last, but not least, a piece of pumpkin nut bread.

IMG_5085

Earlier I snacked on some Peanut Butter Pretzels.

I have a special guest coming for dinner tonight! I love having special guests over for dinner! 😉

I love the idea of greek yogurt, nut butter and sweet potato – that’s so unusual! I definetly need to try that 🙂
Hooray for Maddie’s birthday 🙂 Is she going to have a party!?

2 Jenny April 22, 2010 at 2:45 pm

Look at your tiny puppy!! Soo precious:) That sweet potato looks like a delish lunch!

3 Emily Josephine April 22, 2010 at 2:54 pm

Is that pumpkin nut bread homemade? It looks delicious!
Happy Earth Day!

4 Meghann April 23, 2010 at 9:23 am

It’s not homemade. It’s from a local bakery in Titusville called Sunrise Bakery.

5 Emily April 22, 2010 at 2:54 pm

Maddie is so precious!

My precious boy turned 6 this year! He’s getting so old!!

6 Sarah April 22, 2010 at 2:57 pm

Happy Birthday, Maddie!

My Charlie Parker is 3 going on 4 and still acts like a little pup. Doggies make life better!

7 Joyce April 22, 2010 at 2:58 pm

Awww, Happy Birthay Maddie! Its birthday party time here to, but for humans, but who doesn’t love a party!
BTW, I just met Derek’s twin, he works in a bike shop in Michigan. Instantly I felt like I knew him, but it didn’t come to me til later why I felt I knew him. Sweet guy, so sweet that I bought a bike from him!
Interested in your tri-training plan too!

8 Sana April 22, 2010 at 3:03 pm

11 Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday April 22, 2010 at 3:16 pm

My puppy just turned one a couple of weeks ago. I don’t dress her up though, or give her a special treat. You’re a nicer “mom” than I am!

Awww pups first birthday!!

Question…what kind of nut butter do you use?

16 Meghann April 23, 2010 at 9:24 am

Today I used plain ole Almond Butter, I think it was Blue Diamond brand because that was what was on sale at the time and I had a store coupon. 🙂

17 PhillyGirlRuns April 22, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Aww happy birthday Maddie! She ALMOST shares a birthday with my pup Sophie, who turns one on Sunday 🙂

18 Lauren @ Eater not a runner April 22, 2010 at 3:27 pm

She is too cute 🙂

19 Fallon April 22, 2010 at 3:28 pm

MMM I did that with my baked sweet potatoes last week. I wanted dessert but I wanted something warm and something with almond butter. Slabbed some on a sweet potato and I’ve been hooked ever since!

Maddie is so adorable! She definitely is a princess 😉

20 Julia April 22, 2010 at 3:30 pm

I think the only thing that’s cuter than adult Maddie is baby Maddie!

21 Sarah April 22, 2010 at 3:33 pm

Maddie should totally be a dog model! I swear she’s smiling in those pics. Happy Doggie Day!!

22 Caitlin in MD April 22, 2010 at 3:35 pm

She is so adorable!!! We used to get a cake and the whole would celebrate our dogs birthday. I’ve got pictures of him, sitting with us at the table, wearing a birthday hat. LOL!

Happy Birthday to Maddie…sooo cute. I recently became a new puppy mom. We got Rocco from a rescue. We only knew that his mom was a chihuahua, not what his dad was. His size is chihuahua but his face looks nothing like one, he looks like Maddie! I saw the picture and got a huge smile on my face thinking of my Rocco and can’t wait to go home and be greeted with puppy kisses.

37 Matt April 22, 2010 at 5:46 pm

Happy bday Maddie!

38 Christina April 22, 2010 at 5:47 pm

Aww Happy (early) Birthday to Maddie!

39 lizz (leadingthegoodlife) April 22, 2010 at 5:58 pm

At first glance I thought that was whipped cream on your sweet potato!!! Greek yogurt makes much more sense. 🙂

40 lizz (leadingthegoodlife) April 22, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Oh, and Happy Birthday, Maddie!!

41 Lisa (bakebikeblog) April 22, 2010 at 6:14 pm

ooooh she is too precious 🙂 Happy birthday puppy!!!

42 Kellie@obsessivelyhealthy April 22, 2010 at 6:51 pm

She looks so cute in the 2nd photo!

43 Katherine: What About Summer? April 22, 2010 at 7:13 pm

I’ve never thought of doing potato and nut combos! The texture would be really good together though. I bet you could whip up a delicious nut/potato/yogurt soup!

Maddie is so darn cute! I love the first picture of her where it looks like she’s smiling. That cookie looks good! Happy Bday Maddie!

49 Ami April 23, 2010 at 9:59 am

Have you ever had your zinc levels tested? I watch this British TV show called You Are What You Eat, and the lady on it goes around fixing peoples diets/helping them lose weight. She always says that craving unusual or strange flavor combos is a sign of zinc deficiency.
