Popping my Ultra Cherry!

Eekkk….. It’s official – I’m popping my Ultra Cherry tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_3243.JPG

I’ve got the race number to prove it and everything. Now all I need to do is run it. ๐Ÿ™‚

The drive to Brooksville was a gorgeous one this afternoon. I turned up my favorite country station and just enjoyed the smooth ride through the back roads. There is something so relaxing about country roads as opposed to boring interstates.

One the drive I snacked on a new-to-me Nature Valley Oats ‘n Dark Chocolate Bar.

IMG_3235.JPG

Mmm.. this bar was great. It tasted just like a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie. ๐Ÿ™‚

I met Kelly and Caitlin at the motel and we headed to the race site to pick up our packets.

IMG_3249.JPG

IMG_3237.JPG

The race is capped at 250 participants and sold out a couple of weeks ago. This race is small potatoes compared to the Chicago Marathon I’ll be running in October that is capped at 45,000 runners and sold out last week.

IMG_3240.JPG

IMG_3241.JPG

IMG_3242.JPG

The trail doesn’t look quite as scary as I remember it ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_3250.JPG

IMG_3251.JPG

We made the fatal mistake last year of relying on the local cuisine for our pre-race meal. BBQ from the local smokehouse does not a great pre-race meal make. ๐Ÿ™

Thankfully we wised up in the last year and all pitched in this year for a nice picnic dinner instead.

IMG_3254.JPG

IMG_3257.JPG

  • I brought a black bean salad and a massaged kale salad
  • Caitlin brought fruit salad
  • Kelly brought pasta salad
  • Ashley brought cookies!

IMG_3261.JPG

IMG_3260.JPG

I loaded my plate up with a little bit of everything.

IMG_3258.JPG

Plus, more chips and fruit. ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_3265.JPG

BIG THANKS to Ashley for giving each os us our own giant chocolate chip cookie from Whole Foods!

IMG_3268.JPG

Don’t worry – I ate it all! ๐Ÿ™‚

I love traveling for races, especially with such great girlfriends! I have been in need of some serious girl time and these girls know how to deliver. I can’t wait to run with them tomorrow.

The alarm is set and the garmins are all charge. The race is on! Let the poppin’ begin. ๐Ÿ™‚

1 Jessica @ Dairy Free Bety April 2, 2010 at 9:21 pm

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s an awesome shirt!!

2 Allie (Live Laugh Eat) April 2, 2010 at 9:24 pm

I just commented on Caitlin’s blog that I remember that disastrous dinner last year…..which means I’ve seen everything you’ve eaten for over a year now!

Have a great race tomorrow.

I have a coupon for that oats and choc bar in my wallet–I wanna try it!

3 Evan Thomas April 2, 2010 at 9:24 pm

You gals are really in the rough! I feel funny asking if you guys would have tracking chips lol

4 Evan Thomas April 2, 2010 at 9:34 pm

Oh, and the phrase “popping my cherry” always makes my spine shiver. Can’t imagine why

5 Debbie~ April 3, 2010 at 10:38 am

Agreed…I absolutely hate that phrase….yuck!

6 Ashley April 2, 2010 at 9:24 pm

14 Tracy April 2, 2010 at 9:50 pm

Good luck girls!!!

I was going to comment on the shirt misspellings too! Sorry- I am a teacher and can’t help it!! “I” Should be capitalized (they did it on the other I…weird!) and wouldn’t has the apostrophe in the wring spot!
It’s still cute though!

15 Rachel April 2, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Good luck tomorrow! You are going to do great.
I have not seen that flavor of Nature Valley bar yet and I LOVE their other bars. I need to find one to try asap!

16 Mara @ What's For Dinner? April 2, 2010 at 10:01 pm

19 Ashley April 2, 2010 at 10:21 pm

Cute shirt, but lol, I am a 2nd grade teacher and the errors are getting to me LOL! The lowercase i, and the apostrophe in the wrong place:) I’ve been working on contractions this year:)

Good luck on your race tomorrow!

20 Jenny April 2, 2010 at 10:51 pm

That nature valley bar looks amazing! Have fun tomorrow:)

21 kyko April 2, 2010 at 10:51 pm

HOW exciting!!!! I’m so proud of you and I don’t even know you!
I can’t wait for the full recap. Be careful on the trail terrain! I’m sure you know that, but every time I get extra tired on a trail run I tend to get sloppy with my footing and have had a lot of “almost” injuries!

GOOD LUCK!

22 Ariffa April 2, 2010 at 10:52 pm

25 Meghann April 3, 2010 at 5:06 am

An ultra marathon is anything longer than the traditional 26.2 marathon

26 caronae April 2, 2010 at 10:59 pm

Good luck! So excited for ya; it’s gonna be killer, but also AWESOME! Remember the airplane tip!

51 hundredtenpounds April 3, 2010 at 1:56 pm

That’s a great shirt! I don’t know why, but people feel the need to try and talk me out of running. Does that happen to everyone??

52 Catherine April 3, 2010 at 3:05 pm

Ooh I’ve never seen those Nature Valleys before! Good luck tomorrow girlie, you can totally do it!!!

53 Crystal April 3, 2010 at 3:21 pm

Good luck in your race! Love the tshirt. ๐Ÿ™‚

54 Graze With Me April 3, 2010 at 3:32 pm

That’s such a great shirt but it drives me crazy when companies mess up words like that. The front says “would’nt” instead of “wouldn’t” !!!! I’m such a grammar nazi….

Looks like a great pre-race meal.

55 Gina April 3, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Wow! That is so awesome! Good luck tomorrow! You guys are so inspiring!

56 eaternotarunner April 3, 2010 at 4:25 pm

58 Lisa (bakebikeblog) April 3, 2010 at 6:40 pm

GOOD LUCK GIRL! I just KNOW that you will do amazing!

59 Kelly April 3, 2010 at 7:02 pm

Popping My Ultra Cherry? Really? That has to be the sleaziest and most tacky title. I commend you for your ultra marathon but come on girl, have some class on your blog.

60 Danielle April 3, 2010 at 7:54 pm

I am looking for that tshirt on the liftyoursole.com and can’t seem to find it anywhere! Can you guide me in the right direction please??

61 Ashley April 3, 2010 at 10:11 pm

Awesome you’re doing the Chicago Marathon!

I might just have to make a big GO MEGHANN sign. Anyone who can brave that race is amazing! Well any race for that matter!

62 missyrayn April 3, 2010 at 10:18 pm

I love that shirt and will be purchasing one shortly.

63 Erin April 3, 2010 at 10:49 pm

Very cool — good luck and remember that having fun is the most important thing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

64 Sarah April 3, 2010 at 11:23 pm

I agree – disgusting title – I hope you don’t use such phrases in everyday conversation.

65 Sammie April 4, 2010 at 9:33 am

Meghann you know I think you are great and I love your blog, but that phrase is just gross. I am pretty sure you could have come up with a more classy title.
Congrats on finishing your 50K.
