Out of Retirement

by Meghann on April 15, 2010

This afternoon I had the pleasure of pulling my bike Blue out of retirement.

The poor thing was collecting dust! Can you believe I haven’t taken Blue out for a ride since last July!?!

IMG_0754.JPG

Yep, it has been a while. So long in fact that I forgot how to even ride my bike! Halfway through the ride we went up a hill and I couldn’t remember how to switch gears! I couldn’t help, but laugh as my chain started cranking as I figured it out. πŸ™‚ Oh, well.

Don’t worry I may have forgotten how to switch gears, but I didn’t forget how to wear my helmet.

I met my sister after work and we did an easy 10 mile run at a local trail.

IMG_0755.JPG

The whole ride took us about an hour and we spent the whole time chit chatting away. It was nothing intense, just for fun. πŸ™‚

It was pretty late when I got home, so dinner was quick and easy from the fridge.

I bulked up the left over Coconut Red Lentil Soup with a base of kale.

An apple that I heated up in the mircowave with cinnamon and granola appeased my sweet tooth for the evening.

It’s almost the weekend!!!!

Any big plans?

I pulled out my bike today, too! Although it had been collecting dust a bit longer… I forgot how much fun it could be!

I made coconut red lentil soup this week too! Yum.
I was hoping to ride my bike tomorrow but it’s supposed to rain all day. I don’t mind running in the rain, but biking in the rain feels dangerous (even with my obligatory helmet.)

I want a bike. I would have no idea how to change gears, either, but I’d figure it out!

You, Caitlin and Co have really inspired me to buy a road bike – your cycling sessions look so much fun!

I’m leaving for Ireland on Saturday and will be spending the week with my 2 best friends! I can’t wait to go running in Dublin and do some exploring!

My bike is covered in cobwebs and dust, sitting in a stable πŸ˜› it needs dusting off too!
Sounds like you had a good time anyways πŸ™‚

My bike totally needs a tune up. And it needs the cobwebs dusted off!

21 Britt @ Runnerbelle April 16, 2010 at 8:24 am

My bike was a wee bit dusty when I pulled it out of our garage too….although my excuse was snow. πŸ˜‰

I’m resting and fueling up this weekend, getting ready for the big race on Monday….. the Boston Marathon!

My bike is coming out of retirement when I pick it up at the bike shop today– so happy, like you!

Your post about helmets recently will be motivating me to buy my first one. Hopefully I can find something that fits and doesn’t make me look like a complete dweeb– you have given me promise that it is possible πŸ™‚

I bought an old Schwinn bike @ Goodwill for $9.95 and it is the best, most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden. Ugly as sin, but comfortable. It needs new tires, though, and I’ve had a hard time finding ones to fit.

That apple granola thing is one of my favorites and I love adding a bit of almond butter for frosting πŸ™‚

26 hundredtenpounds April 16, 2010 at 12:16 pm

We had plans to go on a long bike ride tomorrow but the weather doesn’t seem to be cooperating! πŸ™
